fits the, “Idaho Agriculture” theme.
8.5x11 size requirement.

February 27th – March 5th in the entry way
of the High School.

Beginning Art: The students are just finishing up their Silhouette
Projects and will be studying Value next.
2D: Using the 5 Lighting Patterns, the students are shading their
drawings to make their subjects look three-dimensional.
3D: The Paper Mache projects are nearly finished and we will begin
our Recycled Assemblages soon.

This year many students chose to enter the Bank of Idaho Youth Art
Competition. SSHS took a total of 14 awards! Students who won an
award will be listed below:

Artists of the Month: JANUARY
Jared Coglianese
Grade Level: 7 Current Art Class: 3D Art
Why he was selected: Jared is a hard worker and has a concrete
vision for each project. He inspires us with his ideas, perseverance,
skill, and positive attitude.
Favorite kind of art: Representational Graphite Drawings and Paper
Mache.
What inspires his artwork: “My Imagination.”
Other hobbies/interests: Ballroom, gymnastics, writing, reading,
Legos, and stop motion videos.
Advice for others: “Don’t give up on your project. It might not look
like the subject at first, but if you keep trying, it will turn out. Also,
don’t listen to negative comments; remember you are the artist.”
Tips that really helped his artwork: “Focus on the picture, not what
you know. This has helped my artwork look more realistic.”
Linnea Lisper
Grade Level: Junior (11) Current Art Class: Art 1B
First realized she liked art: “I guess that I’ve always liked it. It’s
something that has always been an interest of mine.”
Favorite kind of art: “I do photography, ceramics, painting and
drawing. My favorite is probably painting because I love working with
color.”
Favorite piece of artwork she has created: “I made this huge painting
of a tree when I was in 9th grade. It hangs at my Dad’s apartment.
Most people think that I bought it and then just added my signature.”
Other hobbies/interests: Sports and nature. “I am really into natural
body care; how I should take care of myself and what is best for my
body.”
What she likes most about art: “I like to create and art is just a really
good field to develop that.”
Artists of the Month: FEBRUARY
Robert Hull
Grade level: Junior (11) Current art class: Ceramics A
First realized he liked art: “In 8th grade I drew a really cool picture of a combine. I realized it had a ton of detail and I became interested in art.”
Favorite kind of art: Photography. “I feel I can capture really awesome pictures of farm equipment.”
Favorite piece of artwork he has created: “I really like a photo I have taken of a quadtrac pulling a disk through the field. The detail is amazing.”
Other hobbies/interests: Riding dirt bikes in the summer. “One of my other hobbies is actually operating farm equipment. It gives me time to think on pretty much anything I want.”
What he likes most about art: “When your project is done, you can reflect back on it. Your project is your memory. The project reminds you of what you did and what you can do. I think it is fun to know your abilities.”
Madison Fillmore
Grade level: 8 Classes Taken: Basic Art, 2D Art, 3D Art & Photography.
Favorite kind of art: Photorealism, “I love the challenge of making artwork look life-like.”
Favorite project: “My paper mache horse, because I put a lot of time and effort into it. I think it was worth it!”
Advice to other students: “Be patient!!! A masterpiece takes a long time to create.”
Other Hobbies/Interests: Basketball, Volleyball, showing horses, 4-H and Piano.
What inspires her artwork: “The cowboy culture as well as favorite horses and my family’s interests.”
Best advice she has received: “Use multiple references from different angles to give your artwork a more realistic look.”
What’s next for her: “I would like to learn how to paint photorealism.”
