STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund Grant

• Initially funded by the Indiana General Assembly in 2013; administered by Indiana Education Roundtable and Center for Education and Career Innovation

• Grant administration moved to CHE in 2015

• Funded at $10M per biennium since inception

STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund Grant – Primary Goals

• Encourage the growth of existing organizations that recruit STEM teachers in eligible Indiana school corporations

• Support the establishment of programs that increase the pool of high-quality STEM teachers in eligible Indiana school corporations

• Identify recruiting organizations and programs that match STEM teachers with school corporations experiencing qualified teacher shortages

• New applicant or prior grant recipient

– Grant-funded activities must support pre-service and/or in-service teachers currently employed in or seeking employment in Indiana public school corporations, including charter schools

• Registered as a non-profit domestic or foreign corporation with the Indiana Secretary of State

STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund Grant – Priorities

• Priority given to organizations that:

– Focus on filling immediate needs in eligible Indiana K-12 schools

– Assist STEM teachers in meeting standards for teaching secondary dual-credit and other secondary education college-level coursework (Advancement Placement, International Baccalaureate)

– Expand STEM training and professional development opportunities

– Expand Indiana’s STEM teacher pipeline

• Awards are based on:

– Available funding

– Application score

– Funding request in relation to scope of the work project, students and teachers impacted and cost-effectiveness

• Grants are competitive and scored using separate evaluation rubrics for new applicants and prior grant recipients

• Sub-grants to provide schools access to project-based learning resources and professional development activities

– More than 550 STEM teachers enrolled in or completing coursework needed to teach dual credit STEM classes

– More than 250 school corporations with at least one (1) teacher completing dual credit teaching credentialing requirements

STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund Grant – Next Steps

• Grantees must provide activity reports by December 1 and July 1 during the grant cycle

• Commission staff conducts site visits to evaluate grant activities and training and to talk with grantee administrative staff and activity participants

• Information from reports and site visits provided to stakeholders
