STRONGER This is a season of storms, high winds, and floods, first in the natural and then in the spiritual. The spiritual realm is filled with movement and spiritual warfare. We are called to go deeper with God, to put our roots down, and grow strong in the midst of it all. Life is about more than what can be seen on the surface, the tangible and natural realm. Going deeper in our spiritual life is the goal of this 40 day fasting and prayer time together. Joshua is one of the most challenged leaders recorded in Biblical history. He inherited a naturally impossible job, carried the responsibility of over 3 million people who were truly without a home, and was command by God to lead a massive military offensive that would require an invasion into some of the most fortified and hostile nations on the planet. As Joshua prepared for the history altering victories that God would perform through his obedience, God repeatedly spoke one thing to him. In Joshua Chapters 1-3, God used the Hebrew word “chazaq” which means be strong, courageous, valiant, manly, strengthened, established, firm, fortified, obstinate, and mighty. He used a word that Joshua would understand and create mental context that he would need for battle. The word God is speaking to us in this time is the same word. The meaning isn’t to convey the thought that we maintain or go with the status quo. It means that we refuse to stay the way we were last year and we not only get strong, but we get Stronger. Going deeper will make us stronger and enable us to give all to God, our past, our present, our future; we leave everything in God’s hands.

I am inviting you to join my family and hundreds of others as we go deeper, grow stronger, and give all to God. Choose to fast and pray and read the scriptures each day and prepare for an unusually blessed year! It is our prayer that this set of notes guides you to all that God has for you in the coming months ahead. We are standing in faith with you and your family that God does exceedingly, abundantly above all that you can think or ask in your life this year. Growing Stronger! MIRACLES Ps 139:16-18 reads: ”Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number then the sand; when I awake, I am still with You.” Notice that all the days are already ordained for you by God, days that have been written in heaven, days that have been written in Gods book for your life. They are preordained, predestined pages of your life. What size will your book be? How many of these pages will become reality, brought to earth by faith to be accomplished and fulfilled? Will you be an 18 page paperback or a 400 page hardback? Will you be a one volume or a 10-volume person of destiny? The apostle John wrote, And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book (John 20:30). And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written, (John 21:25). You are a book. Your life can be filled with divine surprises, supernatural happenings, miracles of every kind. Don’t accept anything less than the full volume or volumes that God is writing for you, around you, and through you. God has something prepared for you that is good, miraculous and life-changing. Believe right now that you are coming to a God ordained intersection and the miracles are moving through that intersection to intercept you. Miracles are coming your way. Begin now, at this very moment, to cultivate a mind-set of faith; yes God can, God desires to, God is able and willing to work miracles through any person

who has a heart to believe in His unlimited power and unlimited possibilities. Believe that there is Miracles Prepared for You!

Miracle Prepared for You! One definition of a miracle is a supernatural manifestation of divine power in the external world, a special revelation of the presence and power of God. Your life should be a place where God manifests His power in your external world. Your life should be characterized by the following words: miraculous, wonderful, surprising event, a marvel, phenomenon, a stunner, supernatural occurrence, amazing, astonishing, astounding, awesome, extraordinary, fabulous, incredible, spectacular, unbelievable, unreal, wonder working.

Attitude of Expectation and Optimism! In 2010 let’s make our goal to develop an attitude of Biblical optimism, an attitude that says nothing is impossible with God. Make pessimism and unbelief unwelcome in your mind and heart. Forbid them to trespass upon your thoughts. Don’t live life with a low level of expectation. C.S. Lewis said,”…indeed if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the gospel, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. Miracles for me! Why me? After so many life disappointments, how can I expect great things form God? My dream has been ruined, and I’m not about to get knocked down again. Why would God want to waste a miracle on me? I’ve heard all these questions hundreds of times, the enemy of our soul desires to rob us of the great Christian treasures of faith, hope and belief and one of the ways he does so is by convincing us that God no longer intervenes in the affairs of His people.”

Hebrews 13:8 says: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” This is scripture, Gods word and God doesn’t lie! Will you accept something so simple? Jesus has not changed. He is the same every day. The same Jesus who worked all those miracles two thousand years ago is the same Jesus today! Jesus said: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor, He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed. (Luke 4:18) This same Jesus is waiting for you to proclaim your faith in His ability to meet your need with a miracle. In 2010 please make the following statement your saying for the year:

“ The Holy Spirit is upon me to reveal the miracles that have been hidden, delayed or resisted for my life.”

A key scripture to personalize and stand on as you contend for and pursue miracles is 1 Corinthians 2:9: “But as it is written, Eye has not seen, not ear heard, nor have entered the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”

New English Bible; “Things beyond our seeing, things beyond our hearing, things beyond our imagining, things God has prepared for those who love him!” (1 Corinthians 2:9 NEB). J.B. Phillips; “Things which eye has not seen, ear has not heard and which entered not the heart of man, whatsoever things God prepared for them that love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9 JBP) The Amplified Bible; “what eye has not seen and ear has heard has not entered into the heart of man, all that God has prepared ( made and

Page 8: Stronger

keeps ready) for those who love Him (who hold Him in affectionate reverence, promptly obeying Him and gratefully recognizing the benefits He has bestowed).” (1 Corinthians 2:9 AMP)

Creating an Environment for Miracles

1. A miracle atmosphere is nurtured by an attitude of expectation.

The attitude of expectation is the opposite of negativism or the “I’m not surprised that nothing happened” attitude. Expectation is a discipline of the believers focus on Jesus and His word. An expectant attitude can create an atmosphere charged with excitement and faith; God can; God has in the past. Let’s pray together believing for a miracle in spite of how we feel. Maybe God will surprise us! Acts 3:5; Acts 28:6.

2. A miracle atmosphere is encouraged where an attitude of

believing exists. Believing is not based on a good or bad feeling, or experience, it based on the solid declaration of Gods work. If God has promised it then you and I have the right and responsibility to reach for it. You and I can choose to believe God is with us and He has not changed!

Page 9: Stronger

St Augustine once said, “Faith is to believe what we do not see and the reward of faith is to see what we believe.” Jesus made believing a top priority: Mark 9:23,”If you believe all things are possible, to him who believes.” John 14:12, “Most assuredly I say to you, he who believes in Me the words that I do he will do also, and greater works than these he will do, because I go to my Father.”

3. A miracle atmosphere is secured when we confess Gods greatness. The best way to confess God greatness is to read His word out loud. Read of the great acts of Creation, the miracles of the Lord working with His people, miracle bread, miracle water, healing the lepers, saving His people when they where face with insurmountable odds. God was great then and God is great now. Psalm 104:1-2;1 Chronicles 29:11.

4. A miracle atmosphere is experienced in the presence of a living

Christ. We experience the living Christ through the miracle of the Holy Spirit who abides in us and surrounds us as pray and worship. To honor Jesus is to worship him passionately and to recognize His powerful presence. Mark 2:3,4;10-12; Mark 5:29-30.

Page 10: Stronger

8 | P a g e © Family Life Church 2010

5. A miracle atmosphere is boldness and without embarrassment.

In order to see more miracles today, we must ask for them often, pray for them specifically and declare they are here. Boldness means we go outside our comfort zones and outside of our small prayers, asking boldly for miracles, for things that are humanly impossible and unlikely to happen, we ask and we ask boldly. Matthew 20:30-31; Matthew 10:7-8.

6. A miracle atmosphere is cultivated by speaking Gods word. The confession is the month speaking. Whatever fills you heart will eventually spill out of your month. Filling your month with God’s word requires work and time. Isaiah 55:10-11; Mark 11:23.

7. A miracle atmosphere is deepened through prayer and fasting. Isaiah 58:5-6; Matthew 17:21.

Conclusion: As we enter 2010 let us make the faith decision to stand STRONGER and going deeper-growing stronger-giving all to establish a miracle atmosphere wherever we go. Expressing it in our attitude our words, and our actions. Looking for those divine moments of opportunity when a miracle could be possible.

DIVINE ECONOMY “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38 NKJV) The following dynamics are the revelations of how God works. His economy is not based on the ways of the world or the wisdom of men. It is supernatural and rooted in heaven. These are the ways you also can prosper, even in financially challenging days.

1) Obey and you will be blessed – Deuteronomy 28. The bible tells us that blessing is the result of obedience to God. For those who obey His voice and keep His commandments, blessing will come in the city or in the country-on your way out and on your way in. It is also urgent for believers to understand that we cannot presumptuously attempt something that He did not direct us to do, the money will not be there. But whatever you do will be blessed as you honor the Lord by obeying His voice and following the commands of His word.

2) Tithe and the windows of heaven will be opened – Malachi 3:10. If you want to tap into the divine economy, put God first in your life. And if He is first in your money, then He is first in your heart (Matthew 6:21). Paying our tithe, as Jesus

Page 17: Stronger

© Family Life Church January 2010 Page 15

told us to do (Luke 11:42), keeps us in covenant relationship with Him and gets Him on our side. In our financial struggles (Malachi 3:10) He becomes the attorney to negotiate the settling of all our debts. He becomes our heavenly banker. And the Lord promises to open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing we cannot even contain. He also promises to rebuke the devourer. Anytime the devil comes to steal from you, the Lord will arise, rebuke him and guard your resources. Your money is the vehicle to be used for the propagation of the Gospel. He will protect His property in order to fulfill His purpose.

3) Give and it will be given to you – Luke 6:38. God promises abundant measure in return, it will be given to you good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. All God asks us to do is obey!

4) Sow bountifully and you will reap bountifully – 2 Corinthians 9:6. When we sow liberally and abundantly and bountifully – that is the standard by which we receive.

5) Cast your bread on the water and it shall return to you – Eccles.11:1.

Page 18: Stronger

© Family Life Church January 2010 Page 16

When we sow our bread comes back to us on the waters of providence and provision!

6) Lend to the Lord by giving to the poor and the Lord will repay – Proverbs 19:17. When compassion for the poor and needy moves you into action the Lord is faithful to repay you.

7) Scatter and you will increase – Proverbs 11:24. When you scatter seed to the places the Lord puts on your heart it will bring increase to your life and your resources.

8) Be generous and you will be made rich – Proverbs 11:25. The Bible says a generous man devises generous things, and by generosity he shall stand (Isaiah 32:8). Generosity is a lifestyle. Christians should be the most generous people on the planet. We are the seed of Abraham. We are blessed. We have more than enough. As we live in the spirit of generosity, the riches of heaven are released on our behalf.

9) Water and be watered yourself – Proverbs 11:25. Look for the dry and thirsty land to sow into it will bring a crop. That will bring God’s best into your life!

Consider this amazing divine perspective. We obey Gods commands and we are blessed. We pay our tithe and the windows

Page 19: Stronger

© Family Life Church January 2010 Page 17

of heaven are opened and the devourer is rebuked. We give and it is given back to us, pressed down shaken together. We sow bountifully and we reap bountifully. We cast our bread on the water and it comes back to us after many days. We give to the poor and the Lord repays us. We scatter, we increase. We live a generous lifestyle and we are made rich. We water others and we are watered ourselves. When the money comes, it comes back in fulfillment. It comes back in security. It comes back to us in joy. It comes back in blessings on our family. It comes back in the provision of our monthly needs. It comes back in seeing lives changed, the hopeless helped, and the sinner converted. And it comes back also in even more tangible resources and financial means that can continually be sown into Gods great kingdom. When the Lord finds someone like you, He finds someone He can trust with His riches. As you obey and tithe and give and sow, the Lord will open the storehouses of heaven and pour out uncontainable blessings. The more you give the more He gives. Your shovel is not as big as His and He will always be able to out-give you and bless you beyond description watch out, the day will come when – all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord you God (Deuteronomy 28:2).

FASTING The Purpose of “The Fast” The ultimate goal of the fast is for spiritual nourishment, and doing that by sacrificing your bodies’ desires. People look down on fasting for several reasons. They have never had a breakthrough when they fasted for a season or for something. There is a disbelief in God that he would minister to somebody based on the absence of food or objects. People have struggled in the past with fasting, and feel like they will lose just at the idea of fasting. Fasting is a carnal decision with spiritual results, it takes my spirit telling my brain to sacrifice food, but it takes my brain telling my stomach NO! That is where most fasters seem to lose the battle. But God has been victorious in the past, and he will be victorious through you. My goal for you in this small handout is to replace the food with faith. For what God is going to do through those hands that you use everyday to feed your body. They are now going to be used to feed your soul and spirit. Letting you feed those around you. Looking at Jesus he did not heal one blind man, raise one dead person, cast out one devil, cleanse a leper, or do any miraculous work, until he fasted. He was baptized first (this a great opportunity for you to look into that if you have never been water baptized), and then he fasted. “Then Jesus was led by the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights He was hungry”(Matthew 4:1-2) Jesus was led by the spirit, allow yourself to be led by the spirit, and what he wants to do in you and through you. Change your mentality right now on why you fast. You do not fast for yourself, you fast for those around you. That’s the approach that Jesus had toward fasting, that should also be our approach. Not only does it let you enter the fasting period with confidence and strength, but you enter knowing that the Spirit will use you. “Jesus was led up by the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil”. Take advantage of this fasting season by spending less time where you would normally spend it. Am I saying stay away from people or friends that you always see? Yep, Jesus separated himself for forty days and

Page 21: Stronger

© Family Life Church January 2010 Page 19

forty nights from culture, people, and normal routines of life. He went into the wilderness with passion in his heart for people, and a desire not only to change his life, but those around him. Filtering who and what you expose yourself to also helps with the temptation of giving-in to the fast. There is nothing worse then when you’re at home doing your thing, and you haven’t eaten in six days. And your best friend with a big cheeseburger and fries walks in. To make matters worse he bought you a meal, he never does that! But for some reason today he was enticed to buy you a meal. We then leave the room upset to go “pray” or something, but all we can think about is sinking our teeth into a juicy cheeseburger. Was your friend sent by the devil himself to make you eat and lose your fasting momentum? Obviously no, but being victorious in a little temptation (and I say little heavily), leads to being victorious in the overwhelming temptations. Fasting makes you more vertically attentive more then horizontally attentive. By doing a fast we are more sensitive to the Holy Spirit, and his works. While the horizontal mind set looks around us for things to get done and conquer. Fasting makes you look UP and to the Father while being led by the Spirit following the example of Christ to look around you for things to conquer and get done. There is a power in corporate fasting and corporate praise. With that, I write this with urgency in my tone. DO NOT MISS THE MOMENT OF THE WIND (Act 2:2) As a church separates and sanctifies itself God responds with the giving of his Spirit. And in the Spirit there is Power, that power is the word dunamis, meaning ability. God wants to establish in you an able spirit, when it come to you, the church, and most of all the lost. You never know your able until you do it. A vessel fasting and activating a connection with his/her spirit with the fathers has sparked some of the greatest ministries and revivals in Christian history. People like Oral Roberts, Mother Teresa, Evan Roberts (fasted for 13 months). Healing evangelists like John Alexander Dowie, John G. Lake, Maria Wordworth-Etter, Smith Wigglesworth, Kathryn Kuhlman. All these made fasting not a ritual or routine in there lives, but made it a pattern as a foundational part of their ministries. There is power to be had, and we can take hold of that power by fasting with people on our minds, and the pulsing Spirit of God in us.

Page 22: Stronger

© Family Life Church January 2010 Page 20

“A true hunger” Its amazing how food was the temptation used to cause Adam and Eve to fall. Its equally amazing how Jesus began His earthly ministry - to redeem US – by abstaining from food. If we’re all honest with ourselves we would say that food has power over us. Why are diets so hard? Or the fact you put chocolate in front of peoples face and it’s like a pride of lions devouring it. Or maybe the coffee and doughnut that we rely on to wake up to everyday. I think it is very ironic that the first thing Jesus felt for you and me was hunger, and the last thing he felt in his death was thirst. Why does the body of Christ not do well in the area of fasting? Fact is – we are human. But the truth is Jesus gave us power over the flesh, and he gave us self-control. Satan tempted Jesus saying “turn these stones into bread”(Matt 4:3). Satan was constantly trying to shift Jesus’ focus on his desire for food, rather than the assignment sent by the Father. “Unless you put prayer with your fasting, there is no need to fast” (Jentezen Franklin) Light does not come through the light-bulb, unless plugged into the power source. For the light (breakthrough) to take place in your fast. You have to be plugged-in to the power source through prayer. Prayer is simply talking with the Father. Doing it shows you have faith in Him, and believe Him. But also the topic of conversation goes to a whole new intimate level when the topic isn’t about you. Intimacy is not a jewel in your crown or another level in your heavenly palace. But should be a characteristic of your relationship with the Father. Intimacy is based on the needs of the other person, therefore if we are to know the needs of or the hunger that Christ has for his people. To fulfill that need is going to require our faith.

Fasting without faith would be like fishing without a hook. We will get merely teased with our breakthrough if we never learn to tap into our faith for that breakthrough. If Jesus served, ministered, and died for the lost. And we call ourselves followers/disciples of Christ, who are we to fast and fail. But Jesus will make us victorious. He says “Approach the throne of grace that you may obtain mercy”. You will fail at fasting if you are prideful. Because approaching the throne of grace is a humble act. Let me encourage you to wait till next year to fast if you think you are doing it because you are spiritual. Is denying your flesh spiritual? Absolutely. Is sacrificing your wants and desires for God’s desires a spiritual decision? Without a doubt. But when we do those things so that we can become

Page 23: Stronger

© Family Life Church January 2010 Page 21

more spiritual, we sacrifice the ability (power) of the spirit to work in us, because the foundation of that decision is based on your Christian trophy collection. Not the hunger to be used of God, and influence your realm. Fasting should be simple because our God is a simple God. Do not complicate fasting, it’s as simple as Jesus did it, and so WE do it. There is no need for a deep definition, or big theological revelation on why we fast. Jesus did it, and he was pretty successful so we might as well. It is really as simple as that. Fasting without faith and prayer is planned starvation. Fasting does more then make you hungry, or enable you to save a buck at the grocery store. It opens you up to allow God to move in your life. When you set yourself aside and place God where you were at. It is at that point that God gives not only grace and power, but breakthrough and anointing. Fasting Breaks Spiritual Chains Fasting puts the power in Gods hands to break chains. Chains of affliction, bondage, depression, anxiety, stress, addiction, lack, confusion etc. Most of the time it is you realizing you have been bound by one of those things and you need God to move on your behalf. If one of these areas is in your life, and you do the fast. Make it a target, if you aim at nothing you hit nothing. You want breakthrough aim at that chain that the devil has placed on you and your potential. And watch as you pray and intercede for it to be broken how God will come down and release you into freedom and weightlessness. Fasting Guides You We can all agree that we need to know the “right-way” for our lives. Should I take that job…? Should I marry that person…? Is this a smart investment for the future…? It is very biblical to seek God for a specific answer for a decision that is on your plate. Examples are found in Judges 20:26 (Israel seeking to know if they should go into battle against the tribe of Benjamin), 1 Samuel 7:6 (seeking God at Mizpah for forgiveness and protection against the Philistine army), and 2 Chronicles 20:3 (Jehoshaphat inquiring about the army about to attack).

Fasting opens the door for God to use You Ezra was used by God to lead a generation out of Babylonian captivity. In the midst of the remnant she proclaimed a fast at the river of Ahava (Ezra 8:21-24). Ezra understood that fasting is a simple way to get an answer for a people, and a generation. Fasting gains understanding of the Father Daniel humbled himself before the Lord. He fasted and prayed for three weeks, and an angel came to him and said, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you have set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them”. (Daniel 10:12) Imagine the reaction of Daniel as he heard those words leave the angels mouth. Did he feel relieved, joyful, or successful? I believe he felt a surge of faith enter his spirit like never before. He interceded and laid down his agenda for a nation and God the Father gave it to him. Fasting takes your relationship with God to new levels. The result of fasting makes your relationship with the father not only deeper and intimate. But makes you realize the little things God does for you that you may over look. Isaiah 58:8-9 says “Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, Your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; You shall cry, and he will say, “Here I am.” As you embark on the fast let that scripture (along with the whole Bible) breath life into you. We must realize that the Master is really right next to you every step of the way.

Let God “fill in the blanks” of your life in this fasting season. He will break chains in your life, guide you through life’s struggles, he will open doors to use you, you will gain a deeper understanding of the Father, and your relationship with him will go to the next level. If you believe in what your doing, God will use what your doing.

Breakdown for Breakthrough Fasting is not a means to promote yourself. The process of a true and un-manipulated fast will actually break down all the stuff that accumulates from this world that blocks you from clear communion with the father. Fasting is like the pipe cleaner you never buy because you keep waiting for the breakthrough in the pipe to take place on its own. Fasting and prayer cleans the pipes of your spirit and soul to provide you with a clear table to commune at with the father. You have to communicate to commune. When you plan your fast you need to schedule specific times for prayer, study, and devotions. Be praying continually, never let the praises of God leave your mouth. Use this time to actually have the prayer life that you wish you had (it’s a great excuse to start that prayer life you always wanted). This brings up the point that when we are fasting and praying. We actually might feel like we are praying “enough”. Just because you are praying more then you are used to does not mean you have arrived in your prayer life. My question is, “Why would you want to feel like your praying enough?” The bible says “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled” (Mathew 5:6) Christ fills us so that we may get hungry again. And in eating we grow in faith. When it comes to prayer we reach a point where we are no longer praying to pray. But we are praying literally dialect with the Father. E.M. Bounds says, “Prayer takes the whole man”. Meaning all your attention, focus, energy, and life needs to be put into prayer. It should be no different in fasting. Even more so should it be, if we have put those delight able doughnuts aside for a set period of time. You will need prayer, you will beg for prayer, and prayer will become the new necessity for your relationship with God. Not the latest book or conference. Authors and conference managers tell about experiences and offer the tools they used to get their breakthrough. I am not bashing conferences and books (I am writing right now), but prayer goes beyond helpful hints and cool flashy videos. Prayer goes (and takes you) to a place of life that can only be experienced through prayer. I encourage you in the fasting period to stretch yourself in your prayer life. That may mean waking up early, or going to bed late, or missing a party. The times I have heard the voice of God the clearest and felt the most breakthrough was when I didn’t want to pray. Paul says “Preach in season, and out of season”. This is a preachers verse, but it is also a prayers’ verse. In season and out of season

Page 26: Stronger

simply means. When its convenient and when it is not convenient. Same rule goes with prayer.

HE is fasting for You Mathew 26:29-30 says, “ I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom”. When you fast you are literally walking out being supernatural. Jesus is fasting for you literally right now. Fasting is a discipline. Western culture and discipline do not ride together. Like fighting children in the backseat they will clash and collide with each other. But the truth is that the devil set up the western culture; a culture that is lazy, empty, religious, and surrenders to higher power. “but we are not a people of fear, but of POWER, LOVE, and SOUND MIND”. God is fasting to get to us, it only makes sense for us to fast to get to him. God puts the ball in our court. We are enabled to receive from God on a whole new level. This allows me to declare from the rooftops EXPECT BIG! Expect lives to be changed, the lost to be saved, blind to see, deaf to hear, lame to walk, dead to rise, prodigals to return home, and the unthinkable. Do not put a limit on what God can do for you, and through you in this fasting season. God wants to do it. I love to give gifts, the best part is the facial expression on the persons face. Express to God before he gives the gift and just watch what he does. He is a great God, who loves you and wants all of you. Start with praising Him and expecting Him to do great things. Picture God sitting on the edge of his throne waiting for the next word of praise or the next prayer to rise up to him. Imagine him shushing all of heaven so all the past saints and angels can hear your cry for Him. Because that is what he is doing when you fast and pray. My heart goes out to you who step through the threshold of fasting, for the first time. Those of you who have been around this mountain before. Don't expect the mundane or the average blessing/breakthrough. Expect doors for your business to open, or opportunities at your school. Maybe the Spirit will tell to you pray for a lady at the mall, or He will tell you to give a certain person a gift. Let me encourage you to ride this “rollercoaster” and release every single day to Jesus. Actually do it. Because you can. I pray this over

Page 27: Stronger

you and your fasting season, and give it to you that God may breath on you whether it’s the 1st, 15th, or 39th day on your fast God will do it. Heavenly father I pray for every single person corporately and individually who is setting time aside to fast, pray, and seek you out. Holy Spirit I pray you will draw so near to them that they would never forget the work in which you did for them. I pray that spiritual gifts would begin to surface in their lives, and they would use it for the Kingdom of God. Oh God give them a consistent, and persevering strength for this season. As temptation comes and trials stand in there way, Father remove them and give them the endurance to finish. Not only to finish, but to finish strong, healthily, and relieved that their sacrifice was for you. We ask for the power to fill our lives daily as we give each day to you. When we don't want to wake up, we will wake up. When we don't want to pray, we will pray. Jesus gives us the same motivation to finish just as you did. Motivate us so that we may go to the next level in you. We recognize that your mercies are new every morning. And we want them every morning. Thank you Father for the breakthrough and the evidence of your spirit today. Amen. “Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven; So when you give to the poor; do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so they will be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. And when you are praying do not use meaningless repetitions as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.

Page 28: Stronger

© Family Life Church January 2010 Page 26

So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. Pray, then, in this way: Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed by Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and glory forever. Amen. For if you forgive others for their transgressions your heavenly father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your father will not forgive your transgressions. Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that men will notice them when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.” (Matt 6:1-18)

PREPARED FOR VISION What is a plan? Defined: Plan is a method devised for making or doing something or achieving an end. The concept of planning in the Bible is all throughout the Old and New Testaments. The term most commonly used for the planning process is Vision. Moving toward 40 days of fasting and prayer. Prepare yourself to hear from God. God may not speak something new to you until you have

completed something He has already spoken to you. What has God said about planning? Why do I need a plan?

• Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off

restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law. (Proverbs 29:18 ESV)

o God is always speaking to us about His plan for

our life. We may not recognize that He is speaking, but He is speaking.

• 21 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 22 “Son of man, what is this proverb that you people have about the land of Israel, which says, ‘The days are prolonged, and every vision fails’? 23 Tell them

Page 30: Stronger

© Family Life Church January 2010 Page 28

therefore, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “I will lay this proverb to rest, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel.” But say to them, “The days are at hand, and the fulfillment of every vision. 24 For no more shall there be any false vision or flattering divination within the house of Israel. 25 For I am the Lord. I speak, and the word which I speak will come to pass; it will no more be postponed; for in your days, O rebellious house, I will say the word and perform it,” says the Lord God.’ ” (Ezekiel 12:21-25)

• At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision: (Daniel 9:23)

• Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come. ” (Daniel 10:14) o A plan for now and later. What we do now

influences what will happen later.

• And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. (Joel 2:28; Acts 2:17)

Page 31: Stronger

© Family Life Church January 2010 Page 29

• 2 Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it. 3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. (Habakkuk 2:2-3)

STRONG IN STANDING AGAINST ATTACK

Family Life Church: Additional Message #2 Pastor Steve Meistrell

God is calling us to stand strong this year in the power of Gods might, against Satan’s attacks and to know his methods of attacks against you as an individual and us as the church. Satan’s Methods of Attack; Ephesians 6:11 “…stand against the wiles of the devil…” Wiles Defined: Greek “methodia.” To follow up and investigate by methods and a settled plan, crafty tricks, and schemes.

• 1 Corinthians 16:9 • 1Thessalonians 2:16 • Matthew 4:1-11 • Matthew 16:23 • 2 Timothy 3:12 • Ephesians 4:14

Page 50: Stronger

48 | P a g e © Family Life Church 2010

Methods of attack against individual Christians:

Maneuvering into a state of rebellion against authority. Twisting truth into partial lies so as to confuse and deceive. Inducing doubt as to who Jesus really is. Creating a negative impression of God. Encouraging skepticism as to the reality of God, to worship creation. Encouraging a humanistic reasoning, causing man to think he is

capable of being his own god and solving his own problems. Sowing the lie that certain state of moral excellence must be obtained

before coming to God. Creating the fearful impression that the cost of turning to God is too

high by claiming there are too desires and pleasures of life which one must hold onto for fulfillment.

Installing fear that one cannot really live the Christian life and by trying to make it too hard through temptations and pressures.

Frustrating and confusing those ungrounded in truth, by presenting many false interpretations of scripture.

By quickly snatching away the preached word of God from our hearts before it takes root.

Keeping people in false peace, allowing or even giving prosperity or security so that we are caught up in the cares of this world.

Methods of attack against Local Church congregations: Galatians 5:7-15

o Creating negative perspectives within key circles of people, thus

causing a spirit of negativism to spread within the church. o Harassing the flock with continual attacks on weak sheep or sheep that

are not under proper spiritual covering or protection.

Page 51: Stronger

49 | P a g e © Family Life Church 2010

o Using the tongue as a tool to cause divisions, discord, though gossip, slander by passing half-truths and evil reports.

o Maneuvering people into positions of relational conflict caused by satanic confusion and carnal deception.

o Attacking key leaders through discouragement and circumstantial pressures so as to remove their influence by default or failure.

o Magnifying little problems within the church causing a spiritual stress which cannot be pinpointed.

o Maneuvering fragmented truth into imbalanced doctrinal emphasis which influences the weaker and newer sheep, thus causing spiritual instability.

o Working against the spiritual vision of the church by sending people into the church that seem to be supportive, but actually are against the vision and continually working to destroy the vision although sometimes they work innocently in total ignorance of what they are doing.

God has called us to be a city set on a hill, a light in a dark place as we are able to recognize and stand against the wiles (methods) of the devil we are than able to dispel darkness. As we enter this year let us take up our armor and be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. We are those who are able to with-stand in the evil day and having done all, to stand victorious as individual, as families, in our businesses, in our callings and as the church that God has called us to be to the Treasure Valley.
