EMERALD ISLE EXPLORERDiscover Ireland, an island often known as The Emerald Isle thanks to its lush green vistas.
You can experience these breathtaking views from the railway as we travel behind 5’3”
gauge steam locomotives to Dublin, Galway, Killarney and Waterford.
In Ireland all railways are a different gauge to the UK so we will be using the carriages that belong to the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland. These are different to those on charter trains used in the UK with more basic seating* and décor but also a very Irish ambience - including the only railway bar in the world with draught Guinness. The hotels on this trip are of the highest calibre featuring some of the best 3, 4 and 5 Star hotels ever involved in a Steam Dreams tour (for non-Dining, Premier Dining and Pullman Style Dining passengers respectively). What’s Included: • Carefully chosen, quality hotel accommodation• Breakfast in your hotel each morning for passengers in all classes• Pullman Style and Premier Dining passengers will be served a 3 or 4 Course Dinner in their hotels • On days spent on the train, complimentary teas and coffees will be served to all passengers
• Pullman Style and Premier Dining passengers will be served a lunchtime meal on all train days in Ireland* The seating is narrower than in the dining carriages normally used on The Cathedrals Express day trips.

THE CATHEDRALS EXPRESS TO EDINBURGHA FAREWELL TO GRESLEY
What better way to spend a short break in July than a tour by steam train from Southern England to the glorious cities of York or Edinburgh?
One of the highlights of The Cathedrals Express calendar is a trip to the Scottish capital, Edinburgh, and in 2015 A4 class Sir Nigel Gresley will be hauling this special from London to Edinburgh and back to York shortly before she is retired from mainline running for overhaul. Passengers also have the option of spending two nights in York. The journey itself is wonderfully scenic with distant views of the North Yorkshire Moors and the Cathedral City of Durham, before the approach to Newcastle brings a view of the imposing Angel of the North. Crossing the Tyne we are soon
racing along with views of the North Sea coast near Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island before passing scenic Alnmouth and Eyemouth. After crossing the grandeur of the Royal Border Bridge at Berwick into Scotland and enjoying the rugged cliff top views, we descend towards the Firth of Forth and Edinburgh. The City of Edinburgh offers a plethora of architectural and cultural pleasures and few City walks can warm the blood like those down Princes Street and the Royal Mile. Passengers who choose to may book their hotels as part of their trip.

THE LAKES EXPRESSOne of the great traditional holiday destinations within the British Isles is the
beautiful Lake District nestling at the foot of the Cumbrian Mountains. Summer
2015 sees the 50th anniversary since the last London Euston to Windermere
Lakes Express ran at the end of that summer season and now Steam Dreams is
commemorating that with its very own Lakes Express.

From the Hampshire Downs we join the National Railway System at Alton through London to the North Downs and on to the newly opened connection to the Bluebell Railway. We terminate at Kingscote station from where passengers transfer to a train of vintage carriages for the short journey to the terminus at Sheffield Park, near the gardens of the National Trust house of the same name. Alternatively, spend time looking at the Bluebell’s many attractions or even take another journey up and down the railway. Our return journey is via the Surrey Hills.

Surely the ultimate journey with connotations of wartime sacrifice but hope that lay within the lyrics of Vera Lynn’s famous song, the White Cliffs evokes very many poignant images of sailors and airmen leaving – and some returning – from the daunting tasks of war.
Our celebrations of the 70th anniversary of VE Day start, under the banner of Rule Britannia, with haulage by the class of that name, around the beautiful Surrey Hills. Unusually pickups on this train are available across Surrey as we perform a loop back in the London suburbs in order to cross the famous Surrey Hills line in both directions.

Our return journey is diesel hauled from Salisbury and along the south coast of England.

Travel from London Victoria, Clapham Junction, Twickenham, Staines, Brookwood, Basingstoke or Bournemouth.
Travel from London Kings Cross, Potters Bar, Stevenage, Huntingdon, Peterborough or Retford.
Our annual trip to the coast at Scarborough with the option of visiting York, is hauled quickly by vintage diesel on the outward trip but on the return is scheduled to be hauled all the way from Scarborough to London by one of Britain’s most popular steam engines A4 Class 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley.
One of our most popular destinations, Corfe Castle and Swanage, but this time by a new route picking up at Cheam and stations on the way down the Portsmouth Direct line. The Isle of Purbeck and the Jurassic Coast are one of the most beautiful and hard to access parts of Southern England and the steam train is the perfect way to get there.
A new starting point for The Cathedrals Express as we head up north from Preston Park picking up en route to the South Western mainline to Salisbury and Sherborne where steam leaves us and a vintage diesel whisks us down to the South Coast and along to Preston Park before dropping off en route to London.

SOUTHEND AIRPORT TO EXETER, PAIGNTON & KINGSWEAR
Travel from Southend Airport, Wickford, Shenfield, Stratford, Slough or Reading.
The Cathedrals Express regularly celebrates the end of Southern Steam on 9 July 1967 by replicating the last steam hauled service by taking a trip to Weymouth. Scheduled to be hauled by one of Bulleid’s famous Pacific locomotives, everything should be perfect – beautiful seaside route, lovely countryside, a homely seaside town and steam on a memorable date.
Another new itinerary from Southend Airport, this time diesel hauled as far as Somerset, where steam takes over for the trip to Exeter and the run along the Devon sea wall before arriving at Kingswear for Dartmouth. Steam takes us back on the same route as the outward before diesel takes over for the final leg to London and Southend.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
General ConditionsSteam Dreams will use its best efforts to ensure that the proposed locomotives, coaching stock, route and times run as advertised and we reserve the right to amend or cancel any part of the tour at any time. Steam Dreams cannot accept any responsibility for the action of third parties and strongly recommends that all passengers take out travel/cancellation insurance. To avoid disappointment, passengers are advised not to pre-book transport links before final timings have been released by Network Rail.
Steam AvailabilitySteam Dreams will use its best efforts to provide steam traction on trips rostered for steam haulage, for the sector(s) advertised as such, but this cannot be guaranteed. On occasion a diesel locomotive may be substituted, mainly due to fire risk, drought, route restrictions or locomotive failure on the day. Occasionally on some tours it may be necessary for a part of the journey to be diesel hauled, normally at the request of Network Rail, the train operating company or the locomotive owner. Where possible we will try to make this clear at the time of booking but it may be necessary for changes to be made at a later stage for operational reasons. If for reasons beyond our control a trip has no steam traction a partial refund of £10 in Premium Standard, £15 in First Class, £20 in Premier Dining and £25 in Pullman Style Dining may be offered. Alternatively we may offer a credit note for double this amount to be used against a future trip.
Diesel AssistanceOn steam hauled trips occasionally for operational reasons or due to adverse weather, a diesel engine may be attached to the train.

Wheelchairs, walking frames and mobility scooters must be of the fold-up variety and will be issued with an identity tag before being stored in the guards van and cannot be used onboard the train. If in doubt, please contact the booking office for advice.
