We also learn about what really scares you. Leadership starts from within. By doing so we will show you how to become a better leader in life and in the fire service. This program covers all three phases of great leadership. 1. Intellectual Intelligence, 2. Emotional Intelligence and 3. Personality Based Human Dynamics. Most leadership programs tell you how to be a better leader with one phase but we show the attendee how to be a better leader with all three. You will learn the 4 different personalities in the firehouse. Dealing with Negativity: We will teach you how to read, map and identify the four different personalities in your organization. Learn what makes them engage, be motivated or tick. Have you ever asked yourself “What the hell was that guy thinking?” If you have, do you really know who you’re leading? The Berlin F.D. will hold its 4th Autorama Car Show on Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sage Park. This year they would like to have a section of old fire apparatus and have reached out to different apparatus. We will be judging any and all apparatus that attend and will be awarding trophies to them. All proceeds are donated to Berlin’s local Veterans group for distributing to our Veterans in need!! See the attached for additional information. ----------- 3. Fire Truck Show at the Connecticut Trolley Museum The Connecticut Trolley Museum is holding their 2nd annual Fire Truck Show on Saturday, May 20th from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The museum is located at 58 North Road in East Windsor, CT. See the attached flyer for additional information. Also note the museum is looking for departments to bring their fire truck. June School 2017 – Cadet Day 6/4 – 8:30 to 4:30 Spaces remain open for this one day course designed to engage and energize both Junior Firefighters and their Advisors with a series of proven, applicable and easy-to-reproduce hands-on drills. Evolutions will include advancing and operating handlines, search and rescue, forcible entry, ‘streetwise’ ropes and knots, and more. The day will culminate in a competition where teams of students will have to use teamwork and creativity to come out on top. In addition attendees will be provided with a package of lesson plans for in-house drill ideas suitable for Junior Firefighters. Junior Program Advisors are encouraged to attend alongside their Junior Firefighters. Course is limited to (24) students. Full PPE and high levels of motivation for all students is required. Students should also bring their own lunch, refrigerators will be available. Larus Institute to offer June 3 Entry-level Oral Interview Prep Class Larus Institute will hold a one-day, entry-level, firefighter oral interview prep class at the North Branford Volunteer Fire Department. In this interactive, mock interview class, participants learn how to prepare their own responses, the kind of answers panelists want to hear, and write a winning resume. We show how to succeed in all interviews, including video interviews. It is not too early to start preparing. Participants receive a complimentary copy of Firefighter Oral Interview Prep Workbook, 2nd Edition. Go to www.publicsafetyprep.com for more information and to register.

Pomfret Fire Dept to Host Strategy & Tactics Classes Pomfret Fire Dept. will be hosting the Strategy and Tactics series I II III S&T I June 20, 22 & 24 Tue & Thurs 6pm – 10pm Sat 9 - 4 S&T II Aug 22, 24 & 26 Tue & Thurs 6pm – 10pm Sat 9 - 4 S&T III Oct 24, 26 & 28 Tue & Thurs 6pm – 10pm Sat 9 – 4 There are no prerequisites required. Though classes are designed to build on one another, you can take any 1 class or all 3. To register email Jim Fernstrom at [email protected] In the subject line put Strategy & Tactics. I will email you the location in Pomfret the class will be held. Strategy and Tactics I: Fundamentals This two night one-day course introduces the officer candidate to the philosophy and tools required for leadership decision making during emergencies. Subjects covered will be a review of the National Incident Management System (NIMS), Incident Priorities and Decision making, the basics of fire behavior and building construction, “size-up”, evaluation and assessment as well as the difference between “strategy and tactics” using such tools as Layman’s Tactical Model and RECEO VS, Terpak’s COAL TWAS WEALTHS or Norman’s version COAL WAS WEALTH and offensive versus defensive operations. Class Hours: 16 Course Fee: $50.00 ----------- 7.
