My dear Parishioners, The worship center is dark; each parishioner holds an unlit candle. The pastor enters with a single lighted candle and begins lighting the candles of those at the ends of the pews. In turn, they light the candles of the people next to them, and so on. Slowly, the room is aglow in the light of a thousand candles, all lit from a single flame. As the pastor approaches the altar, we are careful to take notice that the candle he carried in has not changed in the least, and could light even another thousand can-dles. It is that way when we speak of God's love; no matter how often we share it, our own love grows brighter and stronger. Through the example of one candle lighting a thousand, we are able to better appreciate the Gospel. After the Resur-rection, Jesus summons the eleven disciples to a mountain in Galilee. There, he gives them the Great Commission, to go out into the world and baptize all in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Jesus could have appeared to thou-sands, yet he knew these eleven "candles" would be capable of following his commandments and spreading his promise of eter-nal life. Today is the feast of the Most Holy Trinity, a remembrance of Christ's directive of a new mission for his followers to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that this mandate is our invitation to join in the one family of God, fully united and complete (cf. CCC 959). Two thousand years ago, twelve men set out, tasked with beginning the fulfillment of the New Covenant by bringing all who would believe into the loving arms of God. To-day, turn to others and offer them the light of life. Fr. Greg

Please pray for the repose of the souls of those who died:

Please pray for the sick and injured:

What significance does the feast of the Most Holy Trinity

have on our identity and mission as disciples of Jesus?

When speaking of the Trinity, the nature of mystery always

surfaces. The meaning and significance of mystery can puzzle us. If

we cannot understand or appreciate it, what difference does it make

for our faith lives? This is the challenge any homilist faces on this

feast. As humans we desire to understand, no matter how mysteri-

ous. Thus, we attempt to articulate meaning while acknowledging

our limited capacity to do so. Thoughts and language seem so lim-

ited when attempting to explain the Trinity.

Jesus provides the best avenue to Trinitarian understanding.

As God incarnate, Jesus manifests to us the fullness of God, while

being fully one of us. Jesus, who knows our daily human struggles,

models for us how to live full human lives in conformity with God's

desires and intentions. Love of others without restrictions or stipula-

tions always guided Jesus' words and deeds, which communicate

the very essence of God's being. Love of others is at the heart of our

love for God and God's love for us. Jesus' Spirit supports, guides,

and strengthens us to try again when we fail to love one another.

What is the Trinity? It is God who creates, loves and sus-

tains us with unending love for all time. God, in the person of Jesus

and through the Spirit's power, invites us to respond in love while

reaching out to others.

How is Jesus a guide in exploring the mystery of the

Trinity?

ceased , and our parishioners who

Stewardship is what I do after I say “I believe!”

The Christian Community, described in the Acts of the Apostles, understood and practiced stewardship. The be-lievers did not claim anything as their own, but held every-thing in common, and distributed to each whatever was needed.

YEAR FOR PRIESTS

Pope Benedict XVI has called a special Year for Priests to begin on June

designed to strengthen the “missionary identity” of all Catholic priests. During the

Year for Priests, the Holy Father will formally proclaim the Curé of Ars as the

patron saint of all the world’s priests.
