"Sueños en la Realidad " es el resultado de 8 años de trabajo en
8 países Latinoamericanos. Esun ensayo fotográfico fundado en la
firme convicción en la inherente igualdad del ser humano;de que
todos estamos entrelazados entre sí por un espíritu común, un mar
colectivo de sueños."Sueños en la Realidad" es una jornada de éste
espíritu a través del laberinto de la vida, una quees infinitamente
compleja, aunque singular. Como escribiera Jorge Luis Borges, "Solo
senecesitan dos espejos cara a cara para construir un laberinto."
Las 58 imágenes en estacolección son todos espejos y el espejo que
los encara es usted.
"Dreams in Reality" is the result of 8 years of work in 8 Latin
American countries. It is aphotographic essay founded on a firm
belief in the inherent equality of mankind; that we areall bound by
a common spirit, a collective sea of dreams. "Dreams in Reality" is
a journey ofthis spirit through the labyrinth of life, one that is
infinitely complex, yet singular. As JorgeLuis Borges wrote, "It
only takes two facing mirrors to construct a labyrinth". The 58
images inthis collection are all mirrors and the facing mirror is
you.

Richard Leonardi fotógrafodocumental quien actual-mente vive en
Managua,Nicaragua, nació en Chicagoen 1961. Creció entre NuevaYork,
Denver, Boston y LosAngeles. El Sr. Leonardi iniciósu entrenamiento
el artevisual en Boston como estu-diante de pintura a los 9
añosantes de convertirse en fotógrafo a la edad de17 años. Después
de licenciarse enComunicación y Psicología del al Universidadde
Pepperdine en Malibu, California en 1984,empezó su carrera como
fotógrafo comercialy fotoperiodista, enfocando su
energíaúltimamente a la fotografía documental.
Richard Leonardi ha continuandotrabajando como fotógrafo durante
losúltimos 16 años y su trabajo periodístico ycomercial ha sido
publicado en los EstadosUnidos, Europa y América Latina. En su
quehacer artístico ha concluido con cincoimportantes proyectos.
El primero de los cuales fue un ensayo enblanco y negro
documentando la ardua vidainterior de los integrantes de un
pequeñogrupo de ballet y fue titulado "Sudor yLagrimas", exhibida
en 1985. En 1986 expusouna serie de tres años de trabajo; una
muestrainquisitiva, melancólica y reflexiva de retratosen blanco y
negro, inspirada en el período azulde Pablo Picasso, bajo el titulo
"Un AdagioAzul".
Tres viajes anuales a París, Francia durante1986-1988 fueron la
base para su siguienteserie en blanco y negro; inspirado por
lanovela de Italo Calvino: Ciudades Invisibles,

este ensayo sobre la aliena-ción y sensualidad llevó eltitulo
"Deseos y Temores" yfue mostrado en 1989.
El lente de Leonardi retornóal mundo del ballet, en estetiempo
enfocó tres años(1989-1991) de trabajo a colorsobre otra compañía
dedanza para la serie titulada
"Soñado por Otro" exhibida en 1992, en la cualexamina la
inherente paradoja del procesocreador y cuya fuente de inspiración
fue elcuento de Jorge Luis Borges: Las RuinasCirculares.
Los años desde 1992 hasta 2000, RichardLeonardi dedicó su
trabajo a éste ambiciosoensayo sobre los Latino Americanos
titulado"Sueños en la Realidad". Los 8 años estuvieronocupados en
la documentación de loshabitantes de la República Dominicana(1992),
Venezuela (1993), Colombia (1993),Ecuador (1994), Costa Rica
(1995), Honduras(1996), Guatemala (1997) y Nicaragua (1995-2000).
La serie ha contado con dosexposiciones en la ciudad de Managua.
En1997 con el auspicio de la Alianza Francesa yque tuvo lugar en el
edificio de esteorganismo en Nicaragua y más recientementeestuvo
expuesta durante un mes en el salónprincipal del Museo Nacional de
Nicaraguadesde Julio a Agosto de 1999.
En 1999 Richard Leonardi empezó atrabajar en otro proyecto
documental enblanco y negro; el cual examina la perpetuabatalla
interior del ser humano entre labondad y lo malévolo, la que tiene
lugar en laspreciosas y en ocasiones brutales fiestasreligiosas de
la región montañosa del pacificocentral de Nicaragua.

Richard Leonardi is adocumentary photographerwho lives in
Managua,Nicaragua. Born in Chicago in1961 and raised in New
York,Denver, Boston and LosAngeles, Mr. Leonardi beganhis visual
arts training inBoston as a student of painting at the age of9,
before turning to photography at the ageof 17. After graduating
from PepperdineUniversity in Malibu, California with a degreein
Communications and Psychology in 1984,he began a career as an
editorial andcommercial photographer, with the ultimatefocus of his
energies on documentaryphotography.
Richard Leonardi has continued to work asa photographer for the
last 16 years and hiseditorial and advertising work has
beenpublished in the United States, Europe andLatin America. His
artistic work has resultedin the completion of five major projects.
Thefirst of which was a black and white essaydocumenting the
trying; inner life of thedancers of a small ballet group titled
"Sweatand Tears" and was shown in 1985. In 1986 heexhibited three
years of work on a series ofprobing, melancholy and reflective
black andwhite portraits, inspired by Pablo Picasso’sblue period,
under the title "A Blue Adagio".Three successive, annual journeys
to Paris,France (1986-1988) were the basis for his nextblack and
white series; inspired in part by ItaloCalvino’s novel Invisible
Cities, these works

Fears" and wereshown in 1989. Leonardi’slens returned to the world
ofballet, this time to focusthree years (1989-1991) ofcolor work on
a series titled
"Dreamt by Another", exhibited in 1992,which examined the
inherent paradox of thecreative process and found inspiration in
theJorge Luis Borges short story: The CircularRuins.
From 1992 to 2000, Richard Leonardidedicated his life and work
to this ambitiousblack and white photo essay on LatinAmericans,
titled "Dreams in Reality". Eightyears were occupied by the making
ofphotographs in the Dominican Republic (1992),Venezuela (1993),
Colombia (1993), Ecuador(1994), Costa Rica (1995), Honduras
(1996),Guatemala (1997) and Nicaragua (1995-2000).The series saw
its first public showing inManagua in 1997 at the Galerie
AllianceFrancaise. "Dreams in Reality" had its secondexhibition
during a one-month run from July toAugust of 1999 in the central
gallery ofNicaragua’s National Museum in Managua.
In 1999 Richard Leonardi began work onanother black and white
documentaryproject. One which examines mankind’sperpetual interior
battle between good andevil; as played out in the beautiful, and
attimes brutal, religious festivals of Nicaragua’scentral-Pacific
highland region.
