THE DISTINCTIVE QUALITY and solid reputation of the Finnish educa-tion system brings thousands of interna-tional students to the country every year.Jyväskylä is an exceptionally attractive study destination with its combination of top-quality education and research, tech-nologically advanced campuses, a safe and comfortable community, the unique Nordic nature and landscape, as well as a wide range of sports, cultural events and activities.

We are one of the largest and most popular multidisciplinary universities

in Finland. Our seven faculties host over 15,000 students from all over Finland and nearly 100 countries

around the world.

I chose JYU because the CEM programme,

combining business and environmental studies, fits my interests and ambitions perfectly. The best thing about my studies is the relaxed and interactive learning atmosphere. Moreover, Jyväskylä is a modern city with beautiful nature. And you can never be bored as there are so many different activities organized for students.

The Erasmus exchange year I spent in Jyväskylä led me to

choose JYU for my master’s degree studies as well. I liked the way of teaching and the fact that I had the freedom to choose extra courses that interested me in addition to the mandatory courses. I recommend JYU to everyone who is eager to meet and work with people from different countries, as well as to everyone who wants to attend a high quality university, and experience a very special student life in a student city.

It might sound crazy, but the best experiences I have

had here on a daily basis are the never ending opportunities to learn from my failure. Basically, I am encouraged to fail in order to increase my probability of succeeding in the future. At JYU I value the mostthe constructive criticism I receive, which helps me grow my scientific skills.

The University of Jyväskylä Graduate School for Doctoral Studies educates professionals in research, helping them become competent and versatile experts in various fields for the needs of society. Approximately 160 doctors graduate yearly from the University’s seven faculties.

Our high quality research clusters enable long-term research and offer optimal, versatile environments for doctoral training. Examples of these kinds of clusters are the Centres of Excellence financed by the Academy of Finland, the Accelerator Laboratory, the Nanoscience Center, the Finnish Institute for Educational Research (FIER), the Centre for Applied Language Studies (CALS), the Family Research Centre, and the Jyväskylä Centre for Interdisciplinary Brain Research.

During the doctoral training, students familiarise themselves pro-foundly with their own field of research in order to develop a readiness to in-dependently and critically apply scientific research methods and create new scientific knowledge. In addition to independent research, the degree includes discipline-specific studies and transferable skills studies.

A general application period for doctoral studies is open twice a year. More information:
