From the Rector Very Rev. Joseph Tizio, C.Ss.R. Staffed by The Redemptorists In May of 1869, Fr. James Healy, the pastor of St. James Church here in Boston, invited the Redemptorists to come and conduct a parish mission and as they say: “and the rest is history”. We are told that for three weeks nine Redemptorists attracted large crowds of German and Irish immigrants and remarkably, heard over 11,000 confessions! Fr. Healy was so impressed with these missionaries that he petitioned the bishop to offer the Redemptorists a permanent foundation in Boston and on September 25, 1869, the Redemptorists purchased the land where our basilica now stands. From that small beginning of nine Redemptorists the lives of countless people have been changed, a magnificent shrine to Our Lady of Perpetual Help was established, and thousands of people have been baptized, educated, helped in time of need, and have been given a Christian burial. From the very beginning, the Redemptorists came here to Boston to serve immigrants, those first years they served Irish and German immigrants, now we serve Haitian, Hispanic, and African immigrants. In the end, this has always been a parish community where all are welcomed, where diversity is cele- brated, and all are treated with respect and kindness. So, this weekend we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of those first Redemptorists, we celebrate so many wonderful priests and brothers who have served here, and we commit to continue the tradition of service to all who came here to worship, we commit to continue to make our dear Mother of Perpetual Help known to a new generation. MASS INTENTIONS FROM THE RECTOR

StewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipPlease remember that we depend on your weekly offering to continue the min-istry of our parish. We ask that you consider giving the equivalent of one hour of your weekly salary. It’s a goal that would strengthen the offertory to be in line with current expenses. If you can not commit one hour at this time, we ask that you contribute at least $5 as a minimum offering for the upkeep and mission of the church. Every gift will be used wisely and carefully. Thank you for the sacri-fices you make for this community!

NEWS & EVENTS

StewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipReflection“Everything I have is yours.” (Luke 15:31)

Our Heavenly Father gives us everything, including the chance to share in His eternal kingdom. Yet, like the Prodigal Son we are often lured away by the materialism of our society. Do we really want to turn our backs on all that God offers in exchange for a material wealth that has no lasting value?

Thank YouWe wish to thank all those who during these past few months have worked so hard to plan the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Redemptorist community here in Boston. Each week a dedicated group of parishioners met, planned, and with great dedication and love worked to create a beautiful celebration. Thank you!
