Hello Sub-D!

When I came to West Texas A&M University for college, I was nervous. In high school, I had not really been involved in any clubs, but I felt I needed to join some-thing so that I could meet peo-ple and make friends now that I was in such a different envi-ronment. NEBRASKA-IOWA DISTRICT

Hello Subregion D! I hope your summer is going well y‟all! Summer is almost over so this means we have to enjoy our last hot sticky summer days. This summer, my district has been working on planning our fall event which will be held on the weekend of Sep 30th - Oct 2nd. This event is a camping weekend where we invite every club in our district and we do a service project, and this year we are doing a clean-up of Blackhawk State Park, IA. We have also started to work on our first bul-letin of the year. Many of our clubs have already started planning recruit-ment at board meetings. We are also planning on attending the Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis District Convention. I am very proud of my board for the great job they have done. Now, we are counting down the days until school starts back up. The NE-IA CKI district and I wish you all a great start of a school year.

KANSAS DISTRICT

Hello Subregion D! In the Kansas District, we are working on a lot of different things for this upcoming year. We are currently working on planning a get together during the Kiwanis convention in Hays, KS, which is the first weekend of Au-gust. I will be giving a speech on CKI and Kiwanis and the impor-tance of their support and interac-tion. We are also working to come to an agreement on the new dues. We want to increase it, but had planned to do it in August when we set a budget.

MISSOURI-ARKANSAS DISTRICT

The Missouri- Arkansas district is planning to have Club Officer Train-ing Conference as a camp out this year. We are also planning our Fall Service Madness which will be held in Eureka Springs Arkansas. This weekend we are planning a stream clean, hopefully helping out with the Wildcat Refuge, along with a scaven-ger hunt to clean up downtown Eureka Springs. Besides planning events for the fall semester we are also getting ready to launch our dis-trict wide fundraiser K-Famopoly. K-Famopoly is just like monopoly but we are selling spaces on the board to local K-family clubs and business. Once all the spaces are sold we are then turning it into our own game, K-Famopoly. The proceeds from this fundraiser will be going to Eliminate Project, MO-ARK district, and win-ner‟s choice. We are also working on growing out district and making it stronger.

TEXAS-OKLAHOMA DISTRICT

I hope everyone has had a great sum-mer so far, and have been staying active with CKI. You can bet that members in the Mighty Texas-Oklahoma District have been busy living our tenets of Service, Leader-ship, and Fellowship. Since the be-ginning of summer we are already 15% percent of the way to complet-ing our 16,000 service hours goal, and look forward to reaching that goal by the end of this service year. Many of our members were repre-sentatives at Circle K International Convention and Large Scale Service Project this year in Virginia Beach, VA, which was a lot of fun. We made many new friends from all over CKI, and can‟t wait to see them at future International events. Right now, the T-O Board of Officers are preparing for their upcoming board meeting in August to work on ways of serving our members in better ways. We look forward to a great year!

LOUSIANA-MISSISSIPPI-W. TENNESSEE DISTRICT

Hello Subregion D! Here in the La-Miss-W. Tenn district, we are hard at work revamping our goals. With a membership goal of 400 and a service hour goal of 2,500, we have made some lofty goals, but rest as-sured, our plans to increase K-family relations will only make our goals that much more accomplishable. I have high hopes for this upcoming year and cannot wait to show the rest of CKI how La-Miss-W. Tenn puts on a convention! By: Lauren Perkins

Guest District Profile

Wisconsin-Upper Michigan

All about WUM

Apart from cows, cheese, and the contagious Lady Gaga spirit, there is more than meets the eye when talking about the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District. Located in Subregion C and in the heart of the Midwest, the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District is home to 629 members in 24 clubs across Wiscon-sin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

A unique aspect of the WUM District is our 30 year rela-tionship with Wisconsin Easter Seals, who allows us to host district events that include housing, meals, and entertainment for only $15. Our fall trainer event that we call Membership Awareness Conference, or MAC for short, is our biggest event each year, where anywhere from 150-180 Circle K „ers come to Camp Wawbeek in Wisconsin Dells. Apart from MAC, we host a Kiwanis Family Event every other month. These include Milwaukee Brewer baseball games, Milwaukee Admiral Hockey games, and more. Other events we host include a winter event in the UP, Spring Fling, and a camping event in the summer.

One event that we really pride ourselves in is our annual Ki-wanis Family Service Day. This is the equivalent of a DLSSP, but our event brings together members from all levels of the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District Kiwanis Family. Circle K members work alongside Key Clubbers, Kiwanis members, and even Builders Club members during the day. After a full day of service, attendees gather together for a social and to learn about each branch of the Kiwanis Family.

LEADERSHIP

Overall, the members of the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Dis-trict are in it for the long haul. Dedicated to service and making a difference in our communities, WUM Circle K‟ers bring a fun and positive aspect to the forefront. We would love to have members of Subregion D join us at MAC this year, taking place October 7-9. If you want to see our members in action, this would be the place to do so. If you have any questions about the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Dis-trict, please feel free to contact my-self at codyschara@gmail. Hope-fully, we‟ll see you at MAC in the WUMderful world of Wisconsin-Upper Michigan.

If you can‟t do a tradi-tional book drive, try doing a K-family book drive! Some Kiwanians might be professors or teachers that have discon-tinued textbooks laying around their departments, but even if they are not, they still might have books to donate! You can also ask local Key Clubs to check with their schools to see if any of the textbooks are discontinued, or will be at the end of the year.

Then when your chap-ter holds the packing party, you can invite all the K-family branches and use the $50 that Better World Books gives you and make it a fellowship event! Then, with the money you raise, you can donate that to the Key Club Governor‟s project, to help out their cause and show your support!

Monthly Passions You all have spoken, retweeted rather, and I have listened. The cause that you are all most passionate about (as measured by tweets) is the Salvation Army. One really cool way to get involved with the Salvation Army is to hold a clothing drive or a thrift store drive. Think a can food drive, only for things that can be sold at your local Salvation Army thrift store.

The funds raised from the salvation army thrift stores go to fund their adult rehabili-tation programs. There are many pack-ets available on how to run a successful drive, and, because they are so excited to work with others, they will even come and pick up your dona-tion bins. If you need more information, please check out http://www.satruck.org/ or email me at [email protected].

If all else fails, order your text books from them! And CKI members get a dis-count! Just enter the code: CircleK217
