Dress an Angel Each year Helping Hands and the St. Stephen’s Women’s
Organization coordinate the “Dress an Angel” project. The families that are chosen to be recipients of this project have been helped by
Helping Hands of Midland in the past and are in need but are not receiving any assistance from any other agency or organization for the holidays. These families will receive a gift certificate to buy food for Thanksgiving and Christmas, a bag of
presents for each child as well as toys. Beginning Saturday November 4th 2017, the children of these families become our Angels and are available to be chosen by
you, the parishioners. After mass, some members of the Women’s Organization will be in the foyer near the “Angels” banner to assist you in signing up to buy
Christmas presents, clothing and a fun toy for the Angel or Angels of your choice. Directions will be handed out with the Angel card as well as a bag in which you
should place your Christmas wrapped presents. Our phone number is on the Angel card in case you have any questions or a problem. We do accept donations of money if you prefer not to shop. Thank you so much
for your support! These children in need will receive Christmas presents because of YOU!
God bless, Carmen Rodelo and Leticia Gutierrez

RCIA meets in the ballroom on Tuesdays from 6:45 - 8:45 p.m., but we will not meet this Tuesday (October 31st) so that we may prepare to celebrate The Solemnity of All Saints on November 1st. The following Tuesday (November 7), Deacon Luis Mata will teach us about the Sacraments with a focus on the
Sacrament of Baptism. The Sacraments are God's gift to help us live godly lives. They are Sacred Mysteries and visible signs of God's love for us. Our Saint of the Day will be Saint Jude.
"RCIA" stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It's the process by which adults come into full communion with the Catholic Church by receiving their Sacraments of Initiation. It's free, childcare is provided, we have a lot of fun and we always have something good to eat. If you have questions, feel free to email me at [email protected].

Hermana Gertrudis Muñoz Mendieta I.C.A.S.

One of our volunteers recently invited a daughter who was visiting from out of state to shop in our thrift store. The woman bought several items and when she found out the final price she was taken aback. She told her mother that we were selling the items way too cheap. The clothes were of such fine quality that we could easily have charged four times the amount and we would still be selling them at hugely discounted prices. The mother explained to her daughter that we are blessed with an abundance of donations – in fact we get so many clothes that if we don’t sell them for pennies on the dollar they would pile up and we would soon be inundated and run out of room. But beyond that, there are other reasons why we sell them as cheaply as we do: our clients are oftentimes the poor, who cannot afford to shop in retail stores. We feel they should be entitled to wear the finest apparel that we can offer them. Many of the clothes are bought and taken to Mexico to be shared with family members who many times wear little more than rags. Many a missionary group has purchased clothing in our store to be taken to orphanages in Mexico or South America. The clothing that we do not sell is baled and shipped to Houston. From there the clothing is again sorted. Items that are no longer wearable are sold and converted into shop rags and lining for carpeting. Clothing that is still of good use is shipped to developing countries around the world. Even though we receive those huge volumes, absolutely none of it ever goes to waste. Should a person bring in donations and ask specifically that they be given away and not sold, we will honor that request. We regularly donate clothing to men and women recently coming out of prison or half-way houses, to victims of fire and theft, and to people needing clothing to start new jobs. Of course the clothes are also available to thrift shoppers of any economic situation who are just out for a good deal. Our women’s clothing sports such name brands as Chico, Talbots and Michael Kors. Our men’s clothing is comparable in quality. We know that the kind people who donate items to Helping Hands do so because they buy into our philosophy of serving the poor. We are all volunteers so there are no salaries to be paid. Our overhead is extremely low. We can afford to take the items that are donated to us and pass them on to those in need, in turn using the proceeds from those sales to help others in need with their rent, utilities and medical bills. We believe that is exactly what you want us to do, and we bless you for your generosity.
