Sudanese  Kids  Celebration  November  20,  2010  

 

                                 

It  was  a   team  effort   in  Houston  as  Aid  Sudan  prepared   for   the  Sudanese  Kids  Celebration   –   an   annual   event   that  encourages   education   and   provides  Sudanese   children   with   the   necessary  school  supplies.  In  the  making  for  some  time,   this   event   included   many  individuals   and   organizations  coordinating   efforts   to   make   it   a  special  day  for  the  kids.  

                                 

                                 

The   players:   Humble   Area’s   First  Baptist   Church   gathered   school  supplies.   Regina   Sebit   and   the   local  Sudanese   community   scheduled  meetings   and   phone   calls   to   get  organized.   Volunteers   from   RAM  (Refugee  Assistance  Ministries)  and  Aid  Sudan   organized   the   day’s   festivities  that   included  Bible   stories,   games   and  ice  cream.  Sudanese  volunteers  stuffed  gift  bags  with  school  supplies.  

                                 

                                 

The  event:  On  Saturday,  November  20,  over   40   children,   along  with  American  and   Sudanese   volunteers,   gathered  together   at   ChristChurch   Presbyterian  in   Bellaire   to   laugh,   play   and   receive  the   school   supplies   donated   for   the  event.   After   listening   to   a   Bible   story  about   how   Jesus   loves   children,   the  kids   enjoyed   festivities   that   included  ice   cream,   jump   rope,   parachute  games,   the   limbo,   tug-­‐of-­‐war   and  basketball.  And  on  a  little  more  serious  note,   the   kids   received   a   pep   talk   on  working  hard  in  school.    

                                 

                                 

                         

Thanks   to   the   Sudanese  Executive   Team,   Humble   Area’s  First  Baptist  Church,  RAM,  and  all  volunteers  who  worked  together  to  make  this  a  special  day  for  the  Sudanese   children!   As   Sudanese  and   Americans   come   together,  the   community   is   impacted   for  good  by  the  love  of  God's  people  and  the  power  of  the  Gospel.
