he 2008 elected PLAI-STRLC Council Officers were inducted to office last December 7, 2007 at the La Sallete Retreat House, Biga, Silang, and Cavite. The PLAI

President, Ms. Susima L. Gonzales served as inducting officer.

The following were inducted to office that day: Marcial R. Batiancila (Chair), Audrey G. Anday (Vice-Chair), Rene B. Manlangit (Secretary), Freya Faye Perez (BOD), Jhenny P. Encina and Michael John Tolentino (STRLC HOD), Charity R. Mahusay (Chair, NOMELEC), Joyce Pascua and Rowena Andaya (Members, NOMELEC)

Some of the elected officers who were not able to join the December oathtaking were inducted by PLAI-STRLC Chair, Mr. Marcial R. Batiancila during the Council officers' first meeting last January 15, 2008 at the St Thomas of Billanova Libraries, San Sebastian College de Cavite, Sta Cruz, Cavite City. Included in the second batch of inductees were: Rosario A. Villamater (Treasurer), Jenalyn Pancho (Member, NOMELEC), Aurora A. Navela (QLA representative) and Ma. Merconi Fermanejo (CLASS representative).

Moreover, Rosita V. Masangkay (Auditor) and Mary Ann M. Ingua were inducted to office during the Council regular monthly meeting last Feburary 19, 2008 at UP Open University, Los Baños, Laguna and March 18, 2008 at San Pablo Colleges, San Pablo City, Laguna, respectively.

The Philippine Librarians Association, Inc.-Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council (PLAI-STRLC) sponsored a two-day Seminar-Workshop on "Research "Research "Research "Research in Librarianship : in Librarianship : in Librarianship : in Librarianship : Challenges, Competencies, and Strategies"Challenges, Competencies, and Strategies"Challenges, Competencies, and Strategies"Challenges, Competencies, and Strategies" to be held on October 9-10, 2007 at La Vista Pansol Resort, Brgy. Pansol, Calamba City, Laguna.

The seminar-workshop aimed to 1) provide the participants an opportunity to gain greater and deeper knowledge on the principles, methods, techniques and other major issues involved in research; 2) enhance librarians' competencies and skills in research; and 3) broaden perspectives and encourage proactive involvement in conducting research. The Cavite Librarians Association, Inc. (CLASS) organized its annual seminar last December 5-7, 2007 at the La Sallete Retreat House, Biga, Silang, Cavite. The theme of the seminar is “The New Face of the 21st Century Libraries and “The New Face of the 21st Century Libraries and “The New Face of the 21st Century Libraries and “The New Face of the 21st Century Libraries and Information Specialists”.Information Specialists”.Information Specialists”.Information Specialists”.

The three-day seminar aimed to enhance the library personnel's analytical ability, communication skills, intellectual curiosity and service orientation on the current trends and practices in the library world. Board for Librarians Chair Corazon Nera gave the keynote address while the other speakers who shared their expertise and gave great ideas and new knowledge include Fe Angela Verzosa (former De La Salle Archivist), Rosario Florido (PLDT HRD Consulant ), Roderick Ramos (PNU Reference & Serials Librarian, Betty Puzon (Faculty, DLSU-Dasmariñas), Fe Abelardo (Chief Reference Division of TNL), Edgardo Quiros (Head IT Division of TNL), Jocelyn Balangue (Head Acquisitions Section, DLSU-Manila). Most of the participants came from the Cavite Province with one participant from Benguet and Laguna.

The Association of Laguna Librarians (ALL) will hold an on-the-spot logo making competition dubbed as "Likha"Likha"Likha"Likha----Dunong" Dunong" Dunong" Dunong" wherein artistically smart students from some Laguna schools will showcase their talents and skills on June 20, 2008 Friday, at 1:00 pm, at the University of the Philippines Los Baños Main Library.

The concept of organizing LIKHA-DUNONG is rooted in the Association of Laguna Librarians’ noble advocacy to promote Information Literacy to the community it represents, particularly to the young generation of today. As information professionals, the Association commits itself to encourage every young learner to value this vital skill more than ever, in this age when the need for information that is properly obtained, assessed, and applied, is already considered a requisite for survival.

LIKHA, which means “a creation” and DUNONG, that refers to karunungan or knowledge, stands to our aim to find out how the participants would interpret their understanding of information literacy after joining the forum. The desired output is to come up with an artwork, specifically a logo that would symbolize the significance of being an information-literate member of the society nowadays. Likha-Dunong is the Association’s first endeavor to promote awareness of this skill since it has chosen information literacy as its main area of interest this year.

The Philippine Librarian's Association Inc. - Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council (PLAI-STRLC) organized a forum for all librarians, information specialists and library support staff entitled "Continuing Professional Education for Continuing Professional Education for Continuing Professional Education for Continuing Professional Education for LibrariansLibrariansLibrariansLibrarians" last 18 April 2007 at Lyceum of Batangas Le Cafe, Capitol Site, Batangas City. The resource speaker was Prof. Corazon M. Nera, PRC Board for Librarians Chair and Director of Libraries, Lyceum of the Philippines University.

The guest speaker will be Mr. Arnold Capuloy, Director for Linkages and International Relations of De La Salle Lipa.

o commemorate the 4th year anniversary of the PLAI – Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council (PLAI-STRLC) on July 27, 2008, the STRLC Officers during its

meeting last March 18, 2008, agreed to launch another raffle for a cause activity. Since the first raffle for a cause endeavor was a success and was able to donate substantial amount to the outreach program recipients: PLAI- Bicol Region Librarians Council (PLAI-BRLC), Cavite Provincial Library and PLAI- National Office, it is a noble act to continue the project.
