Effective J anuary 1, 2008, the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB)

has been realigned into two separate regulatory bodies, the EnergyResources Conservation Board (ERCB), which regulates the energyindustry, and the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), which regulatesthe utilities industry.

As part of this realignment, the title pages of all existing EUB directivesnow carry the new ERCB logo. However, no other changes have beenmade to the directives, and they continue to have references to EUB.As new editions of the directives are issued, these references will bechanged.

GUIDE RENAMED AS A DIRECTIVE

As announced inBulletin 2004-02: Streamlining EUB Documents on Regulatory Requirements, the

Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) will issue only directives, discontinuing interim directives,

informational letters, and guides. Directives set out new or amended EUB requirements or processes to

be implemented and followed by licensees, permittees, and other approval holders under the jurisdiction

of the EUB.

As part of this initiative, this document has been renamed as a directive. However, no other changes

have been made. Therefore, the document text continues to have references to guides. These

references should be read as referring to the directive of the same number. When this directive is

amended, these references will be changed to reflect their renaming as directives.

The EUB is updating publications that pre-dated the amalgamation of the Energy

Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) and the Public Utilities board (PUB) in 1995. The

Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) takes the place of any references to the ERCB,

PUB, or their full names.

Major revisions to EUB documents are occurring as part of regulatory re-engineering and

streamlining initiatives. In some cases, older publications are withdrawn or integratedinto new ones. This document has not yet gone throught the revision process. Please

consult the latest Acts and Regulations to interpret and apply legal requirements.
