Please note SUM for SAP HANA is no longer support in SP6 and is replaced with HLM

Hieverybody,

MynameisMan-TedandI'mcurrentlyontheSAPHANAsupportteamandI'vebeenontheteamsinceSeptember2012.

OurteamasacollectivehasbeennoticingariseinacertainareaofSAPHANA,SUMforSAPHANA.Aspartofmytraining

forsupportItookituponmyselftolearnandsetupSUMforSAPHANAonourlocalenvironment.Thisblogwilldocument

thestepsIdidtosetupourenvironmentaswellawalkthroughoftheproductalongwithtroubleshootingonecando.

So what is SUM for SAP HANA?SUMstandsforSoftwareUpdateManager,thistoolallowsuserstodownloadandupgradeSAPHANAcomponentsthrough

theSAPHANAStudio.SUMforSAPHANAwasnotavailableuntilSAPHANASP3.

So does that mean I need SUM for SAP HANA toupgrade my HANA system?SUMforSAPHANAistheonlysupportedmethodforuserstoupgradetheirSAPHANAsystem.Previouslyupgradeswere

doneusinghdbupd,butthisonlyupgradesthesystemandnotthesystemlandscapemetadata(lm_structure)

How do I get SUM?SUMforSAPHANAwillbepre-installedforusersunlesstheyhadSAPHANASPS02astherewasnoSUMforSAPHANA

duringtheSPS02release.

YoucanverifyifSUMforSAPHANAisinstalledonyousystembycheckingif/usr/sap/<SID>/SUMexists.

There’s no SUM folderIftheSUMfolderisnotpresentyouwillhavetoinstallSUMforSAPHANA,todothispleasefollowSAPNote1793303

(pleasenotethisnoteisforsinglenodesystems).TheSAPNotehasascriptthatwillassistininstallingLCM,SUMandyour

SAPHostAgent,butyoumusthaveSAPCARandSAPHANAseveralreadyinstalledonyoursystem.Thefollowingwillbethe

stepsthatIhadtodoforthisscript.

HavethefollowingfilesdownloadedfromtheSMPtoyouaregoingtoinstallingSUMforSAPHANA,keepthemin.SAR

format(pleasenotethatifyouhaveeitherLCMorSAPHostAgentalreadyinstalledit’sfinethescriptwillnotinstallthat

component,butyouwillstillneedtheSARfilespresent)

DownloadthescriptfilefromSAPNote1793303,extractthedownloadandplacetheabovedownloadsintothescript

folder(thefolderintheexamplebelowisnamed‘install’)andedittheinstall.propertiesfileinthefolder,itwilllooklikethe

following(pleasenotethattheitalictextisonlysampledata)

SUMforSAPHANAyouneedtoenterinyourkeystorepassword(thiskeystorewassetduringtheinstallationofSUMfor

SAPHANA)

Ifitisrunningthescreenwilllooklikethis

BydefaultthekeystorepasswordhastobeenteredineachtimebeforestartingSUM/LCM,optionallyakeystorefilecanbe

used.(AkeystorefileshouldonlybeusedifthesecurityonthefilesystemthathasSUMforSAPHANAinstalledcanbe

trusted).TostartSUMforSAPHANAexecute./sum.sh,itshouldlooklikethefollowing:

Ifyouaregoingtouseakeystorefilepleasereadthebelowfromdocumentation:

1. Createatextfileandnameitcatalina.properties.

2. Storethepasswordinthere,usingthecontent:keystore.password=******(where******isthekeystorepassword).

3. Savethefileindirectory<SUM_DIR>/config.(Makesurethatthisfileisreadableonlyby<SID>admuser)

So How Do I Use SUM for SAP HANA/Lifecycle Manager(LCM)?Firstthingsfirst,howarewegoingtoconnecttheServiceMarketplace?

InmyexampleIwillbeusingtheSMP,select"UseSMPconfiguration"andenterinyourS-userIDthatyouwoulduseto

downloadfilesfromtheSMP.

NowthattheSMPinformationissetupLifecycleManagementcanconnecttotheServiceMarketPlace.(Pleasenote,make

surethatSUMforSAPHANAisalreadyrunningoryouhavesetupyourkeystore,refertothe'HowdoIstartSUMforSAP

Afterclickingnext,LCMwillcheckforupdates

reallytellsusnothing,fortunatelythere’salinktotheerrorlogonthepage.Ifyoumadeitthisfartheerroriseitherdueto

SAPCARnotbeingabletounarchivethefileoranerroroccurredduringtheexecutionoftheinstallationscript.To

determinetheerrorpleasecheckthelogslocatedinthefollowingdirectory<SUM_DIR>/log

Ifyoucan’tunderstandthelogspleaseopenasupportticketwithSAP,viaservice.sap.com,withthelogsattached.

Excellent document! In my case, i found if the system has AFL library installed. The SUM upgrade will fail and give errorlike this:Software feature for component with name HANA_AFL and vendor sap.com was not found in list withinstalled features
