General building authorities approvals

General building authority approvals are granted for construction products and types of construction for which there are no generally acknowledged rules of technology, DIN standards in particular, or which deviate considerably from them.

General building authorities approvals are granted by the Deutsche Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) for all federal states. They are an assessment of the usability or applicability of the approval subject with regards to the building authorities requirements.

General building authorities test certificates (abP)

General building authorities test certificate A general building authorities test certificate is proof of usability granted for:

• construction products which do not necessitate the compliance with significant requirements to the safety of structural components or

• for components that can be evaluated according to generally approved test methods (§ 19 Abs. 1 Musterbauordnung).

The building code A part 1, part 2 and part 3 lists for which product a general building authorities mtest certificate can be granted.

Only inspection authorities approved by the DIBt or another building authority are able to grant general building authorities test certificates.

European Technical Approvals/ Assessments are proof for the performance of a construction product within the sense of the Construction Products Directive. In Germany, ETAs are transposed by the Bauproduktengesetz (Construction Products Law). The ETA is based on tests, examinations and a technical assessment by approval bodies designated by the EU Member States for this purpose. It covers all product characteristics which are important for the fulfillment of the legal requirements in the member states, with the relevant levels of performance required being different in each member state.

A European technical approval / assessment can be granted for construction products for which harmonised specifications according to the Construction Products Directive do not (yet) exist or which deviate substantially from a harmonized standard.

Basis for the assessment of the performance are either Guidelines for European Technical Approvals (ETAGs) prepared by EOTA for the relevant product area, or criteria forassessment procedures that are agreed on with other EOTA bodies for issue of an approval of a specific request.

In the interest of the manufacturer the verifications presented to DIBt will be used as far as possible for the European procedure.

The European technical approval / assessment enables the manufacturer to place the CE marking on the construction product and thus access to the European market. With the CE marking the manufacturer confirms that he has carried out the prescribed verification method and that the conformity of the product is given with the approval.

FM ApprovalIn addition to general building authorities and European Technical Approval, selected EJOT products also feature a product certification by the American mutual insurance company FM Global.

The FM certification recognised both in Germany and internationally ensures compliance with the strictest quality and safety requirements.

DESIGN The hardened drill point enables the screw to drill carbon steel sections and by having the lead threads formed on this hardened point this allows for correct tapping at high drilling speed.

ASSEMBLY Where specified they are assembled with a stainless steel / EPDM vulcanized sealing washer every time.

PRODUCT GROUP The new EJOFAST JF3 fastener utilizes advanced fastening technology for fixing thin metal to thin metal. Manufactured from 304 (A2) grade austenitic stainless steel with a unique carbon pierce-point tip welded to the stainless steel shank.

DESIGN EJOFAST’s 10 and 12 gauge diameter (4.8mm and 5.5mm) utilize a buttress thread design, delivering high pullout strengths.

ASSEMBLY Where specified they are assembled with a stainless steel / EPDM vulcanized sealing washer ensuring a safe seal every time.

FINISH These fasteners are zinc coated and waxed to lubricate the surface during installation.

INSTALLATION EJOFAST goes exactly where it should go – no skating on the surface. Installation also ‘feels’ equally smooth. Multiple time tests at a drive speed of 1650 rpm with an end loading of 44lbs clearly showed EJOFAST to be on average 30% faster than a standard stitcher. This means significant man-hours saved on any moderate to large installation.

CLEAN, TIGHT JOINT By displacing, as opposed to cutting the metal, this innovative thread creates no debris and swarf. Displaced metal is forced forward - creating a tighter joint. On site, the removal of swarf should be ‘good housekeeping’ practice. ‘Overlooked’ swarf soon turns to unsightly rust.

Tensometer testing shows that the EJOFAST JF3 offers an improved pullout resistance advantage of 30% over conventional stitchers.

Installing EJOT Bi-metal self-drilling fasteners

EJOT Bi-metal self-drilling fasteners should be installed using a correctly powered screwdriver rotating with in the tolerance of the drill speeds in the table below. The screwdriver should be equipped with the correct driving attachments and adjustable nose piece.

The screwdriver should be positioned perpendicular to the material being fixed.

An applied force equal to the end load figures given in the table “Recommended drill speeds and end loads” should be maintained during the drilling and tapping operation. The screwdriver should be set to automatically disengage its clutch when the depth sensing nose piece makes contact with the surface of the material being fixed.

We would recommend that initial trial drives are carried out on a spare piece of material before commencing work, the purpose of the trial drives is to ensure that the screwdriver’s clutch disengages before damage is done to the fastener or materials whilst ensuring correct

mechanical joint is achieved.
