Skylight & Lighting Project• In 1997, HDH Associates provided a condition report to the Wyoming Department of

Administration and Information (A&I) about weaknesses in the wire glass panels in the pyramidal skylights set in metal frames above the stained glass in the Senate and House of Representatives Chambers. The removal of the wire glass and installation of a new copper roof system was recommended.

• A&I implemented the HDH recommendations and chose to eliminate the skylights in the cupolas and replace that area with the new copper roof system.

• In 2002, the Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee requested a cost estimate from A&I to restore natural sunlight in the House and Senate Chambers.

• In 2004, the Select Committee on Legislative Facilities was tasked to study the options for reopening the skylights in the House and Senate Chambers to sunlight and contracted with Hefferan Partnership Lighting Design to conduct a feasibility study.

• Based on this study, during the 2007 General Session, the Wyoming Legislature appropriated $1,200,000 for lighting and skylight renovation in the Senate and House Chambers.

• Edwards Construction of Cheyenne was awarded the contract by A&I, and LSO contracted with architect Glenn Garrett to design and install the skylights and update the lighting in the Chambers, which will restore natural light to the Chambers and better illuminate the stained glass.

• The project is expected to be completed by early fall of 2008.
