St. Teresa of Avila Parish Mission Statement

We of St. Teresa of Avila Parish have been called together by God as a worshipping community. Embracing the traditions of our Catholic Faith, we are challenged to teach Gospel Truths and to serve our neighbors. We seek to recognize Christ in each person, and together be a sign of His presence in the world. Through prayer and guidance of the Holy Spirit and through collective use of our individual gifts, we strive to reach out lovingly to others, share our Catholic values, and build the kingdom of God in our time and place.

Scripture Readings for the Week

Sunday Sunday of Divine Mercy Acts 2:42-47 1 Pt 1:3-9 Jn. 20:19-31 Monday Acts 4:23-31: Jn 3:1-8 Tuesday Acts 4 :32-37; Jn 3:7b-15 Wednesday Acts 5:17-26; Jn 3:16-21 Thursday Acts 5:27-33; Jn 3:31-36 Friday Acts 5:34-42; Jn 6:1-15 Saturday 1 Pt 5:5b-14; Mk 16:15-20 Sunday Third Sunday of Easter Acts 2:14, 22-23 1 Pt 1:17-21 Lk 24:13-35

Reflection on Divine Mercy From Creation, God has revealed his nature as love itself, in Sacred Scripture and most perfectly in the life, Passion, death and Resurrection of his Son, Jesus. Saints have also borne wit-ness to God’s unfathomable love, e.g., in the writings of Augus-tine, Aquinas, Catharine of Siena, Francis of Assisi, Margaret Mary Alacoque and Therese of Lisieux. In his second encyclical, Rich and Mercy, Pope Saint Paul John II offers an extended mediation on the mystery of God’s mercy, which he calls “the greatest of the attributes and perfections of God” (Dives in Misericordia, 13). He returned to this theme throughout his pontificate: As a gift to humanity, which some-times seems bewildered and overwhelmed by the power of evil, selfishness, and fear, the Risen Lord offers His love that pardons, reconciles, and reopens hearts to love. It is a love that converts hearts and gives peace. How much the world needs to under-stand and accept Divine Mercy! Lord, who reveals the Father’s love by Your death and Resurrec-tion, we believe in You and confidently repeat to You today: Je-sus, I trust in You, have mercy upon us and upon the whole world.

UPDATE

Public Masses

Suspended Through

May 3, 2020

April 2, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Today (April 2, 2020) Governor Mike DeWine extended the executive

“Stay at Home Order” to continue to curb the spread of the Coronavirus

in the State of Ohio. Out of deep concern for the common good, as well

as the physical and spiritual well-being of all the people of Ohio, the

Catholic Bishops of Ohio have agreed once again to cooperate with the

governor’s direction.

To that end, the Catholic Bishops of Ohio extend the temporary suspen-

sion of all publicly celebrated Masses/liturgies at least through and in-

cluding Sunday May 3rd. The Bishops of Ohio dispense the Catholic

faithful who reside in their respective dioceses and all other Catholics

currently in Ohio from the obligation of attending Sunday Mass during

this time period.

This decision has not been taken lightly and, as your bishops, together

with you, we recognize the sacrifice we are called to make by being

physically distanced from the Holy Eucharist and from one another.

Trusting in the graces flowing from the celebration of the passion, death

and resurrection of Our Lord, we remain mindful of the hope that does

not disappoint. As your bishops, we continue to encourage you to keep

holy the Lord’s Day by participating in Sunday Mass by way of televised,

live-streamed, or radio broadcast options and making a spiritual com-

munion. Keeping in mind the gift of plenary indulgences offered to us by

the Church, we encourage all the faithful to turn to the Church’s treas-

ury of prayer, praying as a family or individually the rosary, divine mer-

cy chaplet, the Liturgy of the Hours and Stations of the Cross, etc.

Please join us in praying for all who are suffering from the Coronavirus,

for all health care workers and first responders, and for an easing of the

anxiety and tension caused by this pandemic. Relying on the Motherly

care of Our Lady, Health of the Sick, we unite our sufferings to those of

Our Lord Jesus Christ, and we trust in the glorious hope of His resurrec-

tion.

You are in my prayers daily. Please pray for me.

Your father in Christ,

Most Reverend Dennis M. Schnurr

Archbishop of Cincinnati

We look forward to when Mass is no longer suspended and

we can celebrate together again at both

April 19, 2020

Dear Families of our Pastoral Region:

This weekend we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, a beautiful reminder of God’s ultimate forgiveness of

our sinfulness our limitations. But it is also a reminder that we ourselves are struggling to own those weak-

nesses and by so doing remove them from our hearts, our behavior. We need to live lives transformed by the

resurrection to rise in the savior’s beauty to become beautiful ourselves. These days that sounds hard to imag-

ine and yet it is exactly in that reality that we find the loving presence of our creator calling us to be hopeful,

calling us to be better.

Be the people of God, the Body of Christ, the Church. Find it within yourselves to be that ray of Hope

that allows others around you to see the Risen Savior. This is not only Christ’s resurrection but our own.

Please choose to live it, please choose to own it!

Know that you are all in my heart and prayers as we continue to adjust our lives to keep each other safe

from harm and lift each other up in spirit and love. Please join me in praying for all of those affected by the

virus, all those grieving, or feeling anxious and alone, and for all of those working tirelessly to safeguard all

that we know and love. May our Loving God bless us all with an unending and enduring sense of Love for

each other and for Him!

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Reverend Michael L. Bidwell

Pastor

St. Teresa Stewardship

Although we are not able to come together and celebrate Mass at

this time your stewardship is so very important to support the

church and school year round. During this time that we are

asked to stay home and put all fundraising events on hold

your assistance is needed all the more. Online payment

options are now available for your weekly or monthly contribu-

tions. Knowing that many are struggling with job loss or reduced

wages, we understand that this may be a difficult time for you.

We hope, if you are able, that you will continue your support of

our parish. You can mail checks, drop off your envelope in the

parish office mailbox, or go online to our website at

www.stteresa-avila.org and click on the “GIVING” button to con-

tribute by PayPal or credit card. Remember to include your en-

velope number with any contribution made without your enve-

lope so it can be included in your end of year statement. ACH/

Automatic Giving is also available for those who would like to

have your stewardship contribution automatically deducted by

week or month year round. There is no cost to you and you can

change or stop at any time. This does save the parish money on

envelopes and you do not have to write checks or remember to

bring envelopes to Mass. Please contact the parish office if you

would like more information on ACH payments - the form is also

available on the donation page of our website. Thank you to all

those who have been dropping off or mailing donations to the

PICK UP

UPDATE First and foremost THANK YOU for ordering flowers from St. Teresa Youth Group. We want to assure you during this time of uncertainty, we are making several adjustments to how we receive, handle, and distribute the flowers. With the restrictions in place due to COVID-19 we are also mak-ing changes for pickup which are very different from years’ past, and modeled after what some garden centers have currently adopted.

In order to keep you and all of our volunteers safe, PLEASE DO NOT SHOW UP ON SATURDAY, APRIL 25 to collect your order - we are not permitted to have customers in the building. It is very important for everyone’s safety that you respect the procedure and rules and wait to be called. We will be working with a minimal number of adult volun-teers and appreciate your patience and understanding.

1. We will reach out to you as soon as your order is able to be pulled and that may be earlier than Satur-day as stock arrives.

2. If you are able to pick up someone else’s order, please let us know at that time.

3. If you cannot come at the time you are called, we will hold your order for you.

4. Someone will be in the parking lot when you arrive directing you where to park. Please do not get out of your car. Your order will be brought out to you and you will not have to leave your vehicle.

5. If you are unable to leave your house to pick up your order, we are offering delivery. Please call Kathy at 513-265-4191 or Jen at 513-520-2964 to arrange delivery—we will need your address and confirma-tion you will be home.

6. At time of pick up or delivery we appreciate payment by check (preferred) or cash—please know we are not giving change for cash payments. You will be asked to put your payment in an envelope that corresponds to your order number and place it in a box.

We want to ensure we keep everyone safe as flowers are distributed. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation! Please see our website for additional details: http://www.stteresa.net/youth-group/

The Deacon’s Corner

A reflection for this week “The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment shall touch them. They seemed, in the view of the foolish, to be dead; and

their passing away was thought an affliction and their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace.” from the Book of Wisdom 3:1-3

I will admit to being a little superstitious about some things. I think that I inherited it from my mom. She was always sensitive to signs or occurrences that pointed to something else. Lately, the occurrence that has caught my attention has been a bright red cardinal that has landed on the railing of our deck. It hap-pened two days in a row several weeks ago when my Uncle Paul died. Two days ago it happened again when my brother-in-law Jack died. In this last instance, the cardinal landed and stayed for a few minutes at about the same time in the morning that Jack died. The odd thing is that while we do have several families of cardinals in the neighborhood, they never come close to the house at any other time. The writer of the Book of Wisdom offers the assurance that when a person dies, their soul is in God’s care. It is a reminder that at our conception we are created to ultimately be in God’s presence when our earthly life is over. It is a reminder that we are created body and soul so that when our worn-out bodies are laid to rest in the earth, our souls live on in eternity. I like to think that God uses the cardinals as messengers to let family members know that the one who has been taken from us is going to be okay. Whatever pain or suffering the person endured in this life has given way to joy and freedom in God’s presence. A prayer: Lord God, we always praise you and thank you for your boundless love and mercy. Thank you for giving us your little feathered messengers who stop by to remind us that those who have been taken from us are in your care. Bless and console those who mourn the loss of their loved one. We pray in Jesus’ Holy Name. Amen ~Deacon Dave Steinwert

The St. William St. Vincent de Paul Pan-try is still operating, but not as usual. Because of the Coronavirus, we are helping those in need with paying rent and Duke Energy bills by phone every day. So far we have helped everyone

who has requested help. We are meeting the need for food by either meeting them at the pantry DOOR or delivering to their home and leaving items by their door. Your help in allowing us to continue to assist others is greatly appreciated. You may make your donation to St. Vincent de Paul and mail it to the Parish Center. You are in our prayers and ask God to keep you all safe. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

An Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus,

I believe that You

are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there

and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

The Lenten series that was planned for the

month of March, “The Mass” with Bishop Barron

had to be postponed. We sincerely hope that

when new dates are announced that you will be

drawn to attend. If you would like more infor-

mation please contact Dcn. George Bruce at

[email protected].

The series description: Walk through the Liturgy with Bishop Barron and be transformed through insights on this most privi-leged and intimate encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ. See how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and into the heavenly realm, how it resonates with a call from God and a response from his people, the Church, and, most importantly, how we are intimately joined with the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus through the Holy Eucharist. The Mass will help you understand how to fully, consciously, and actively partici-pate in the source and summit of the Christian life. Bishop Robert Barron is the founder of Word on Fire Catholic Minis-tries and Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He is also the host of CATHOLICISM, a groundbreaking, award-winning documentary about the Catholic Faith, which aired on public television.

St. Teresa Vacation Bible School “Jesus’ Power Pulls Us Through” If it is determined that we are able to hold Vacation Bible School this year it will take place the week of July 6-10. Please mark your calendars and stay tuned for more information in the com-ing months.

THANK YOU to the following people

for bringing a beautiful Easter Mass

to our region by way of Facebook Live

and on our websites:

We very much appreciate the time and effort

to allow us to share in the Mass together. With Gratitude and Joy we thank you!
