Michael Bucksmith The Power of Me! Classroom 4

Being human is awesome... but it can also be very strange. Look around at how different and diverse everyone is. We're all amazing and we're all a bit extraordinary. Life is awesome too and the better we get to know ourselves and the better we get to know each other, the more fun it can be and the happier we are. Let's learn about what we all have in common as well as what makes us stand out. Then we can be our best selves and encourage others to be their best selves too.

Michael Bucksmith My children call me old but I was only born in the seventies. I've travelled to over 50 countries and met all sorts of weird and wonderful people along the way. I love pavlova, swimming in the sea and cooking nachos. I don't own a TV. When the sun shines I still like to ride my skateboard, run long

distances and drink coffee (not at the same time anymore). In my spare time I am the chair of the Taranaki Gifted Community Trust and Associate Principal at Inglewood Primary School in Taranaki.

AGE School students 4 the Love of Learning - Aroha mai, Aroha atu Aroha nui Classroom 4

At AGE we are redefining skills for the future and empowering children so they know themselves and believe they can make a difference. Many of our students have both special abilities and challenges, in the past, they have often been recognised only for their disabling condition. Here at AGE each gifted child’s special abilities are celebrated and nurtured, regardless of any challenge. This student-lead presentation recognises the way that PBL (Passion-based learning) and LAB (Like A Boss) can educate for sustainable wellbeing, entrepreneurial learning, innovation and environmental awareness. But more importantly foster a love of learning that builds on self-efficacy and emotional intelligence, allowing students to thrive and reconnect with their passions. Come and listen to our wonders as they share their dare to dream themes and show you how they turn them into realities.

3:05-4:05pm Session 4

Heejin Woo Giftedness: A Double Edged Sword Classroom 4 One of the common misconceptions on gifted students is that ‘gifted students have no problem’ because they are intelligent. However, a large number of gifted students go through hard times because of their sensitivity, perfectionism including procrastination, underachievement, boredom or feeling of isolation. Giftedness is like a double-edged sword, a trait that bothers gifted students can help them achieve something at the same time and vice versa. For example, sensitivity to sound makes gifted students in music distinguish different notes, tones, and melody so they can write a piece of music. Perfectionism oriented from oneself can be helpful in motivating him/herself to achieve something. Having their own time helps them fully focus on what they do. The aim of the lecture is to help gifted students understand possible obstacles they may face or are facing and build their resilience to deal with the challenges from their giftedness so they can develop their potential and eventually, they can grow up as a happy person.
