Salsa y Control Dance Company Salsa y Control originated from the desire to inspire others to experience the sheer enjoyment and immense passion for Salsa/Mambo music and dance. The concept for Salsa y Control began in 1999 with brothers, Johnny and Andres Giraldo. Originally from Medellin, Columbia, Johnny and Andres began performing amazing duets that incorporated intricate salsa footwork and musicality. They were the first and only all male salsa dance group in Boston, MA. Their strong desire to fulfill a need to express one’s inner emotions through the art of dance is how their journey began. They named themselves after the song “Salsa y Control” by Los Hermanos Lebron. A few years later in 2003, after much demand from Boston’s salsa community, Johnny and Andres felt a need to expand their duet act, define their vision, and take their success to the next level. With the collaboration of Johnny’s, wife and dance partner, Felicita Giraldo, the threesome founded the Salsa y Control Dance Company. They combined the unique style and slick moves of two brothers with the electrifying elegance of an innovative couple to bring inspiration of salsa/mambo dancing to others. The result was amazing and the response from the audience was nothing but a positive one. Today, Salsa y Control Dance Company continues their commitment of inspiring others to dance. The Giraldo family strongly believes that Salsa/Mambo dancing brings peace and fulfillment to the soul and helps bring people together from many different cultural backgrounds to celebrate what life should truly be about: love, unity and respect. Currently, Salsa y Control consists of a professional and semi-professional team; they also conduct intensive training programs for anyone interested in improving their dancing. Salsa y Control’s core mission remains – to spread the love for salsa and its growth in the Boston community and beyond! Performing and teaching for Salsa Pittsburgh’s 2010 Salsa Spooktacular will be brothers, Johnny and Andres, along with their wives and dance partners, Felicita and Leah.
