Introduction

Electricity is pure power but making it is most often a dirty business. Ourworld continues to rely on fossil fuels for more of its power and now we’re paying

for it with continuous rising of global temperature. The end of our dependence on

fossil fuels could begin in space, where the best source of energy is, -the sun. 174

million giga watts of solar radiation hits the earth every second, that’s more energy

than our civilizations used since the start of the electrical age. With the power of the

sun and our technology today, we could provide an endless supply of clean energy

to our world.

It has long been considered that solar photovoltaic is one technology that will

help the world reduce its dependence on fossil fuel for the production of energy.

However, photovoltaic production also relies on fossil fuels, so it would be better tohave a device that would complement the photovoltaic cells and is not dependent

on fossil fuel. For the industry to become fully independent on fossil fuel we should

think of innovative ways to utilize the sun’s energy to supplement our need for

energy, this way, significant number on the percentage of electricity usage will be

reduced.

The Current product

Skyview skylights

Roof opening covered with translucent or transparent glass or

designed to admit daylight. Skylights have found wide application admitting steady,

even light in industrial, commercial, and residential buildings, especially those with

a northern orientation. Installations range from purely functional daylighting to

elaborate aesthetic forms. Flat-roofed buildings may have domed skylights; in

others the skylight follows the slope of the roof. Often the skylight, or a portion of it,

functions as an operating window to admit air.

The Innovation

Prismatic skylight

- An innovative design of skylights that manipulates the direction of sun’s light.

The design uses the window shed to collect sunlight and redirect it to the mirror

inside the ceiling that will serve as the vessel going through the prism which will

distribute evenly the light in the building interior.

Difference between an ordinary skylight and the prismatic skylight

The skylight directly receives and admits light into the building interior, the

sunlight going through cannot be controlled, while in the prismatic skylight the light

will undergo some components that will control and will regulate the flow of sunlight

to create the desired value/ amount of light that will enter the building.

Prismatic Skylights bring the outdoors in, conserve energy, and brighten yourhome. All while protecting your sense of privacy.

Natural light brings out the true colors of the floor coverings, walls, and

furniture you worked so hard to coordinate. Skylights also dramatically

reduce you need to invest in accessory lighting.

With skylights, rooms are bright all day regardless of the sun's position. No

longer will your East facing rooms be dark in the afternoon…. and you won't

have to reach for the light switch every time you enter rooms facing the

north.

People's spirits are raised in an atmosphere with an abundance of light and

color. Skylights add a new sense of freedom, and an escap

confinement. In short, a psychological "lift".

TECHNOLOGY

Skylights bring in an abundance of natural light into interior rooms where it is

impossible to put windows. These rooms no longer need to be dark and

unpleasant work, play, or live in.

Plants love skylights, so you no longer need to huddle plants around a

window. The number and variety of plants with which you can decorate is

greatly increased.

Light from windows is uneven. Near the windows it is very strong, but the

opposite side remains dark. Skyview Skylights distribute light uniformly

throughout the room…and there is no window glare.

In addition to the aesthetic and psychological advantages, skylights can be

practical and economical energy saving devices. Acting as efficient passive

solar collectors, they let in free light, which more than offsets the slight

conductive heat loss.

The Process

The Prismatic skylight has its 3 key components:

1) Solar panel –has two purpose – to redirect the sunlight to the mirror, and

to collect sunlight reserved for latter use as an alternative source of

electricity

2) Mirror – serves as the channel going to the prism latter

3) Prism – regulates and distributes the light evenly inside the building
