Lessons from the MDG Implementation

1. The attainment of the MDGs require a sustained and consistent commitment across all stakeholders: government, private sector, civil society, and the international community2. The implementation should include a financing plan

3. The implementation plan should include programs to build resilience, especially of the poor and near poor, against natural and man-made hazards and economic shocks4. There should be a clear assignment of responsibilities consistent with the governance structure

5. There should be an appropriate data monitoring system to support the accountability mechanism

Stakeholder EngagementVNR Checklist Institutional Arrangement

✓ Contact relevant government departments (line ministries) and agencies, setting out basic details, e.g. about the VNR, the information/data requested, and establishment of a focal point.

✓ Develop a stakeholder engagement plan which identifies key stakeholders, and method of engagement (consider offline and online options).

✓ Establish awareness-raising and public outreach component to disseminate avenues for stakeholder engagement in the VNR process, making use of government communication services, social media, etc.

✓ Make sure targeted efforts are made to reach groups that are marginalised and at risk of being left behind.

✓ Establishment of a coordination mechanism at national and subnational levels through the DBCC Sub-Committee on SDGs and TWGs comprising of focals from different government agencies

✓ Proposed establishment of Stakeholder Chamber and active email address/contact ([email protected])

✓ Promotion of government programs, activities and projects that contribute to SDGs through the SDG website; organizing of events which can be shared via Facebook/Youtube

• An organized way of collecting, processing, and validating data and information at the local level and use such data in sub-national level planning and program implementation.

• Tool intended for improved governance and greater transparency and accountability in resource allocation.
