I will be missing the October General Membership Meeting due to unavoidable travel. Don’t worry, VC

Bryce has a little experience conducting the meetings so everything will go just fine. October is an important

month as it is when we have members step-up to be nominated for the positions in the club that help direct us

for 2018. It is my hope you have already decided to take a position in the club and let everyone know in Oc-

tober.

WNATR is now completed and many congrats go out to the FC Chris McCardell, the WSSC Race Com-

mittee, and all the Race Committee Boats throughout the season. Everything went very well and I think that

everyone really enjoyed the season. Our last Specialty Race, the Jack & Jill, is also complete. The race and

the Corn Roast were very well attended with 11 boats signing up for the race and almost 40 people attending

at the party. Great Job and Congrats go out to VC Bryce, RC Lance, Lady Sharon and Lady Christy, and to

our corn chef Frank Pavia and our chicken herders Gale and Karen Laughner. We also were able to pull the

race buoys so a big thank you goes out to our skipper Tim S. and the crew of 13 – Bryce B, Lance Y, Dick S,

Tim L, Andrew L, David L, Chuck L, Don B, Chris M, Ted W, and me… and don’t forget Sharon B and

Christy Y for the sub, beer and donuts. Now the only thing left is to party and celebrate the season on Octo-

ber 20th at the annual WSSC Awards Banquet. It is held at Mr. Nick’s and they do a great job catering the

event. It is always great time so I hope to see you all there.

The last boat cruise of the season is also now complete. I don’t have any specific information on this event

– please see Lance’s article – but I am sure everyone had a good time.

From the Commodore continued from page 1...

I know that Sharon has been talking about some fun Activities for the club so keep an eye out for those as

well. The next GMM is on Thursday, October 5th. I hope you can make it and be good to Bryce and Lance…

Quick Reminders:

WSSC October GMM meeting on October 5, 2017 at Mr. Nick’s in Trenton.

WSSC WNATR Awards Banquet – October 20th at Mr. Nick’s in Trenton.

Also, check the newsletter for other upcoming club events.

The photo below was taken on the last WNATR for this season and was forwarded to me by Joe K. Just

one more of the beautiful reasons to be out sailing.

From the Rear Commodore... Well, the WSSC cruises must be finished because the Highlight of the Cruising Season is behind us. What

a phenomenal turn out, with 16 boats sailing in to the Monroe Boat Club and 47 attending dinner at Harbor

Inn & Ale. Port Captains Dan and Peggy did a wonderful job getting us all in there.

This seems the appropriate time to thank everyone who was a Port Captain, the Cruising Committee, and

the Cruising Fleet Captain. None of our great adventures would be possible without the dedication of our

members! Thank You just doesn't seem to quantify my gratitude. So let me just say, as Rear Commodore,

“You all made me look good!”

The Fall Cruising Committee will be meeting some time in November, to wrap up this season. Look for a

detailed email from Fleet Captain Don. The presentation this month is “How a Sailboat Really Works” by

Matthew Coley. I have been looking forward to this presentation since January! Our Presenter Series ends

next month in November with John McCallum and Amy

Stout presenting on their adventure to Lake Ontario: Un-

locking the Locks.

Megan and Ion sent us a thank you note for our dona-

tion to help fund their racing, you can find it on the literal

cork board at the General Membership Meeting (verses the

virtual cork board in the Starboard Tack).

Smooth Sailing,

Lance Yee

From the Vice Commodore...

Racing season is officially over. The last Specialty Race, the Jack and Jill, had a tremendous turnout with

ten boats registered and nine boats completing the race. The afterglow Corn Roast was also very well attended!

I would like to take a moment to send a special thank you to Frank for hosting so many of these events. As al-

ways, the corn was delicious. Also, thank you to Dale and Karen for bringing the excellent Chicken and to All

for the wonderful side dishes.

With the last Wednesday Night Race barely in the rearview mirror, Saturday September 16th marked the

annual Buoy Pull. Thirteen West Shore Buccaneers headed out, off the shores of Amherstburg, to ravage the

seas of their treasures. Fueled with only donuts and coffee, they readied the fight, lowering their decks for bat-

tle. The seas did not give up the nine West Shore treasures easily, however they returned victorious, their car-

go haul full of their bounty. Waiting ashore was fair maidens, Sharon and Christy, who had prepared for them

a great feast. Thank you everyone for helping out with the Buoy Pull; these events are only made possible be-

cause of your time and dedication!

Mark your calendars; October 20th is WSSC Awards Banquet at Mr. Nicks. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. with

the Awards’ Presentation immediately following. All are welcome! This is the perfect ending to another excit-

ing racing season.

Before signing off, I encourage you to read the Euchre Event article from the Activities Chairperson (a.k.a.

my better half). Sharon, along with the Activities Committee, is planning a new way to keep us all connected

this winter. This event is open to all, Euchre players and haters alike!
