Decision-making is a central part ofleadership. Even when a leader uses alaissez-faire leadership style, the leaderremains responsible for making manydecisions such as the nature of the goalsthat followers should pursue and the typeof leadership style that is appropriate forthe situation.

Followers often look to leaders tomake decisions, particularly if they havedifficulty with envisioning the specifictasks that are required to achieve a goal.Because of the importance of decisionmaking to leadership, you should under-stand how to approach decision-making.

To make better decisions, you shouldunderstand that decision-making is aprocess involving a sequential series ofsteps that are often considered part of thecritical thinking process.

These steps are: (a) identifying theproblem, (b) analyzing the possible solu-tions to the problem, (c) evaluating whichof the possible solutions will be mosteffective, and (d) selecting and imple-menting the solution.

These steps give you a structuredframework to improve the quality of yourdecisions. The first three steps focus oncollecting information that is useful whenmaking a decision. The way leaders asdecision makers collect the informationoften depends on their leadership style andthe situation.

For example, the autocratic leadermay be comfortable with personally col-lecting the information, while a participa-tive leader may be comfortable relying onthe information provided by others.

Identifying a problem requires thatyou understand that a problem exists andthat you recognize the root cause of theproblem. While it is often easy to recog-nize the symptoms of a problem, the actual

cause of the problem may not be immedi-ately apparent. As a result, a good leadercarefully evaluates the nature of the prob-lem before considering the possible solu-tions.

All problems have more than one pos-sible solution. Effective decision-makingrequires identifying the range of possiblesolutions that address the root cause of theproblem.

The analysis determines the way eachof the possible solutions will affect theproblem. The analysis should also consid-er the effect of the possible solution on the

processes or systems used by an organiza-tion based on the assumption that a changeto fix one part of a system may cause anew problem with another part of the sys-

tem. At the same time, the leader mustremain aware that decisions have a directeffect on followers when evaluating possi-ble alternatives.

With less than three years beforePresident Barack Obama completeshis eight-year in office, the son of an immi-grant himself is on a mad rush to reformAmerican immigration policy.

Under Obamas presidency, US immi-gration laws remain unchanged with theexception of an executive order aimed atprotecting Dreamers people who cameto the United States illegally as young chil-dren from deportation.

But, during the same period, Obamawas on track to owning the distinction ofbeing the president who deported the mostillegal immigrants. Based on a Departmentof Homeland Security data report from lastyear, the Obama administration carried outroughly 1.8 million removals during thesame period through September 7, 2013.That's less than George W. Bush's overalltotal of a shade more than 2 million. Buteven conservative estimates of the numberof deportations in fiscal year 2014 would

have Obama crossing that mark right aboutnow and on pace to crush it by the end of hispresidency.

While Republicans were not willing tocooperate with Democrats to reform immi-gration, Obama was far too slow in fixingimmigration as he promised during hiselection campaign. In the first two-years ofObamas presidency, the Democrats were incontrol of both the Senate and the House, yet nothing was done for his fellow immi-grants.

The Obama administration has beenknown to be very tough on immigrants.Several thousand, including hardworkingpeople from our communities, were roundedup and deported for overstaying their visi-tors visa.

They did not have any drug or criminaloffenses and were not allowed to see a judgein keeping with American laws.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasioand other Democrats, realizing that they

blundered and were unkind to immigrants, are now catching up by implementing newstate policies that would drastically limit thefederal governments ability to deportundocumented immigrants, Caribbean andotherwise, in New York City.

In our opinions, Obama and otherDemocratic leaders should show morerespect for the issues affecting immigrants, including those from the Caribbean, whoalways vote overwhelmingly for the party. The Republicans did not allow Obama tochange or fix immigration, but the presi-dents own actions or discretions with theold laws which resulted in the White Househaving the highest number of our peoplebeing deported, must be closely examined.

President Obama was late and theRepublicans were playing politics. Perhapsits the American way of telling Congressand the House that both parties must unite tofix immigration.

Continued on page 4Despite the unlawful foreclo-sure, Gordon said JudgeFriedlander approved the actionwithout any documents in therecord establishing standing forWells Fargo.

That is to say, there was noassignment of mortgage in thecase file and one was not filed inthe City Register until six monthsafter a judgment of foreclosurewas signed by the judge, Gordonexplained. The foreclosure wasfiled and executed with no assign-ment in the exhibits.

After a ten-year battle,Gordon said he got his deedrestored from the Referee's Deedto a Corrected Index Deed and aNullification of the Assignment ofMortgage, by invoking NY PL175.35 offering a false instrumentfor filing, on November 4, 2013,as the ACRIS record shows.

However, Gordon said justwhen he thought his issue with thebank was over, he received ashocker on Feb. 28: a five-dayeviction notice, supported by aWrit of Assistance and signed bythe Judge Friedlander dated inback in 2011, was posted on hishome.

Gordon said the commentson the property were changed inthe City Register without a courtorder. The tampering of his landrecords, he said, validated the for-gery and negated the correctionGordon had received some fourmonths earlier.

An outraged Gordon said thaton March 6, 2014, Joseph Fucitoof the New York City Sheriffevicted him from his home with-out notice and with the threat ofbodily harm, accompanied by

offensive racial epithets. In addi-tion to this reckless action, theSheriffs seized an adjacentlot/garage, 1048 East 226th Street, that was not a part of the foreclo-sure action, Gordon said.

Gordon said that with limit-ed legal assistance, he researchedhis rights under the claim ofright statute and re-took physicalpossession of his property becausethere is no valid document thatWells Fargo lawyers can presentto challenge my claim.

The angry homeownerGordon suggests that anyone pur-suing a claim for adverse posses-sion must assert that he or she isacting under a "Claim of Right,"essentially a claim of ownership.A claimant seeking to acquire titleby adverse possession has to havea reasonable basis to believe thatthe property (already) belongs tohim or her, he suggests.

Gordon said he is taking fur-ther legal actions against the bank, the attorneys, the judge and theNew York City Sheriff for thelosses and inconveniences heendured during the period that hisproperties was illegally seized anddisposed. He will now seek a deedrestoration under the DeedProcured by Fraud statute in anexpedited special proceeding.

As Economic DivisionChairman of the Bronx Chapter ofNational Action Network, Gordonsaid he would be using the organ-ization to educate and inform thepublic, especially AfricanAmericans, on protecting theirproperties from illegal foreclo-sures and deceptive attorneys.

    Doctor FoundGuilty FraudScheme

    BROOKLYN:

Authorities announced that a Brooklyn,New York-based doctor has beenfound guilty in a no-fault insurance fraudscheme following a two-week jury trial.

According to a statement recentlyfrom Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney forthe Southern District of New York,Tatyana Gabinskaya was found guilty onOct. 3 of various health care fraud and mailfraud offenses.

The jury convicted Gabinskaya ofcharges arising out of her involvement, from 2007 through 2012, in what has beendescribed by authorities as the largest sin-gle no-fault automobile insurance fraudscheme ever charged.

Gabinskaya is the 32nd defendantconvicted in this case following arrests in2012, as part of an indictment that charged36 defendants with conspiracy to commitmail fraud and health care fraud and charg-ing some defendants with racketeering andmoney laundering.

Under New York state law, everyvehicle registered in the state is required tohave no-fault auto insurance, which allowsthe driver and passengers of a registeredand insured vehicle to obtain benefits of upto $50,000 per person for injuries sus-tained in an auto accident, regardless offault.

With President Barack Obama vowingto proceed on immigration reform byexecutive order, New York City Mayor Billde Blasio signed two bills that would drasti-cally limit the federal governments abilityto deport undocumented Caribbean andother immigrants from New York City.

Under one of the new laws signed Nov.14, the city will, in many cases, refuse tohand over immigrants in the criminal justicesystem to federal agents. In the past, thecity sometimes had to turn over peoplewhose cases had been dismissed or who hadbeen arrested on minor charges, the mayorsaid.

Now, it said the city will only cooperatewith US Immigration and CustomsEnforcement (ICE) if the agency has a feder-al warrant, or if the person has been convict-ed of a serious crime or is on a terror watchlist.

A significant number of Caribbeannationals had been deported after commit-ting minor infractions, including traffic vio-lations, according to an analysis of internalUnited States government records sincePresident Barack Obama assumed office.

The figures showed that two-thirds ofthe nearly two million deportation casesinvolve Caribbean and other immigrants.

The study conducted by the New YorkTimes found that 20 per cent, or about394,000 of the cases involved immigrantsconvicted of serious crimes, including drug-related offenses.

Another bill gets rid of ICE from itsoffices on Rikers Island jail in Queens. Were signing legislation that will have areally meaningful effect on the lives ofimmigrants, said de Blasio, as he signed thebill, flanked by City Legislators and CarlosRodriguez, who was mistakenly arrested fortrespassing and detained by federal lawenforcement authorities for eight monthseven though the charges were dropped.

Rodriquez is still fighting deportation tothe Dominican Republic. Even though itdoesnt help me right now, I know it helpssomebody else out there, Rodriquez said.

The city of Doha in Qatar on Tuesdaywon the right to host the 2019 IAAFWorld Championships.

In the vote by the IAAF Council inMonaco, Doha was selected ahead of theSpanish city of Barcelona and Eugene,Oregon in the United States.

"I am sure that in Doha we will havea wonderful edition of the WorldChampionships. I am convinced they arecommitted through sport to developingtheir country and their community, andthey are doing the right things,'" saidIAAF President Lamine Diack, inresponse to the outcome.

Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman AlThani, the Doha bid leader, was verypleased with the outcome, adding that itwas a privilege and an honour to havethe trust of the IAAF.

The 2015 edition of the WorldChampionships will be hosted by Beijing, from August 22-30, followed in 2017 byLondon, from August 5-13.

Disgraced former FIFA vice-president,Jack Warner, continues to feature neg-atively in relation to the bidding processthat saw the 2018 and 2022 World Cupsbeing awarded to Russia and Qatar, respec-tively.

FIFA has announced that, following areview of a 42-page report by head judgeHans-Joachim Eckert, Russia and Qatarwill retain their right to host the WorldCup, since there was insufficient evidenceto implicate them in any wrongdoing.

However, FIFA investigator MichaelGarcia has threatened to appeal the ruling, claiming that the report contains numerousmaterially incomplete and erroneous repre-sentations of facts and conclusions.

Garcia said Eckert's 42-page docu-ment instead focused heavily on the con-duct of the nine bid teams, includingembarrassing details of England 2018'sattempts to woo Warner which "violatedbidding rules" and included securing a jobin the UK for a family friend of the contro-versial football figure.

It is understood Garcia made criti-cisms in his report about the culture andpractices of many of the 24-man FIFA exec-utive committee that chose the World Cuphosts, which he claims were excluded fromEckert's summary.

    MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica:

Jamaica were crowned champions of theCaribbean Football Union Caribbean Cupafter outscoring Trinidad and Tobago 4-3 onpenalties in front of a vociferous homecrowd at the Montego Bay Sports Complex ashort while ago.

After neither team was able to find thetarget during 90 minutes of regulation plus30 minutes of extra time, goalkeeper AndreBlake gave Jamaica the ideal start in theshoot-out when he saved the penalty ofTrinidad and Tobago captain KenwyneJones.

Jermaine Taylor, Jobi McAnuff, DemarPhillips and captain Rodolph Austin, whowas named man-of-the-match, were on tar-get for the Reggae Boyz, who were winningtheir sixth title. Teenager Michael Seatonwas the only Jamaican player to miss from12 yards.

It was a courageous effort from theBoyz, who were the better team for much ofthe game, as they created the better scoringopportunities, but just couldn't find the tar-get.

It was Jamaica's first win since liftingthe trophy under the guidance of coachTheodore Whitmore in Martinique in 2010.The Boyz have now qualified for the eagerlyanticipated special edition of the CopaAmerica Centenario, which is the 100thanniversary of the South AmericanChampionships. Under a special arrange-ment, six teams from CONCACAF plus the10 South American nations will participate.

The Boyz had earlier qualified for nextsummer's CONCACAF Gold Cup, and afterplummeting down the FIFA rankings to113th, their gutsy performance proved theideal response, giving German coachWinfried Schaefer his first title since beingappointed head coach.

Imagine the good fortune of a New York-based Jamaican reggae artist wholearned one day recently that a song he hadreleased four years ago and had almost for-gotten about has been picked up by anaward-winning film maker, playwright andnovelist and placed on an American televi-sion pilot.

This is exactly what happened toBrooklyn-based reggae DJ Kabbalist whodiscovered after the fact that his song,'Catwalk' that was produced by high profileproducer Mark The 45 King was used inthe Nina Foxx network pilot "She's Got 'IsShoes". The pilot pokes fun at Foxx's insa-tiable passion for shoes and the pulsatingreggae beat provides a backdrop for herquest to start her own shoe line with thehelp of her daughter Sydney from ABC's"Flash Forward" alongside a number ofcelebrity friends. The pilot was featured atthe San Diego Black Film Festival, won anaward of merit at The Accolade and wasselected as the best reality short film atAtlanta's Urban Media Makers FilmFestival.

Kabbalist who is originally from OldHarbour, is no stranger to the limelight, having enjoyed previous success with hipatriotic single 'Down In Jamaica'. He hasalso enjoyed stateside and Jamaica radiorotation with another single 'Rude Boy', buthe expects that this new visibility will opensome productive doors for career growth.

Catwalk' made its way to the televi-sion pilot because Kabbalist gave the songto James Elan, a music industry attorney, asking him to shop the record for possibledistribution deals. But with no takers afterabout a year, the artist forgot about thesong and moved on. So it was quite a sur-prise when the good news was brought tohis attention.

"I am thrilled that Nina Foxx heard mysong and found it exciting enough to use itin her movie", Kabbalist beamed. "Thesong is creating new opportunities for mefour years after it was first released, andthis goes to show that a good song neverdies", he continued.

Kabbalist is currently in Jamaica andhe plans to do a remix of 'Catwalk' there tocapitalize on the resurgence of the single. He also plans to shoot a video clip for'Catwalk' early in the new year.

In the face of President Obama's call forthe FCC to adopt fresh legislation toprotect net neutrality, FCC Chairman TomWheeler has reminded the leader politelythat the agency works for Congress, notthe White House.

The Federal CommunicationsCommission (FCC) has found itself at theheart of a discussion on what is deemednet neutrality -- the principle of treating allInternet traffic the same way.

The US communications regulator iscurrently thrashing out a new set of netneutrality rules, but the current proposalwould allow for telecommunications andbroadband providers to charge contentproviders, such as Netflix, for priorityInternet fast-lanes. If content providersrefused to pay additional rates, theoreti-cally, this could result in throttled speedsfor US subscribers -- or ISPs which pro-duce their own content could slow downrivals in a bid to promote their own serv-ices.

The proposal drew mass protest and ahigh volume of comments by the public, which resulted in the US watchdog delay-ing a change in regulations for now.

This week, President Obama cameout in support of net neutrality, as hebelieves Internet services should bereclassified as a utility and somethingAmericans have a right to. Therefore,Obama does not support any plans whichwould result in throttling, blocking or paidpriority lanes of traffic.

Obama's statement read: "The timehas come for the FCC to recognize thatbroadband service is of the same impor-tance and must carry the same obligationsas so many of the other vital services do.

Thanksgiving Day in the United States istraditionally a holiday to give thanks forthe food collected at the end of the harvestseason. Thanksgiving Day in the UnitedStates is a holiday on the fourth Thursday ofNovember. It precedes Black Friday.

Thanksgiving DayThanksgiving Day is a federal holiday in theUnited States.

What do people do?Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a day forfamilies and friends to get together for a spe-cial meal. The meal often includes a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, pumpkin pie, and vegetables. ThanksgivingDay is a time for many people to give thanksfor what they have. Thanksgiving Dayparades are held in some cities and towns onor around Thanksgiving Day. Some paradesor festivities also mark the opening of theChristmas shopping season. Some peoplehave a four-day weekend so it is a populartime for trips and to visit family and friends.

Public lifeMost government offices, businesses, schools and other organizations are closedon Thanksgiving Day. Many offices andbusinesses allow staff to have a four-dayweekend so these offices and businesses arealso closed on the Friday after ThanksgivingDay. Public transit systems do not usuallyoperate on their regular timetables.

Thanksgiving Day it is one of thebusiest periods for travel in the USA. Thiscan cause congestion and overcrowding.Seasonal parades and busy football gamescan cause disruption to local traffic.

BackgroundThanksgiving Day has been an annual holi-day in the United States since 1863. Noteveryone sees Thanksgiving Day as a causefor celebration. Each year since 1970, agroup of Native Americans and their sup-porters have staged a protest for a NationalDay of Mourning at Plymouth Rock inPlymouth, Massachusetts on ThanksgivingDay. American Indian Heritage Day is alsoobserved at this time of the year.

There are claims that the firstThanksgiving Day was held in the city of ElPaso, Texas in 1598. Another early eventwas held in 1619 in the Virginia Colony. Many people trace the origins of the modernThanksgiving Day to the harvest celebrationthat the Pilgrims held in Plymouth,Massachusetts in 1621. However, their firsttrue thanksgiving was in 1623, when theygave thanks for rain that ended a drought. These early thanksgivings took the form of aspecial church service, rather than a feast.

In the second half of the 1600s, thanks-givings after the harvest became more com-mon and started to become annual events. However, it was celebrated on different daysin different communities and in some placesthere were more than one thanksgiving each

Oven roasted turkey, common fare for Christmas and Thanksgiving celebrations.

Follow these tips so you can enjoy holi-day favorites without feeling like youneed to roll home by the end of the evening.

Strategy #1: Come Hungry, Not Starving.Arrive at your first feast famished and youllprobably end up over-stuffing yourself.Youll feel tired (turkey coma?) and caneven end up with heartburn.

Strategy #2: Enjoy the Conversation.Instead of shoveling food with lighteningspeed, put down the fork and enjoy chatting

Strategy #3: Choose WiselyThere are usually several favorites you lookforward to each year. Instead of filling up oneveryday foods (like bread), select smallportions of 2 to 3 dishes that make the holi-day special for you.

Strategy #4: Liquids MatterVirgin drinks or alcoholic cocktails: they allcount. Guzzling down apple cider, hotcocoa, beer or mixed drinks can put a caloriedent in your day and quickly fill you up.Instead, opt for water and save a specialdrink or two for your last stop.

    LIFE STYLE

    Dear Divine Diva:

Imet a guy four months ago. Our rela-tionship is new and pretty casual forthe most part. We like each other's com-pany and spend nights together, butwhen we're intimate, he keeps hisclothes on -- boxers and all. He is only26, but he has told me about past rela-tionships, so I know he has had experi-ence.

Over the past two years he has lostalmost 100 pounds. He looks great now--healthy and toned. I have seen him getin and out of the shower. (I noticed a lit-tle excess skin on his stomach, but not

much.) It's really weird. I don't feelcomfortable taking my own clothes offwhen he doesn't.

This isn't exactly a deal breaker forme, as I obviously am attracted to him.

I just would like him to be comfortablewith me. Should I address this withhim, and if so, how? Or should I justleave it be for now?

    -Awkward Situation, Bx

Dear Awkward: It's apparent that he still has body issueshaving to do with his extreme weightloss. If you know him well enough tospend nights at his house, you shouldbe able to communicate with him aboutsex on a mature level and tell him theexperience would be more satisfyingfor you if there was less between youwhen you are in his arms.

The holidays are the hardest time ofyear to eat right. Luckily, aThanksgiving turkey means youll be eat-ing lean white meat, which is a great starttoward healthier eating. Find out what elseyou can do to enjoy your meal withoutincreasing your waistline and cholesterol.

Eat Before DinnerDont deprive yourself before yourThanksgiving dinner. Eat a hearty break-fast and lunch complete with in-betweensnacks throughout the day. If you show upat dinner starving, you'll be more likely toovereat and your body will have a hardertime digesting the heavy meal.

Eat Plenty of VegetablesBefore reaching for turkey and potatoes, fill two-thirds of your plate with vegeta-bles of all colours. Healthy veggies willfill you up and keep you from indulging inunhealthy food.

Drink Lots of WaterDrink plenty of water before and duringyour meal. Not only does your mind ofteninterpret thirst as hunger, but water willhelp your stomach stay full and keep youfrom overeating. Plus, you wont pack onany of the additional calories soft drinksand other beverages can add to your meal.

Limit SweetsAim for a teaspoon or two of cranberrysauce instead of drowning your turkey init. This yummy treat is high in sugar soyou should eat it in moderation. When it comes to dessert, you dont haveto avoid it altogether. If youve eaten ahealthy meal, you can indulge yourself ina sliver of pie or small portion of icecream. If youre still craving more, contin-ue eating fruit to satisfy your sweet toothin a healthier way.

Leave the Dinner Table After EatingOnce youre done eating, leave the table. The entire dinner party should move toanother room to chat and spend timetogether. Hanging out around the tablemay tempt you to snack on some leftovers.

    Why do we have them?

    1. Lack of Primary FoodFood is more than what you find on yourplate. Emotional factors (stress, boredom, being uninspired by a job or relationship)or an inappropriate exercise routine mayall cause emotional eating.

    2. Water IntakeBalanced intake is the key. Dehydrationcan manifest as a mild hunger. Excesswater, can also cause cravings due to elec-trolyte and mineral imbalance. Eight toten cups is the average daily need for anadult.

    3. Culture or habitWe often crave foods that have someemotional meaning attached to them.Foods from our childhood. Foods we cul-turally eat on special occasions. Foods thatare representative of what we understandas Happiness, tend to be craved when wefeel less happy.

    4. Body is out of balanceWhen there is imbalance in the body, itwill produce odd cravings. Inadequatemineral levels produces salt cravings.Lack of sleep and or high levels of stressproduces cravings for quick fixes sourceof energy such as sugar and sugary foods.Winter blues, low spirits promote cravingsfor high carb content foods.

    5. HormonesThough more common in women, due toour reproductive cycle, men can also suf-fer from fluctuating testosterone andestrogen levels that may cause uniquecravings. Stress is a big trigger for thesehormonal fluctuations, especially later inlife.

    6. Self-Sabotage SyndromeAllowing for steep blood sugar drops dur-ing weight loss diet programs is oneexample of that. The lack of balance mayresult in strong mood swings which inturn creates more cravings in an attempt tobring back the bodys balance.
