Purpose of Achievement Testing
Achievement tests are only one source of information used to measure academic success.
Their purpose is to: determine if students are learning what they are
expected to learn; report to Albertans how well students have achieved
provincial standards at given points in their schooling; assist schools, jurisdictions, and the province in
monitoring and improving student learning.

*Data for 2013 do not include students who chose to take an exemption from Math 30-1 or 30-2, Chemistry 30, Physics 30 or Science 30 because of extensive flooding in Calgary that June. 2013 results on this measure were not therefore not used by Alberta Education to calculate the Three Year average 2010-11 to 2012-13 on which this evaluation of Declined is based. Data from 2012, which include the full cohort, have therefore been used instead to represent the Previous Year Result.
