The Brodick Bar & Brasserie

Whisky listIsle of Arran Whiskies

One of the few remaining independent distilleries in Scotland. Distilled near Lochranza, the Arran malts have a strong identity which can be attributed to traditional craftsmanship and a refusal to cut corners. At their core, the Arran malts can be characterised by rich fruit and honey flavours with the different expressions all having their own unique flavours.

Arran 10 year old 46% £5.60 The classic Arran malt with flavours of vanilla, apple, citrus and subtle oak.

Arran 14 year old 46% £7.00 A richer malt than the 10, finished in fresh sherry and bourbon hogsheads. Still fresh but with toffee-apple and raisin flavours deliciously balanced by the oak.

Arran 18 year old 46% £11.00 Luxurious and well rounded, toasted oak, vanilla and caramel mix with honeyed orchard fruit and a long, lingering finish. Ladies and gentlemen this is whisky!

Arran 21year old 46% £13.00 Elegant Arran malt with rich flavours of dark chocolate, grapefruit & ginger, matured in sherry casks.

Machrie Moor Bronze 46% £7.00 The peated Arran malt has elements of citrus and manages to be both zingy and earthy at the same time. Unusually sweet for a peated whisky, Machrie Moor is a hidden gem.

Machrie Moor Silver 56.2% £8.00 Cask strength version of the Machrie Moor with a robust, peaty flavour, and a stronger kick.

Arran Amarone Cask Finish 50% £7.00 Finished in Amarone casks for a wonderfully smooth, sweet and complex flavour. The fruitiness of the malt combines with the vino to create an accessible sipping malt that belies its high alcohol content.

Page 14: Sta ers - Brodick Bar and Brasserie, Isle of Arran...Arran Sauternes Cask Finish 50% £7.00 Sweet, sweet whisky. The sweet fruitiness of the Arran malt gets notched up by the influence

Arran Port Cask Finish 50% £7.00 Christmas pudding flavours combine with nuts, sweet honey and (of course) port. A warming dram that goes well with cheese.

Arran Sauternes Cask Finish 50% £7.00 Sweet, sweet whisky. The sweet fruitiness of the Arran malt gets notched up by the influence of the Sauternes cask bringing out the taste of pear, melon and marmalade. Perfect with dessert.

Arran Robert Burns Malt 43% £5.00 Light and fresh with a pleasant creaminess with a delicious spicy twist on the finish.

Arran the Bothy 53.2% £8.00 Cask strength and matured in first fill bourbon barrels then finished in quarter casks. This malt packs flavour. Citrus, spice and vanilla mingle with a surprising floral finish.

Arran 10 yr Private cask 46% £10.50 A rare 2004 distillation, aged for over 10 years in sherry hogshead no 2004/12. A smooth yet deep and complex dram. Delicate wood, dried fruit and a hint of cognac.

Arran 21 Year 1996 Claxtons 52.1% £16.00 Dsitilled in August 1996 and aged for 21 years in a sherry puncheon. A warm whisky with flavours of dates, plums, tobacco, honey and a delicate spiciness.

Arran 21st Anniversary Ltd Ed 52.6% £22.50

Released to mark the 21st aniversary of Arran distillery. Rich and well balanced, a masterclass in whisky making. Fully matured in ex-oloroso hogsheads using whisky from the first 3 years of production. Layers of rich tropical fruit, European oak, honey and hints of dark chocolate precede a long, lingering finish.

Campbeltown Whiskies

Just over the water on the Mull of Kintyre, Campbeltown was once a colossus of the whisky world with over 30 distilleries. Nowadays only three active distilleries remain.

Springbank 46% £6.50 Distilled using traditional methods, this is a robust malt influenced by bourbon and sherry casks. A citrus nose combines with flavours of smoke, vanilla, brine to make a robust, oily and well balanced malt.

Glen Scotia Victoriana 51.5% £10.50

Page 15: Sta ers - Brodick Bar and Brasserie, Isle of Arran...Arran Sauternes Cask Finish 50% £7.00 Sweet, sweet whisky. The sweet fruitiness of the Arran malt gets notched up by the influence

A very special whisky! Only the rarest and exceptional casks are hand selected by the malt master for an exceptionally well balanced malt created in the style of the Victorian era. Vanilla, cocoa, charred oak and caramelised fruit lead to a sweet and slightly smoky aftertaste.

Speyside WhiskiesLocated in the Highlands, the region contains a huge concentration of distilleries. Famed for their elegance and complex flavours, Speyside whiskies are less peaty than other Highland malts and usually fall into one of two camps; either big and sherried or light and subtle.

Balvenie Doublewood 12 year old 40% £6.50 Quite simply one of the finest distilleries in the world. The Doublewood is transferred from Bourbon to Sherry casks for an exceptionally well balanced and drinkable dram.

Balvenie 14 year old Caribbean Cask 40% £7.00

Benromach 46% £6.00 Warming with a pleasant oily smokiness. A traditional old school malt!

Beinn Dubh 43% £10.50 This black whisky is from the Speyside distillery and takes its name from Ben Macdul, the highest Cairngorm peak. Caramel, toasty, soy & burnt raisins.

Cragganmore 12 year old 40% £5.60 Light, spicy and sweet with a citrus and floral aroma and a light maltiness. Makes an excellent aperitif.

Dalmore 15 year old 40% £8.80 Deep, warming, rich and complex, the 15 year old is big on flavour. Blood orange, toffee, tobacco, more toffee and fruit cake. A classy dram indeed!

Glenfarclas 15 yr 46% £7.00 Simply stunning! An intensely deep, sherried, flavoursome malt. We suspect that a considerable amount of the spirit that goes into this whisky is significantly older than 15years. Deep flavours of raisins mix with layers of sherry, American oak, caramel and a touch of bourbon. Think Christmas cake.

Glenrothes Select reserve 43% £6.00

Linkwood 1997 20yr Signatory 56% £13.00 A very exciting and complex dram. This bottling has a delightful fresh edge not often found in malts of this seniority. Freshly cut grass and apple peel quickly give way to subtle oak, vanilla and gentle spice. Rich without being overpowering, this expression is exactly how a 20 year old Linkwood should taste.

Page 16: Sta ers - Brodick Bar and Brasserie, Isle of Arran...Arran Sauternes Cask Finish 50% £7.00 Sweet, sweet whisky. The sweet fruitiness of the Arran malt gets notched up by the influence

The Macallan Gold 40 % £7.40 Produced from 9-15 year old sherry casks. A delicate dram that showcases this distillery perfectly. A citrusy aroma accompanies tastes of vanilla, orange zest, boiled sweets and subtle wood.

The Macallan Amber 40% £8.50 Soft and fruity, less citrus and more full bodied than the gold. Initial flavours of dates, cinnamon toast and mince pies give way to strong vanilla, sherried oak, cereal and a dry finish.

Mortlach Rare Old 43.4% £7.40 Not as much of a sherry bomb as some Mortlach expressions. Complex, warming and spicy, the Rare Old is a robust and hearty dram. Toffee, caramel, dark fruits and crème brûlée. Another cracker from this criminally underexposed distillery.

Tamnavulin 40% £5.00 Smooth, mellow and sweet leading to a rich sherry finish. Peaches and cream, yellow plum with a hint of molasses or brown sugar. Very much in the traditional Speyside taste.

The Singleton of Dufftown 12 yr 40% £5.60 Another unde-appreciated malt. Aged mostly in European oak, this is one of our favourites. Toffee, barley and buttery flavours with a short fruity and oaky finish. Simply well made whisky.

Islay Whiskies

Characterised by smokiness, iodine flavours and a high level of peat, the Islay malts have a unique identity. Rarely subtle, unmistakable and not for everybody. As Jim Murray once said: 'Either you are for or you are agin'!

Ardbeg 46% £6.00 Smokey peat, bonfires, tar and iodine. Maybe not flavours that spring to mind as delicious but my goodness, what a dram! Potent and flavoursome yet the oily peatiness doesn't overpower the malt. To put it simply: if you love Islay malts then you love Ardbeg.

Ardbeg Corryvyreckan 57.1% £9.00 Taking its name from the famous whirlpool North of Islay where only the bravest souls dare to venture, this malt may be even deeper and complex than its namesake. A kaleidoscope of different flavours, intense peat, brine, pine needles, marmalade iodine and a long woody finish.

Bowmore 12 year old 40% £5.00 Complex and well balanced, honey, lemon and blossom balance beautifully with Bowmore's trademark peaty smokiness. Relaxed elegance.

Page 17: Sta ers - Brodick Bar and Brasserie, Isle of Arran...Arran Sauternes Cask Finish 50% £7.00 Sweet, sweet whisky. The sweet fruitiness of the Arran malt gets notched up by the influence

Bruichladdich The classic Laddie 50% £6.50 Un-peated expression (though we think you can still can taste peat in it!). Quite a young spirit with a nice freshness and some complex flavours. Sweet honeyed barley, tropical fruits, samphire and saddle leather.

Bunnahabhain 12 year old 46.3% £5.60 Very oaky and pleasantly warming. Tastes like an older whisky. Not as in your face as other Islay malts. Flavours of Bourbon and sherry with a hint of smoke.

Caol Isla 43% £7.00 Smokey and peaty with potent though not overpowering phenols. A great ambassador for Islay. Floral notes intertwine with smoke, there is a definite salinity from the sea and a pleasant oiliness that pairs well with food.

Lagavulin 16 yr 43% £8.50 A smokey peaty whisky of astounding quality. The peat manages to be profound yet delicate. Rich, dry, oily, sweet and salty, definite iodine all wrapped up in layers of smoke. There is simply nothing else like it. A classic.

Laphroaig 10 yr 40% £6.00 A classic whisky with a massive flavour. Not for the faint hearted. Oily and smokey with the medicinal flavours of TCP and iodine. Sooty, peaty and sweet. Laphroig is a whisky that fights back.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask 48% £6.50 So the good people at Laphroaig apparently thought that they needed to add more flavour? Double matured, first in oak then finished in specially commissioned quarter casks which have a greater surface to whisky ratio for extra flavour. Sweet with layers of peat and smoke. An exceptional example of what to expect from this distillery.

Laphroaig Select 40% £5.60 A toned down restrained expression of Laphroaig. Matured in a combination of Oloroso sherry butts, American white oak, hogsheads seasoned with Pedro Ximenez, quarter casks and first fill bourbon casks. The result is smoother than the usual Laphroaig. The beast is tamed, but it's still a beast!

Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Scottish Barley 50% £8.50 Heavily peated with gentle smoke. Not a balanced whisky though it doesn't pretend to be. A peat monster with a younger, fresher feel than most other Islay malts. With a nose of industrial antiseptic and pineapple and flavours of sweet barley and smoke. Manages to be both smooth and fiery at the same time.

Page 18: Sta ers - Brodick Bar and Brasserie, Isle of Arran...Arran Sauternes Cask Finish 50% £7.00 Sweet, sweet whisky. The sweet fruitiness of the Arran malt gets notched up by the influence

Highland and Island Whiskies

Ardmore Legacy 40% £5.60 Very peaty for a Highland malt. The Legacy atriculates the character of this distillery perfectly. Citrus meets peat. There is some vanilla in there and marmalade. A complex dram.

Cu Dhub 40% £8.80 Known as the Black Dog. Not much is known about this one as the distillery no longer exists. This is the darkest malt we have ever seen! With rum like flavours, this is one for the adventurous!

Dalwhinnie 15 year old 43% £6.00 Exceptionally well balanced malt. Simple but flawless. Light fruit, heather and honey. An elegant classic.

Glenfiddich 15 year old 40% £6.00 Matured in Bourbon, sherry & virgin oak, the whisky is then married with Solera vat to create sherry, orange and dried fruit notes.

Glen Garrioch 6 year old 2010 46% £6.00 A strong tasting whisky taken from a single hogshead cask. Fresh tasting with flavours of cookie dough and sweet malt along with citrus friut and a touch of spice.

Glengoyne 10 yr 40% £5.60 Toffee apples, cereal, intense and perfectly balanced

Glengoyne 15 yr 43% £6.50 Rich and heavily toffeed. Luxuriously thick and oily with a strong sherry influence that works well with the oak. Cosy and warming. Smooth, sweet and malty.

Glenmorangie 40% £5.60 Crafted in the Glen of Tranquility by the sixteen men of Tain. Elegant, accessible yet with very complex flavours. A genuine timeless classic from one of the most consistent distilleries in the world.

Highland Park 12 yr 40% £8.50 This is the good stuff, not the new inferior stock in the fancy bottle. One of the finest drams known to man. From Scotland's northernmost distillery. Well balanced, full bodied and dry with a perfect balance of smokiness. Unfortunately now discontinued, when it's gone it's gone.

Highland Park Dragon Legend 40% £5.60 This bold malt has an intense smokiness and tastes of fruitcake. A very long sherry cask finish.

Page 19: Sta ers - Brodick Bar and Brasserie, Isle of Arran...Arran Sauternes Cask Finish 50% £7.00 Sweet, sweet whisky. The sweet fruitiness of the Arran malt gets notched up by the influence

Jackson’s Row (Glenkinchie) 40% £6.00 Experimental malt from Glenkinchie. Very light in colour with a very unusual, light but complex, flavour.

Jura 10 year old 40% £5.00 Superbly drinkable whisky from the Isle of Jura. Light and fruity with some darker notes of bourbon and sherry and a hint of smoke.

Oban 14 yr old 43% £7.40 Full bodied and fruity with a rich malty smokiness. Soft and smooth and eminently drinkable.

Old Pultney 40% £5.60 Clean tasting and zesty with the trademark slight saltiness associated with this distillery. There are honey notes along with banana skin.

Scapa Skiren 40% £6.50 Lovely Orcadian, full-bodied malt matured 100% first fill American oak casks. Robust but smooth, with mellow fruits and heather honey

Talisker 10 year old 45.8% £6.00 Classic dram from the Isle of Skye. A fresh fragrant nose belies a robust full bodied taste. Think bonfires, pungent smoke, kippers, seaweed and fiery peppery spices. There’s an underlying sweetness and a long finish. This is no shrinking violet.

Blended Whisky

Rock Oyster 46.8% £6.00 Blended from Island malts including Arran, Orkney, Jura and Islay. Rock Oyster is a spicy, salty whisky with hints of vanilla, leather and liquorice. An excellent ambassador for island whisky!

The Six Isles 43% £5.00 A blend of six single malts, one from each of the whisky producing Scottish islands. Arran, Islay,

Jura, Mull, Orkney and Skye are all represented here in this cracking blended Scotch whisky. There

is peat and seaweed. Some sweetness and subtle iodine. It's not complex but it is good!

Lochranza Founders Reserve 40% £5.60 The bond holders first blended whisky to be based on the Arran Malt

Famous Grouse 16 year old 40% £6.00 Double matured blend

Page 20: Sta ers - Brodick Bar and Brasserie, Isle of Arran...Arran Sauternes Cask Finish 50% £7.00 Sweet, sweet whisky. The sweet fruitiness of the Arran malt gets notched up by the influence
