This Sunday we celebrate the Second Scrutiny Rite. The

Gospel concerns the beggar who was blind from birth. Jesus heals the man of his blindness so he can see. The Pharisees

(the Jewish religious leaders) interrogated the man and his parents. The Pharisees concluded that because Jesus healed the man on the Sabbath, He could not be of God since the Sabbath is a day of rest. The man who Jesus healed worshiped Jesus even though the penalty for worshiping Jesus was expulsion from the synagogue.

Like the blind man, we too were blind and could not see. Before we came to know and follow our Lord, we stumbled in the darkness and didn't follow the light. But, in His infinite love, God healed us, gave us sight, and set us on the path toward the light through the sacramental life of the Church. Like the man who was blind, we should worship and follow Jesus, regardless of the cost. On Tuesday in RCIA, we will study The Lord's Prayer and our Saint of the Day will be Saint Maximilian.

"RCIA" stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It's the process by which adults come into full communion with the Catholic Church by receiving their Sacraments of Initiation. It's free, childcare is provided, we have a lot of fun and we always have something good to eat. If you have questions, feel free to email me at [email protected].

Que María, que es Madre de misericordia, nos ponga en el corazón la certeza de que somos amados por Dios;

Hermana Gertrudis Muñoz Mendieta I.C.A.S.

Over the past few weeks we have received a number of inquiries from customers and supporters asking if we ever solicit donations via telephone. Apparently there are people out there calling and asking for donations to Helping Hands. Fortunately none of the people we have spoken with have fallen for this scam and we pray that none of you do either. Helping Hands NEVER calls soliciting funds. We rely solely on donations from the public. In fact, we do not even conduct fundraisers to try to get extra money. All that we are able to do is done so because it is a GIFT from YOU and we cannot thank you enough for your ongoing, very generous support of the poor through Helping Hands. A phone call we received recently: “I wanted to leave a message to whoever is in charge of the wonderful people that did the pickup on Monday at the American Legion. They were so wonderful and so cooperative that I just can’t say enough and I just wanted you to know how much we appreciated them. Thank you and bless you all for what you do.” We certainly are blessed to have some pretty wonderful volunteers and it makes us feel good to know that they are appreciated. Thank you very much!
