2022 Mass Book

Starting on Friday, October 22nd, Corpus Christi Church will open its “Mass Intention” book for the New Year 2022. If you wish to have Masses offered for your deceased loved ones, particularly on those special dates such as anniversaries and birthdays, please bring your requests to the Parish Office beginning on October 22nd or any following day. We will try to accommodate all of your intentions.

The suggested Mass offering is $20. It would be very helpful if you could bring a written list of names and dates with you.

1. Only two intentions per year for the 10:00 AM Sunday Mass. 2. Only one family name per intention. 3. No more than eight masses per any one family. 4. No masses can be booked via telephone. 5. When the book opens, no more than one Mass in any particular week may be

requested for the same intention.

Catholic Lawyers Mass

ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY

There is no meeting in September. Our first meeting will be on Monday, October 18 in the Fitzgerald Room. We meet on the Monday after the 3rd Sunday of each month.

Coffee, tea and cakes will be served at 6:30 PM. We will prayer the Rosary at 7 PM. A brief business meeting will follow the Rosary.

Our president, Anne Gallagher, on behalf of the members of the Rosary Altar Society, would like to invite the ladies of Corpus Christi Church to join us at our monthly meeting. In these difficult times, the rosary is our strength.

EVANGELIO DE SAN MARCOS 10, 2-12

En aquel tiempo, se acercaron a Jesús unos fariseos y le preguntaron, para ponerlo a prueba: “Le es lícito a un hombre divorciarse de su esposa”? Él les respondió: “Qué les prescribió Moisés”? Ellos contestaron: “Moisés nos permitió el divorcio mediante la entrega de un acta de divorcio a la esposa”. Jesús les dijo: “Moisés prescribió esto, debido a la dureza del corazón de ustedes. Pero desde el principio, al crearlos, Dios los hizo hombre y mujer. Por eso dejará el hombre a su padre y a su madrey se unirá a su esposa y serán los dos una sola cosa. De modo que ya no son dos, sino una sola cosa. Por eso, lo que Dios unió, que no lo separe el hombre”. Ya en casa, los discípulos le volvieron a preguntar sobre el asunto. Jesús les dijo: “Si uno se divorcia de su esposa y se casa con otra, comete adultério contra la primera. Y si ella se divorcia de su marido y se casa con otro, comete adultério”.

La liturgia de la Palabra de est domingo nos da pie para reflexionar sobre el sacramento del Matrimonio a raiz de una discusión provocada por los fariseos con Jesús. El evangelista Marcos la presenta como una prueba a la que lo someten los fariseos para desprestigiar, pues conocía la postura de Jesus contra el divorcio, mientras que, entre los judios casi todos admitian el divorcio, considerado por la ley de Moisés como un derecho del esposo. Desde el punto de partida, tanto Jesús

como los fariseos dan por sentado que el matrimonio se trata de la unión de un hombre con una mujer. Cuando le argumentan que Moisés permitió el divorcio, Jesús no contradise a Moisés, sino que atribuye su permisividad a la dureza del corazón del Pueblo. Pero Jesús defiende su puesto de vista contrario al divorcio como más conforme con la voluntad de Dios. La pregunta que le hacen a Jesús los fariseos en realidade quiere funcionar como pretexto para seguir poniéndolo en prueba. Es que en tiempo de Jesús, el machimso que reinaba era muy grande. No sólo las mujeres no tenían voz, sino que incluso se disutía cuando se podía dejar a una mujer. Jesús pone a mujer en igualdad con el hombre.

El relato de Génesis desde una cultura religiosa de la época nos diseña la aparición de la pareja humana. Es la mano de Dios que lo hace y la que permite un diseño de amor. El hombre no es nada sin la mujer. Dios, logicamente, no ha creado a la mujer del hombre, sino que es una forma de poner de manifiesto que tienen la misma dignidade y mutuamente encuentran en el diálogo, en el afecto, em el amor. Jesús ha querido defender a la mujer y ha proclamado la igualdad essencial del hombre y de la mujer en el plan de Dios. Es lo que vemos en el evangelio de hoy.

EVANGELHO DE SÃO MARCOS 10, 2-12

Naquele tempo, aproximaram-se de Jesus uns fariseus para o porém à prova e perguntaram-lhe: “Pode um homem repudiar a sua mulher”? Jesus respondeu-lhes: “Que vos ordenou Moisés”? Eles responderam: “Moisés permitiu que se passasse um certificado de divórcio para se repudiar a mulher”. Jesus disse-lhes: “Foi por causa da dureza do vosso coração que ele vos deixou essa lei. Mas, no princípio da criação, Deus fê-los homem e mulher. Por isso, o homem deixará pai e mãe para se unir à sua esposa, e os dois serão uma só carne. Deste modo, já não são dois, mas uma só carne. Portanto, não separe o homem o que Deus uniu”. Em casa, os discípulos interrogaram-no de novo sobre este assunto. Jesus disse-lhes então: “Quem repudiar a sua mulher e casar com outra, comete adultério contra a primeira. E se a mulher repudiar o seu marido e casar com outro, comete adultério”.

O Antigo Testamento contempla a possibilidade de contrair um segundo matrimónio. É, pois, estranho que os fariseus façam a Jesus a pergunta: “Pode um homem repudiar a sua mulher”? Os que pertenciam a essa seita, como todos os israelitas sem excepção, nunca tiveram nenhum dúvida quanto a possibilidade do divórcio; o mais que

podiam fazer era discutir sobre os motivos que o poderiam justificar. Respondendo à pergunta que lhe tinha sido feita, Jesus esclarece, antes de mais, o significado autêntico da Lei de Moisés, que ele não tem intenção de abolir, mas explicar. E esta é a explicação de Jesus: Moisés não deu qualquer permissão de divórcio. O divórcio existia antes dele. Ele limitou-se a regulamentar, procurou sanar a situação errada que existia desde tempos imemoriais e que era aceito por todos. Limitou-se a proteger a mulher, estabelecendo normas para que o marido pudesse repudiar a sua esposa. A Lei de Moisés protegia a mulher contra o abuso do marido e o documento de repúdio tornava-a livre. Sem esse documento, se a mulher repudiada pelo marido se se juntasse outra vez a um homem, o ex-marido a podia acusar de adultério, o que significava a pena de morte.

A primeira leitura deste domingo conta a criação do homem e da mulher. Esse trecho do livro do Gênesis tem um ensinamento muito importante: a igualdade de dignidade entre homem e mulher. Se tem a mesma dignidade que o homem, a mulher não pode ser dominada, escravizada, utilizada como instrumento de prazer.
