NIST’s Role in STEP Development
NIST is the SC4 Secretariat
Sponsors US industry SC4 Chair
Provides the STEP On-line Information Services (SOLIS), a service which makes all STEP and SC4 information/documentation available electronically
Provides administrative support to US TAG, the formal US representative to SC4
Supports and coordinates industrial input and activity across multiple industrial sectors
NIST/ECRC
IGES/PDES Organization (IPO)
US focal point for Product Data Standards and Technologies; ANSI-accredited consensus standard organization Membership domestic, participation international.
The US technical development body to STEP
Established in 1979, conducts quarterly meetings and maintains IGES
Projects are organized similarly to SC4
Principal management provided by NIST; administrative support provided by USPRO
NIST/ECRC
US Technical Advisory Group
US Body responsible (to ANSI) for establishing US Position on SC4 Ballots
US TAG Chair serves as US Head of Delegation to SC4 Meetings
Voluntary body; small, official membership (~20 organizations); has membership requirements
Solicits & organizes US ballot comments; ballot coordinator responsible for organizing comments
