The NWS in Blacksburg says that light snow is expected Thurs- day, with accumulations of about 1 to 2 inches, especially in higher elevations. Travel conditions could be af- fected. The high temperature is sup- posed to be 38, with a low of about 22. The conditions south and west of Henry County — across North Carolina — could be more severe. Because of the forecast, Pat- rick Henry Community College announced on Wednesday af- ternoon that it was canceling its celebration of the national Career and Technical Education Signing Day. PHCC had invited area high school students (and their par- ents/ guardians) who had entered one of PHCC’s CTE programs to attend a ceremony and lunch. The event now will be Feb. 27. Henry County Public Schools will close two hours early today. Martinsville city schools will also dismiss two hours early and all af- ter school activities are canceled for today. Krystal Anne McReynolds, 34, of McKinley Drive in Bassett, died at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospi- tal on Wednesday night, a release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Of- fice said. McReynolds was four to five months pregnant, the release said, and her unborn child also passed away. Thomas Christopher McDow- ell, 35, of 42 Badger Drive in Fieldale was ar- rested Wednesday morning and after McReynolds’ death charges were up- graded to second- degree murder and the use of a firearm during the commission of a murder. Earlier he had been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm during the commis- sion of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Inves- tigators said that additional charges are expected. The situation unfolded at 9:48 p.m. Tuesday when the Martins- ville-Henry County Emergency 911 Center received a call of an individ- ual who had been shot at 60 Fourth St. in Fieldale, the release said. Deputies arrived at 9:52 and found McReynolds lying outside with “at least one gunshot wound to the face,” Henry County Sheriff’s Capt. Wayne Davis said in the release. McReynolds was taken to Sovah- Martinsville and transferred to Car- illon Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The body of the unborn child has been taken to the Medical Examin- er’s office in Roanoke to determine the cause of death. Instead, the Grand Jury indicted Massey on charges of voluntary manslaughter and unlawful shooting at an occupied dwelling. Massey is charged for his alleged involvement in the shooting death on Jan. 1, 2019, of Rasheem Oshea Hairston, of Eden, N.C., a former resident of the Mar- tinsville area. A Bassett woman and her unbornchild are dead, and a Fieldale manis charged with shooting her in theface Tuesday night outside a resi-dence in Fieldale.

A charge of second-de-gree murder has been dis-missed against Devontae
