Staff News
Mrs Jenna Griffiths and Mrs Marivic Beard have both joined the Lunchtime Teams at Corsham Primary School. Jenna will be based at
Broadwood and Marivic will be at Pound Pill. We wish them well in their new roles as Lunchtime Playworkers.
Congratulations—Miss Charlie Gammon, one of our Foundation Stage
TA’s, has shared the happy news that she is expecting her first baby—we are all super-excited for her and her fiancée.
Travel Surveys—Pound Pill
We are shortly going to be issuing survey forms to parents and carers in order to collate information about how pupils
and staff travel to and from school. This will give us information we can incorporate into a School Travel Plan. As a result, we are hoping to raise the issue of difficulty crossing the roads around The Great Western pub and also get more bicycle racks/scooter storage at school.
Please return the surveys as soon as you are able to the school office or your child’s teacher. Thank you in
advance for your time.
Please look out for these books in our class libraries, Corsham Library, The Corsham Book Shop or online.
6HP
6HP think this adventure story about survival is very exciting.
Twelve-year-old Karana escapes death at the hands of treacherous hunters, only to find herself totally alone
on a harsh desolate island. How she survives in the face of all sorts of dangers makes gripping and
inspiring reading.
Based on a true story.
1W
1W are enjoying this different view of Florence
Nightingale.
Vlad the flea and Loxton the rat are perfectly at home in the dirt and filth of Scutari Hospital. But the arrival of Florence Nightingale and her strange companion changes everything. Will the friends be driven out or can they save the day? Find out about Florence, her nurses and Scutari Hospital through the eyes of Vlad the flea and Loxton the rat. Vlad narrates the tale as the nurses take charge and clean ... with soap! But there are other people in the hospital who are not happy with this new arrangement, and the friends will soon come up against both their
nemesis and a shadowy thief in their midst. Who will win and who will have to leave? A fact file at the end of the book clarifies which characters
are real and which are fictional.
1W (non-fiction)
Year 1 are currently learning about Florence Nightingale in history.
Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell risked their lives to look after the wounded and the dying. They proved
that bravery in wartime isn’t just about fighting and winning battles.

Thank you
The school year is very busy for our pupils and throughout it we plan exciting things for the children to take part in. We do try and give plenty of notice about forthcoming events but sometimes this is not possible, especially if we are not given the dates until the last minute. Our advice to you is to always
check your child’s school bag at the end of the school day—you may find notes from the teachers lurking in the bottom! We also post all letters that are sent home on our school website in the “letters
sent home” section as well as sending out correspondence and information directly to parents and carers by email or text. Monthly newsletters are published on our website: www.corshamprimary.co.uk/
News/Newsletters and also emailed out to parents and carers.
We understand that parents and carers lives are busy and hectic; we recognise that special school events like the Easter Bonnet Parade do bring added pressures. However, all the many different things we
organise are only done in the best interests of your child’s education. We want them to progress with their learning and remember their time at Corsham Primary as being both happy and rewarding.
If you have any queries about any aspect of school life, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Reminder
Please may we respectfully remind all drivers to approach the zebra crossings situated near Pound Pill with appropriate caution. Drivers must
give way when a pedestrian has moved onto a crossing and also look out for pedestrians waiting, so that they can slow down or stop in good time.
Thank you.

Outdoor Learning
Outdoor Learning is an umbrella term which covers every type of learning outdoors. This could be adventurous activities, environmental
education, team challenges, playground games and story time, to name but a few! At Corsham Primary, we appreciate the potential for
learning outside and the benefit this brings in the short and long term to the wellbeing of our children. To this end, we endeavour to teach
outside as regularly as the inclement weather allows!
Please ensure, therefore, that your child comes to school with a coat EVERY day so that we can use our amazing outdoor spaces at any
time, during any subject learning.
Sometimes the best classroom learning is in one without a ceiling!
PTA, PTA, PTA …

perishable foods into school.
We look forward to welcoming our Year 3
parents and carers to the assembly.
This year we are donating our

local people.
Tuck Reminder
We are very conscious that we have a number of pupils across both sites who
suffer with various food allergies. It is really important that our school community
understands the importance of abiding by the playtime healthy tuck.
Just in case you have forgotten, we
request that only plain biscuits or fruit are brought into school. Previously, some children have been bringing in yoghurt
tubes, breakfast bars, cheese strings etc that may have been in contact with, or contain nuts/dairy/egg. All these items contain elements that could cause an
allergic reaction in children who suffer from anaphylaxis. Due to the fact that we
cannot control every child’s movements on the playground and the risk of an accident is
high, we have instructed staff to remove ANY tuck that does not comply with the
school rule in order to safeguard our medically vulnerable children.
As parents and carers yourselves we know you will empathise with the
families of those children who suffer from allergies and ensure that you will
support this by sending in the appropriate tuck.
Please note that if your child requires a special diet due to having an
allergy or for other health reasons, we need a “Special Diet Request
form” filled out which must be substantiated by medical evidence
from your practitioner/dietician. Forms are available from the school
office and need to be returned so that our caterers, Chartwells, can
design an individual menu. If this process is not completed, and your
child does have an allergy etc., Chartwells will sadly not be able to
provide lunch for them.
Special Autumn Lunchtime
Menu Thursday 3 October
Hot dog or vegetarian hot dog with potato
wedges or
Mac ‘n’ cheese and baked beans or peas
followed by
Jam doughnut or frozen yoghurt
Thursday 3 October is the first national statutory Census of the academic year, where numbers and details of children are logged and collected by the
Department for Education and added to the national database.
The number of children taking a school lunch on this day has a direct correlation to the school budget. This is the reason we provide a special
menu.
Every year the children at both sites raise money on Indhu Rani Day for Chandra; herewith a
letter all the way from India ...
