strategic plan planned with the school’s commitee. All of strategic
program is to make researching as a firm identity in MAN 2 Kudus. As for
strategic program related to research-based school that have been done
is listed below:
1. Curriculum Field
a. Extra curriculum field in research
MAN 2 Kudus has developed student’s research and innovative
product. This program is managed by 14 teachers in accordance with
their areas of expertise. The research consist of 3 types; basic
science, applied science and social knowledge and humanity. In order
to actualize better quality scientific work, MAN 2 Kudus debrief their
student in research since the students are in their first year through
mentoring program with materials of writing scientific work, qualitative
research method, research instrument and basic statistic. Each
lessons last for 2 hours. And the research degree of first until third
year is listed below:
1) Innovative Product
Every single first year students have to make innovative
product; these products have to simplify and support a
work/activity which is related to daily life, or to entertain and delight
using environtment friendly technology.
2) Writing Scientific Work and Research
This is the primary stage of the research including writing
scientific work with qualitative and quantitative study. This stage is
12
done by year II students. Guiding process is done through 1 year.
Research evaluation is done 2 times by tester team.
3) Collaborative Research
This stage is optional for students wanting to continue their
research with collaboration among students. In-depth advanced
research is done in order to get research works with better quality.
b. Student Research Guiding
Guiding student’s research is done by experts. Research
advisors is based on research title submitted by students. Advisors
can be individual or by team depending on the research’s
complexity. Expert’s principle also enable students to be advised

MAN 2 Kudus.
E. Challenges and Obstacles Faced
1. Lokasi Instansi Mitra Location of Partner’s Instance
All this time, MAN 2 Kudus is parnering with Semarang State
University, Diponegoro University, and LIPI (Lembaga Ilmu
Pengetahuan Indonesia / Science Insitute of Indonesia). The three
instances is not located in the same city as MAN 2 Kudus. To do
experimental researches in related laboratory, student needs specific
time alocation. Of course, this made MAN 2 Kudus have to harmonize
studying and teaching activity of students related with the research.
2. Acreditated National and International Journals Source
Research journal is a primary materials for every single
research done by teacher and students. Every research done by
students, MAN 2 Kudus requires them to refer to minimal 5 acreditated
journals. Nevertheless, most of journals from acreditated researches is
not free. This becomes the obstacle for MAN 2 Kudus at accessing
acreditated journals reference.
22
3. Research Sponsor
Research funds that until now is used is sourced from the
school’s budget and from the students. Experimental researches
especially from science field often needs more fundings. This matter is
the primary obtacles to produce quality researches.
F. Valuable lessons / Suggestion
1. Growing research hearts from the very start
Teaching research focuses on ‘learning by doing’ principle.
Students actively doing their research with the topic which varies
depending on their area of interest. Planting empirical mindset,
problem solving and honesty from researches can be done since
students are still in their first years. Teachers and Advisors
accomodate and aim student’s original idea to be studied for the
research.
2. Cooperation between fellow schools, society and industry.
Research product that is produced by the school is useful for
the society if the solution of the problem really happens. In a wide
scale, of course industry parties have their role in implementation of
strategic researches that have been produced. So, the school and
industries must cooperate well.
3. Growing student’s competitions souls in various levels.
If there is scientific competition in regional or even national
level, it can be said that MAN 2 Kudus has never absent in
participating. Competition is a field for sharing and self-evaluation. In a
competition, participants can share their experience about research,
even integrate one idea with another. Beside, competition is a self-
evaluation moment to know the strength and weakness from research
has been done.
