STEM at South Padbury

Term 3 has been jam-packed full of planning, making, testing and lots of fun. In Year One, the students have used different recycled materials to design and construct their own “Most Magnificent Thing”, being something special and of value to them.

This year the students at South Padbury Primary have been trialling a range of exciting new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) projects, recently developed by Scitech.

Down in Pre-Primary, the students have been exploring animal welfare and have built strong model bridges that will allow animals to cross a busy road safely.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

NAPLAN

Individual student reports (ISR) will be delivered to schools from the middle of September

2019 and we’ll forward these on to you as soon as we get them.

School Survey

We survey our school community annually as we do value all stakeholders opinions and do act upon advice and

recommendations. This year’s survey will be important as we’ve had a few areas relatively down over the past 2

surveys and we’ve tweaked our operations according to the feedback. Should these areas still be down, we’ll

instigate wholesale changes, as we’re only as good as the service we provide to our community, and our community

feedback is an effective tool for us to utilise in whole of school ongoing improvement. I really would appreciate your

feedback and opinions by following the link;

The corresponding survey for students can be accessed by following;

Athletics Carnival

We’re all ready and excited for tomorrow’s athletics carnival. A lot of thought and planning has gone into the day and

I thank Mrs Wiener and Mrs Williams in advance for all of their great work. The grounds are also well prepared and

marked and I thank and commend Mrs Pooley on all of her work in this important area. Tomorrow is all about fun,

inclusion and physical activity. It’s a carnival for all, where all of the students are active for all of the carnival. The old

fashion carnival, where students spend the vast majority of the day in pens is a vastly inferior model to ours in terms

of engaging in physical activity. The interschool athletics carnival on the other hand is all about competition, and al-

lows our athletes the opportunity to compete at a high level against other students from the Whitfords group of

schools. Students are selected to attend this carnival, based on athletic merit, and it is on early in Term 4. The dual

approach model that we have adopted we believe caters for all students and promotes inclusivity, team work, leader-

ship and a love of physical activity.

Before and after school

I love that the school facilities are being fully utilised after school hours for parents and children to socialise and

unwind after the school day. However, I urge parents to supervise your children during these periods as children

climbing on walls, over fences and roaming the school grounds unsupervised is going to result in an injury at some

stage. I have instructed all staff to not engage when they see these behaviours occurring as after we release your

children to you after school, we are extinguishing our duty of care and it is inappropriate for anyone to parent other

people’s children out of hours. Before school, we accept duty of care from 8.30am, unless you take your child to the

top oval where Mr Jones and I accept this role form 8.00am. Again, if you’re at school before 8.30 and for whatever

reason choose not to have Mr Jones and I supervise, please ensure that you provide supervision and disallow

dangerous behaviours.

Staffing and 2020 classes

I’m hard at it putting the final touches on our 2020 line-up. Once the classes and the personnel are set in stone I’ll

publish the plan in the newsletter. I’m really not one for secrets and as soon as my line-up is completed I’ll publish.

I’ve allocated 2 full collaborative planning meetings for the staff to set up the classes in terms of student placements.
