Unit 7 – Deaf Jokes Practice 7.2 (Page 13)

“King Kong” 1. Through the window of a building 2. They are both Deaf 3. King Kong crushes her 4. The sign for ―marry‖ is one hand coming down and clasping the other, so in the process

of King Kong saying he wanted to marry the woman, he crushes her. 5. This is an example of a joke related to the linguistics of ASL

“The Whistle” 1. The first man plays the whistle, the second man plays the harmonica, and the third man

doesn’t play an instrument. 2. The first man plays his whistle louder/better, the second man plays his harmonica

louder/better, and the third man stands there with his eyes wide and his mouth wide open.

3. With the screeching sound from his hearing aid. 4. The Deaf man got the girl without having to play an instrument. 5. This is an example of a joke where the Deaf person ―wins‖ because he is deaf.
