From the Pen of Father Len

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Titus Parish,

Praised be Jesus Christ—now and Forever! Well, here we are in the month of June. The month of June is liturgically dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is also the month that the Church, generally speaking, begins the celebration of Ordinary Time. Our world (especially the United States) is in a terrible state right now. We just are still working with the Coronavirus. And now, we have all this rioting and looting going on over the death of a black man by a white police officer. So, just for a little levity, I thought I would share a little story with you. It’s not a serious article. It’s just meant to give you a little chuckle during these trying times. It is, however, a true story. Have any of you had a recurring dream? I’ve actually had a number of them. I’d like to share one of them with you. I don’t know why I have this dream, especially because it’s a stupid dream that has no basis in reality. The dream goes like this: I guess I’m about anywhere from 12 to 20 years old. I’m at my Aunt Clara’s house standing in her sitting room which is next to her dining room. I seem to be talking to someone, but I don’t know who they are in the dream. Well, while I’m standing there, this big, old, ugly gorilla comes out of the living room (which is on the opposite side of the dining room). The gorilla starts pounding its chest and jumps on the dining room table and starts coming after me. At this point, I’m petrified and start running out the door. I’m outside the door on my Aunt Clara’s porch. In front of me is a swimming pool that goes across Stiles Street. (Why there’s a swimming pool there in the middle of the street, I don’t know. Hey—it’s a dream. In a dream, anything is possible!) Well, at this point I am so scared, that the gorilla is chasing me, I jump off my aunt’s porch and because I’m running so fast, I’m actually running on the water. I get about halfway across the swimming pool, and then begin to sink. And that ’s it! The dream ends there. The gorilla never catches me! Hope you enjoyed the story. I’ve had this dream at least 6 or 7 times. It’s exactly the same thing each time. Why? I don’t know. As I said, I share it with you to hopefully make you laugh a little bit during these difficult times. So, please don’t report me to the State Hospital! We’re now in the yellow stage of the coronavirus restrictions. We’ll start slow with our Masses. Hopefully, we’ll see many of you in church again. May God continue to bless you with His Holy Spirit.

Peace, Fr. Len

ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESUMPTION OF PUBLIC MASSES AT ST. TITUS CHURCH May 28, 2020

Great news! Archbishop Pérez has announced that parishes of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will be able to resume public Masses beginning the weekend of June 6 and 7, if properly prepared per directives. We at St. Titus Parish look forward to welcoming you back and anticipate celebrating our first public Mass on Monday, June 8th! Please join us for our first public Sunday Mass on June 14th. Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus as we make our way back to the in person celebration of the Mass.

While our county remains in the Yellow Phase of statewide reopening, all of us need to do our part to make sure that our return to Mass is a peaceful and safe experience for all. Please take the time to read the instructions below. We ask everyone to follow these guidelines when attending Mass during this period:

ST. JOHN’S HOSPICE CASSEROLE PROGRAM St. Titus Parish has been making casseroles for St. John’s Hospice in Center City Philadelphia for over 35 years. The casseroles are the “Main Course” of a complete, hot meal that is served to hundreds of God’s poor and homeless who come to St. John’s for their daily bread. Please do not feel restricted to the recipes which can be found on the recipe sheets near the casserole pan in the vestibule. Your favorite recipe is most welcome! So are store bought casseroles such as Stouffers or Oncor. St. John’s provides us with pans and lids for your dishes. If you provide your own, please use a standard “half tray”. Each casserole serves 6-8 men. Each month, St. John’s picks up the dishes from our freezer. Here are some useful hints: Please bring your casseroles frozen

to church and put them in the freezer located in the vestibule of the Social Hall. If the door to the Social Hall is locked, please leave the casserole with a sacristan or maintenance.

Prepare your recipe so that it can be eaten with a plastic “spork” (a combination spoon and fork).

Please mark the lid with the main ingredients and date you prepared your casserole.

Keep those casseroles coming! St. John’s Hospice has notified us that they will continue to make pickups during the COVID-19 crisis. The need is great especially now.
