Proposition= an opinion put forth by someone.

Support= a reason that answers the question whyabout the proposition statement.

Example:

Proposition: Smoking cigarettes should be illegal.

Support: Smoking causes lung cancer and other negative health effects.

Support: Nonsmoking citizens cannot avoid secondhand smoke whichis also harmful.

Support: Treatment of smoking related illnesses is a burden on thehealthcare system and increases insurance costs for everyone.
