Executive Summary

This Strategic Plan describes our current Vision, Mission, Core Values, Key Results Areas, Outcomes, Broad Strategies and

planned Timelines for Surfing Tasmania (ST) for the 2016– 2019 strategic period.

This document has been developed after consultation and input from a broad cross section of key stakeholders. Input

has been received through a number of means including;

Individual consultation with key stakeholders

Member feedback

Officials/Volunteer feedback

Since re-incorporating in 2002 and specifically since FULL RESTRUCTURING BY Surfing Australia in 2011, a large amount of

work has been done to improve the Leadership / Governance, Management, Operations and Sport Development

activities of Surfing Tasmania. We continue to strive to be proactive and innovative to ensure that:

All ST Members and affiliated Boardrider Clubs, Surf Schools receive the best possible opportunities and support;

We improve all areas as a State Sporting Organisation: participation, membership, education, communication,

marketing, events and support the issues of the broader surfing community

ST becomes a sustainable entity which can support its operations and future goals

Our Vision

Our vision is to develop and deliver opportunities and services to the community to foster participation, enjoyment and

positive recreational experiences through surfboard riding.

Our Mission

Surfing Tasmania, as the state peak body, will provide quality services to its surfboard, long board, kneeboard, body

board and Stand Up Paddle Board membership. Surfing Tasmania will maximise entry-level opportunities and foster

ongoing participation in surf riding. Surfing Tasmania will develop surf riding leaders, officials, infrastructure, clubs and

volunteers, and coordinate the delivery of surf riding services to all levels of our community whether recreational or

competitive. Surfing Tasmania will continue to provide State-wide competition opportunities for members, at grass roots

level, through affiliated boardrider clubs as well as providing a pathway to State and National competitions.

Our Future Surfing Tasmania (ST) has made strong progress since restructuring in 2011.We are continuing to grow and develop with the careful

management and implementation of our 2016-2019 strategic plan. Positive progress will be achieved in the areas indicated. We have in a tangible way assisted Surfing to develop and expand within the State. Tasmania offers further growth potential with its variety of surf locations and growing coastal population we can be very optimistic about our future. In particular, the improvements we can make to offer a better product and service to our stakeholders and to sustainably grow surfing as a sport and recreation, and Surfing Tasmania Inc as an State Sporting Organisation (SSO).

The 2016 – 2019 ST Strategic Plan aims to build on the work done by many people over many years. The plan outlines various Key

Performance Areas, Outcomes, Broad Strategies and associated timelines that will guide ST to deliver on its aims and strengthen its position as a gatekeeper of this iconic sport.

ST acknowledges the need for all stakeholders to work together in order to bring this plan into reality, and therefore partnerships are a key

focus of this plan. ST will be working closely with all key stakeholder groups to ensure the organisation achieves its potential over the coming three years and beyond.

ST’s operations between 2016 and 2019 will now be guided by this document. This will allow progress to be monitored, as well as ensuring

the currency and relevance of its directions.
