SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - JULY 23, 2017

Dear Parishioners and Friends: We Shall Overcome! For Jesus, only the pa ent and

forgiving can sing: “We shall overcome.” We proclaim this message whenever we celebrate the Eucharist. It is in the sacrament that we see a Jesus who exercised forgiveness and understanding at the me of His passion. The Eucharist offers a Jesus who con nues to pray: “My blood will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins,” The Eucharist demonstrates that to die to self in forgiveness is to experience the ul mate human libera on. The Eucharist, too, proclaims that only the pa ent, tolerant, and forgiving can sing: “We shall overcome.” May God bless you and your family with peace and forgiveness.

Sincerely yours, Fr. John Sakowski

Reflec on on the Gospel

Whoever has ears, ought to hear!

The three readings today draw a en on to our inner quali es of strength, inspira on, and ability. The first parable tells us about the presence of evil. Our lives may be seen as “weeds among the wheat.” We need to be pa ent because the weeds will eventually be separated from the wheat. The second and third parables change things and make a big difference in the environment. Like yeast in the dough, God’s power is within us and radiates outward. As a Chris an, do I radiate the message of hope? The parable of the mustard seed tells us that small things can make a difference. Our task this week is to bring a friend to Christ.
