Activating Space Time Interference Rejection Combin-ing

1 Activating Space Time Interference Rejection CombiningSpace Time Interference Rejection Combining (STIRC) is an enhancement to Interfer-ence Rejection Combining (IRC) that is implemented in UltraSite, MetroSite, and Flexi EDGE BTSs. STIRC enhances the uplink performance by improving the interference rejection capability of the BTS.

STIRC is a licence-based application software product. Its use is controlled by a capacity licence, based on the number of STIRC-activated TRXs in the BSC. When STIRC is activated in a BTS object, it replaces IRC in all TRXs in the BTS object. All TRXs in a STIRC enabled BTS object must be STIRC-cabable.

For a description of STIRC, see Space Time Interference Rejection Combining System Feature Description under Feature descriptions/Radio network performance in the PDF view.

Before you startMake sure that the following are in order before you activate STIRC:

• The STIRC licence is installed. • The feature state of STIRC is ON. • The used BTS site type is UltraSite BTS with software release CX5 or later, Met-

roSite BTS with software release CXM5 or later, or Flexi EDGE BTS with software release EP1.1 or later.

• All TRXs in STRIC-enabled BTS object support STIRC.

You can activate STIRC on a Flexi EDGE BTS or an EDGE-capable UltraSite or Met-roSite BTS. You can also activate STIRC on an UltraSite BTS with TRXs that use the BB2E/BB2F EDGE baseband board with a non-EDGE RFU (TSxA) unit.

Steps

1 Check the hardware state of the BTS (EEI).ZEEI:BTS=<bts_id>;

In a MetroSite BTS, all TRXs must be EDGE TRXs for a STIRC enabled sector.

In a UltraSite BTS, EDGE TRXs and TRXs with BB2E/BB2F baseband board and non-EDGE RFU (TSxA) unit support STIRC. TRXs with BB2A baseband board and non-EDGE RFU (TSxA) unit do not support STIRC. You can check the hardware of the BTS from the hardware database using BTS MMI.

2 Check that the licence that covers STIRC has been installed (W7I).ZW7I:LIC,FULL:LIC=<licence code>;

For instructions on installing licences, see Licensing in BSC under Install and Upgrade/Software in the PDF view.

3 Check the value of the STIRC feature state (W7I).ZW7I:FEA,FULL:FEA=393;

4 If necessary, change the STIRC feature state to ON.ZW7M:FEA=393:ON;

5 Check that the STIRC feature state change succeeded (W7I).ZW7I:FEA,FULL:FEA=393;

6 Change the value of the STIRC enabled parameter of the STIRC-enabled BTS object to Y (EQM).ZEQM:BTS=<bts_id>:STIRC=Y;

7 Check that the value change succeeded (EQO).ZEQO:BTS=<bts_id>:MIS;

If you enable STIRC before the BCF/BTS object is unlocked, and all unlocked TRXs are not STIRC capable, alarm 7606 is raised and the TRX is set to blocked (BL) state.

Expected outcomeThe value of the STIRC enabled parameter is Y and alarm 7606 is not active.

Unexpected outcomeAlarm 7606 with fault reason "Non EDGE TRX device type used accidentally in EDGE capable mode" is set active and the TRX is set to blocked (BL) state. To proceed, do the following:

1. Deactivate STIRC in the BTS.

2. Check that the BTS hardware supports STIRC.

Deactivating Space Time Interference Rejection Com-bining

2 Deactivating Space Time Interference Rejec-tion CombiningWhen Space Time Interference Rejection Combining (STIRC) is deactivated, Interfer-ence Rejection Combining (IRC) replaces STIRC in all TRXs in the BTS object.

For a description of STIRC, see Space Time Interference Rejection Combining System Feature Description under Feature descriptions/Radio network performance in the PDF view.

Steps

1 Change the value of the STIRC enabled parameter of the BTS object to N (EQM).ZEQM:BTS=<bts_id>:STIRC=N;

2 Check that the value change succeeded (EQO).ZEQO:BTS=<bts_id>:MIS;

3 Change the feature state to OFF (W7M).ZW7M:FEA=393:OFF;

Expected outcomeSTIRC is deactivated. The STIRC enabled parameter is no longer available.
