National Teach Ag CampaignState Teach Ag Results (STAR) Program

• Deliberate and results driven program for selected states to develop a sustainable and effective recruitment and retention plan supported and guided by the National Teach Ag Campaign.

• The first group of states have completed their initial assessment and planning meeting.  (NC, MO, IL, NE, MS, NY, MN, KS, OR, IN, CA).  STAR teams are finalizing their plans, determining a working budget and beginning to set their plans in motion this fall.

• The next round of states will begin the process in December/January. They include ID, IA, PA and SD.  There may be an opportunity for an additional 1-2 states in the January cohort.

• The data collected from the 11 states is very telling.  The main shortage problem does not appear to be retention based but rather recruitment based.  States are implementing a variety of strategies to address this.  The strategies will be shared in the coming months.

To date - 34 states have participated reporting over 900,000 meals donated!

This year’s challenge is on its way to being a huge success, but we are not there yet!

Encourage your chapters to continue reporting their efforts at ffa.org/hunger.

During convention we will announce a new goal and issue a new challenge for our FFA chapters, states and sponsors.

• Achieve.org The Business Roundtable (BRT) report, Taking Action on Education and Workforce Preparedness, "a nation's capacity to develop a skilled, prepared workforce is inextricably linked to the quality of its education system." The report suggests that such a workforce is the cornerstone of economic competitiveness.

To help business leaders think more strategically about their support for college and career readiness, Achieve has collaborated with the GE Foundation and AT&T, along with Chevron, the Prudential and Travelers Foundations, and Alcoa to create the Business Center for a College and Career Ready America. Through the Business Center's suite of featured tools and resources, the site explores college and career readiness in economic terms and examines issues of competitiveness, the skills gap, STEM training, and more through the lens of America's education-to-workforce pipeline.

The Business Center advocates college and career readiness for all students. Learn more about the Business Center at www.businessandeducation.org. Source: Achieve.org
