Everything went perfectly at the fi rst round of the WSK Euro Series, notwithstanding
the 260 drivers and changing climate, a testimony to the optimum organisation. Watching the races I realised that my drivers were competitive and I am sure that there will be other protagonists in future appointments beyond those that were in the lime light at Muro Leccese. The fi rst race attracted a lot of interest and television coverage will increase from the appointment at Lonato. I will add that we are having to refuse a lot of inscription requests because the maximum number of drivers has already been reached.// Nel primo round della WSK Euro Series tutto è stato impeccabile, nonostante ben 260 piloti e il clima mutevole; questo testimonia un’ottima organizzazione.

Round II
TOP DEBUTArdigò wins, but it was little De Vries who impressed everyone // Vince Ar digò, ma è il piccolo De Vries a stupire tutti
In his Super KF debut Nyck De Vries (Zanardi/Parilla) impressed everyone at the
weekend of the first round of the WSK Series in Muro Lec-cese. Always up there with the leaders, the Dutchman was only slowed by a techni-cal hitch that forced him to start the pre-final in twelfth position, which he went on to finish in fourth. On the other hand Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex) won the final in aggressive and intelli-gent style. Following the start which saw Armand Convers (Kosmic/Vortex) take the lead, the Italian soon over-took the Frenchman and from then on nobody would challenge him for first place. Not even De Vries who, after starting the final on the outside line, was forced to climb back up through the field. And that he did, taking second place from Convers, who then took the place back a lap later. The pair caught the Italian, but never managed to pass him. In the final part of the race De Vries managed to pass Convers once more to take second place at the finish.
The Vortex powered karts were definitely most on form during the weekend, with all the flag bearers (Tony Kart and Kosmic) always at the front. CRG/Maxter and Birel/BMB had a few more problems setting up there karts, but in terms of abso-lute speed they were there. The penalties inflicted on [5] Sauro Cesetti (Birel) and [4] Arnaud Kozlinski (CRG) took their weight on the final clas-sifications. For Intrepid/TM the improvements made during the weekend were wasted in the pre-final when Brandon Maisano retired due to a technical problem.
However [3] Ben Hanley (Maranello/Maranello) made an incredible come back. At the finish line of the final he was just behind the three podium finishers [2] Ben Cooper (Kosmic/Vortex), [1] Gary Catt (Tony Kart/Vortex) and [6] Yannick De Brabander (Intrepid/TM). Two other debutants also did well with their respective teams, Dalè and Tiene.

Ardigò wins, but it was little De Vries who impressed everyone // Vince Ar digò, ma è il piccolo De Vries a stupire tutti
The reigning Champion lets everyone know he is the man to beat // Il ca mpione fa capire che è lui l’uomo da battere
OOn Friday afternoon Rick Dreezen (Tony Kart/Vortex) put his
nose ahead of everyone in qualifying, but the Belgian suffered under the pres-sure of the others in the final on Sunday, finishing fifth. However his team-mate Riccardo Piccoli (Tony Kart/Vortex) had a bad start to the weekend but then gained places to eventually finish fourth in the final. Jonathon Thonon (CRG/Maxter) was second in qualifying and won both his heats. The Belgian once more demonstrated that his CRG with it’s Maxter engine prepared by the magical hands of Patrick Savard was the fastest on the track and finished the pre-final in first place. But then it was time for the final: a fantastic Paolo De Conto (Energy/TM), KZ2, made the most of a less than perfect start by Thonon to take the lead of a very intense race and open a good gap ahead of Bas Lammers (Intrepid/TM), second and Thonon, third. The Dutchman with his Intrepid passed Thonon
and launched himself after the leading Energy. On the eighth lap Lammers passed De Conto and the Italian found himself between the two before allowing Thonon to pass and following him to the chequered flag, show-ing that he has incredible pace. So Lammers won, followed by Thonon and the spectacular De Conto who was racing in KZ2, but was capable of battling for victory with the KZ1s. [6] Jeremy Iglesias (Intrepid/TM) finished third in KZ1. [5] Anthony Abbasse (Sodi Kart/TM) was an excel-lent outsider, heralding the return of the French brand Sodi Kart to WSK with their Official Racing Team with a great performance: he won a heat and started the pre-final in second place, but then slipped down the field before retiring. In the final he was forced to attempt a come back and finished ninth with the con-solation prize of fastest lap. Wery good also [2] Manuel Renaudie (PCR/TM) On the KZ2 podiums were [1] Mar-cel Jeleniowski (Energy/TM),

[6] Jeremy Iglesias (Intrepid/TM) conclude terzo in KZ1.

ITALIAN DOMINATIONIgnazio D’Agosto (Tony Kart/Vortex) takes it all // Ignazio D’Agosto (Tony Kart/Vortex) vince tutto
In the cadet category Ignazio D’Agosto (Tony Kart/Vortex) was easily the
fastest: the Italian won all of his four qualifying heats and dominated the pre-final and the final demonstrat-ing that (after having won the last event of the 2009 WSK Championship...) he is the man to beat in this category. So they have the speed: now they need some consistency. On the podium after the final were Guilherme Silva (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Nicolaj Moller Madsen (Energy/TM), respectively second and third. Both were authors of less than impressive times in qualifying practice, but were capable of improving during the entire weekend. In good shape also [1] An-tonio Giovinazzi (Top Kart/Parilla) and [3] Sami Luka (DR/Parilla). The prize for the best improvement went to [5] Guillaume De Rid-der (Kosmic/Vortex), who moved up from his forty-seventh position on Friday to take fifth place in the final, just behind [6] Michelle Gatting (CRG/Maxter),
who occupied third place for a period of the race before being passed by Moller Madsen towards the end. Further great come backs were completed by [4] Jordon Lennox (Birel/BMB), Yu Kanamaru (Tony Kart/Vortex), Alex Riberas (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Max Klinkby-Silver (Tony Kart/Vortex) who, due to some retirements in the pre-final, were forced to start from the back of the grid in the final. Beyond Lennox, the other official BMB powered karts were always in the top positions for the entire weekend: however Karol Basz (RK/BMB) and Gerard Barrabeig (Birel/BMB) had an unsuccessful final due to penalties (Basz) and technical problems (Bar-rabeig). ITALIAN DOMINATIONIgnazio D’Agosto (Tony Kart/Vortex) takes it all // Ignazio D’Agosto (Tony Kart/Vortex) vince tutto

Max Verstappen (CRG/Maxter; CRG Racing Team)
VERSTAPPEN BEATS ALLThe son of the F1 driver dominated in his WSK debut // Il figlio dell’ex F1 domina al suo esordio nella WSK
Max Verstappen (CRG/Maxter), son of Jos Verstappen,
the Formula 1 driver of the ‘90’s, made a clean sweep of the pre-final and final. In his first race at an Inter-national level he showed great determination and excellent driving capabili-ties: he made no mistakes, even when he had to start from the outside line on the grid for the pre-final. His CRG/Maxter equipment helped him considerably. Possibly the super Intrepid team paid the price of Alex-ander Albon (Intrepid/TM) not starting on the pre-final and final. [2] Loris Spinelli (Intrepid/TM) did well in the heats and was consistently fast, but in the phases of the event that award the points (3rd and 5th – due to a three second penalty – notwithstanding his first position after the heats) he reaped less than he deserved. However a prize goes to Peter Hoevenaars (Intrepid/TM) for his consist-ent results. He finished third in the pre-final and second in the final, but he couldn’t
match Verstappen’s pace. Behind the top positions was Anthoine Hubert (Tony Kart/Vortex): a good per-formance, always near the front in every phase of the event, he finished the pre-final in sixth position and the final in third, but was always battling behind the Intrepids and Verstappen. Worthy of note the performances of [5] Robert Visoiu (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Damiano Fiora-vanti (Tony Kart/Vortex) who turned up the heat in the final. [6] Pierre Gasly (Sodi Kart/Parilla) was also in the top part of the field for the entire weekend, so much so that he finished fourth in the pre-final. He finished ninth in the final following a penalty. Also worthy of a mention was [4] Esteban Ocon (Exprit/Vortex): he didn’t have the support of an of-ficial team but was very fast
non-the-less; we should also mention [1] Nicolas Beer (FA Kart/Vortex) and [3] Luca Caspari (Energy/TM), who lost his way in the pre-final and final following the initial laps at the front: he had made a come back from seventy-forth position in qualifying.// VERSTAPPEN SU TUTTI Tra prefinale e finale a fare manbassa di risultati è Max Verstappen (CRG/Maxter), figlio di Jos Verstappen, pilota di Formula 1 negli Anni ’90.

THE WSK PADDOCKThose that have
had the chance to follow a round
of WSK don’t need a thousand words to understand. For those that have never had the opportunity to see the spectacle of the paddock during a WSK weekend, here is some information. Are you ready? Let’s start. There were 248 drivers repre-senting 40 nations, 25 kart constructors and 11 engine constructors (these were the main numbers regarding the first race of the 2010 Euro Series). Behind all this there were 86 teams, divided between official, semi-official and private teams; some arrived at the event with mega structures that were as imposing as those of the top level motor-sports: super equip-ped trucks with data acquisition systems, computers, tool trolleys, piani di riscontro and lots more. Everything was scrupulously clean and tidy in Formula 1 style. The technicians were in uniform and communicated with each other by radio: the organisation was of the highest level. If anyone was expec-ting to see a karting world with absolutely no affinity with the well known top motor racing categories, here are some answers... In some aspects the organisation and com-munication of its image could be judged to

be even better (this is also true of those with smaller structures that were very professional non the less). In some cases there were hospitality areas inside the tents where drivers and technicians could relax in the very few pauses during the race weekend. There were also some real hospita-lity areas just like those in Formula 1, in which there were kitchens that were capable of producing more than 100 meals a day.
prima gara dell’Euro Series 2010).
Tutto, comunque rigorosa-mente pulito e ordi-nato, stile Formula 1. I

EVERYONE ON TRACK
A strong point of the 2010 WSK Euro Series is the multitude of categories
present at a single ap-pointment. In fact, for the fi rst time the two top Inter-national karting categories were present (KF & KZ1) and all the other classes: KF2, KF3 and KZ2. This deci-sion was taken by choice Luca De Donno, owner of WSK: “The spectacle will benefi t – said De Donno – with all the best drivers on the track during the same weekend with the certain-ty for the public that they can follow a greater num-ber of highly spectacular races. Furthermore, for the teams the number of tran-sfers will be reduced and it will be possible to take a greater number of drivers to to each event”. The KZ categories race together and for this reason both
the KZ1 and KZ2 drivers get optimum visibility. Further-more when a driver is very strong in KZ2….it means he is ready for KZ1.
