GREETINGS ROTARIANS AND GUESTS As I approach my early thirties, I find myself wondering what I will leave behind as my legacy. When I joined Rotary five years ago, I never imagined I would be the General Chair of the Multi-District Conference for two districts or President of my club. Thankfully, these things have occurred which provided me the opportunity to collaborate with other clubs and numerous non-profit

organizations. It is through my experiences with Rotary that I have found answers to life’s questions and helped me to create a more focused life goal; to make the world a better place. I am grateful to have met so many inspiring, motivated and supportive people in the five years of my membership. Even so, it was not until I was working with the Multi-District Conference Committee that I truly realized how strongly each and every person in this organization shares the inherent passion of community service and the desire to be a force for good. The Committee put together a program that carries this theme throughout the entire conference. Please remember to attend the breakout sessions, to visit the House of Friendship to view all the wonderful service projects, fundraisers and resources available in Districts 7950 and 7890. This is the grassroots where future collaborations and projects are born. I also encourage you to take time to network and speak with members from different clubs. If you are shy about meeting new people, remember, we all have one thing in common: the desire to make the world a better place. I wish to personally recognize and thank the members of the Multi-District Conference Committee for all the hard work, time and perseverance that went into making this conference a success. Thank you to the speakers and the VTT Team enriching our program. A BIG THANK YOU to Hotel 1620 and all the staff that ensures the conference is running smoothly. Thank you to District Governors Steve Certa and Dave Mangs for your constant support throughout the conference planning. Lastly, I challenge you to find something at this conference. Learn about a project, find a new way of recruiting members, develop a partnership with another club on a grant or take your club’s project to the next level. This conference exists to empower you to bring something back to your club, and hopefully make a meaningful impact on the world. Through it all, do not forget to have FUN. This conference is a celebration of all YOUR achievements for this past year and I hope you use what you take away from this weekend to add to your own Rotary legacy.Tarah Warner, Conference ChairRotary Club of Pawtuxet Valley

WELCOME TO ROTARY ROCKS PLYMOUTH MULTI-DISTRICT CONFERENCE 2018!

Our committee has put together a great weekend for us all to celebrate this year’s accomplishments, to enrich our Rotary knowledge, to spend time and fellowship with our Rotary friends, and to make new acquaintances. We have a lineup of Keynote Speakers specifically chosen to provide you with new insights on several levels: Rotary growth and change, the local opioid crisis, and global

peace and conflict resolution. Please take advantage of our Youth Program and our breakout sessions which have been chosen to complement the keynote addresses. And I hope you’ll love Plymouth, America’s Hometown. I’m so glad you’re here!

IAN H.S. RISELEYPresident, Rotary International

2018-2019

Dear fellow Rotarians and friends,

Juliet and I are happy to welcome to you to this 2017-18 District Conference. Each district conference is a great opportunity to meet other committed Rotarians from your district and learn how, through hard work and dedication, we will accomplish great things together in the name of Rotary.

In 1935, Paul Harris wrote, “This is a changing world; we must be prepared to change with it. The story of Rotary will have to be written again and again.” I agree completely with Paul’s sentiments. The world has changed quite a bit since he made that comment, and so too has Rotary. Today, you can find clubs that hold service activities alongside traditional meetings. You can meet Rotarians who have recently completed school and are just starting their careers. Our membership is now more than 20 percent women and that figure is rising. Our ability to evolve, to change as the world does, is only possible because of strong, innovative leaders who are dedicated to club and community.

In Rotary, we know how important it is to help our neighbors, either down the street or across the world. When we teach a child to read, vaccinate an infant against polio or bring medical help to areas where there is none, we are having a positive impact on the world that will affect current and future generations. Together, we serve the global community, and there is much work still to be done.

I hope your district conference is a motivating and productive one, and wish you all the best. Together, we will achieve great things through our service in

Rotary: Making A Difference.

Sincerely,Ian H.S. RiseleyPresident, Rotary International 2017-18

Program - Into a New Nuclear Age: How the return of great power politics, an accelerating arms race, and the proliferation of nuclear weapons are moving us towards a tipping point.

Francesca Giovannini, Rotary World Peace Fellow, Program Director for Global Security and International Affairs at the American Academy

We are currently living in a nuclear age far more destabilizing and uncertain than the previous eras. All nuclear weapons possessing entities are modernizing and expanding their nuclear arsenals. Nuclear aspirant countries are accelerating their accumulation of nuclear technologies and know-how. Systemic factors, including the rise of nationalism, great power politics and resource competition might lead towards heightened global tensions. How did we get here? And how can we get out of this mess? This talk will discuss the comeback of nuclear weapons into global politics and offer some potential paths towards managing the risks these weapons pose.

BILL GORMONT, MAGICIAN

The Magic of Rotary: Engaging Members to Create A Winning Team

Saturday, May 19th 2018, 6:30PMHow do you become a successful growing Rotary Club? It’s all about VISION and TRUST built on a rock-solid base of POSSI- BILITY THINKING. The leadership style, club dynamics and projects that were successful in the past are no longer working well and you’re losing more members than you attract. Why? Because our world is changing and “Shift Happens!” People today are joining service organizations with different expectations than they did years ago. The former concept of “I’ll Do Whatever/ Whenever” has transitioned to become “I Want Hands-on … NOW!” Bill’s powerful thought-provoking program addresses the “Shift” in today’s terms. As a Rotarian, Bill understands the challenges. He explores the positive reinforcement required to build TRUST, encourage the heart and let people know their engagement of personal energy, talents and enthusiasm are needed, appreciated and visible. You’ll learn how to inspire a SHARED VISION and create an energy-vibe that keeps members EN- GAGED. Bill’s unforgettable message is a unique combination of real life experience and proven techniques that will increase effectiveness within your Rotary club, area, district and zone organizations. He brings his successful organizational leadership skills & magical entertainment to center stage, as he presents The Magic of Rotary - Engaging Members to Create a Winning Team. This program is perfect for Rotary organizations at all levels.

Creamos believes that all women have the right to financial freedom and the opportunity to better their lives.Creamos was born in 2008 as a social entrepreneurship program under our parent organization, Safe Passage, out of the recognition of the severe economic challenges women face in Guatemala especially in our target community. In 2014, Creamos became its own organization registered in Guatemala with the mission to provide income, emotional and educational opportunities for the women who live around the Garbage Dump in Guatemala City. Our holistic services aim to tackle the complex obstacles our women encounter. Through our two-pronged approach, we provide income generating programs and supportive services that focus on emotional health for over 130 women. Our hope is by focusing on these two areas of human need, Creamos participants will embody our organization’s mantra:

The program book covers you received today were made by the woman of the Guatemala City Dump, giving them a small income, emotional and educational growth.
