My Brothers and Sisters,
At the end of this coming week we encounter two days of the church calendar that remind us of the Communion of Saints. We state our belief in this communion every time we say the Apostle’s Creed. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that this communion consists of “… pilgrims on earth. Others have died and are being purified, while still others are in glory, contemplating ‘in full light, God himself triune and one, exactly as he is”. (CCC: 954). It is at this time of the year the reality of this communion is called attention to. The church calls to mind our, the pilgrims on earth, connection with the souls in purgatory and the saints in heaven. We are all, saints, souls, and pilgrims, united in life and death with Jesus Christ.
This Thursday, Nov 1, we call to mind all those who have gone before us and share in the Divine Presence in heaven. The saints, those who have been named and the unknown, are there to pray for us and to intercede with God on our behalf. St Therese of Lisieux said “I want to spend my heaven in doing good on earth”. St Dominic said to his brothers as he was dying, “Do not weep, for I shall be more useful to you after my death and I shall help you then more effectively than during my life.” The saints are our allies in heaven. We are called to emulate the saints here on earth by prayer and good works. In some areas at one point in time, on the eve of All Saints day, the people dressed up as saints and processed to church to rejoice in those who had achieved eternal peace.
On Friday, All Souls Day, we will call to mind all those who have gone before us but need some purification before entering heaven. It is our belief that through our prayers and good works we can hasten their release into God’s presence. In turn the souls can offer their prayers for we pilgrims here on earth. It is through us all uniting in our love for Christ that we aid one another.
Let us continue to pray for one another and for all our loved ones who have gone before us. I saw a humorous way to remember who is in the Communion of Saints – All Saints, All Souls, and All Sorts.
Peace,
Paz,
From Deacon Bill Warmouth

Commitment Sunday Have you ever wondered if the offertory during Mass was more than a collection device for your envelope? Well, it is! The offertory is part of our Liturgy and it is our invitation to participate and respond with an offering of time, talent or treasure. Stewardship provides an outline for this discernment. Ask yourself each week: Who can I pray for around me? How can I serve in ministry? How much can I give to provide for His mission? As you prayerfully discern your intention for next year, we hope you will find the Stewardship Intention Card as your invitation to grow spiritually with this parish community!
Parish Respect Life Committee The Church celebrates Respect Life Sunday on the first Sunday

7th Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive
For the 7th year, our parish community is preparing 25 Thanksgiving meals for needy families in the area. These meals will be distributed by Catholic Charities in Des Plaines. This weekend, food donation reminder slips are located at all entrances to the church. Envelopes for monetary donations to purchase the turkeys and rolls are also available. You may bring your food donations starting next weekend (Nov. 3rd & 4th) and place them on the tables located at the back of the church. Since potatoes can spoil, please do not bring those until Nov. 10th or 11th. You may deposit your monetary donations in the Sunday collection basket. We are requesting donations of the following: • boxed stuffing mix • canned vegetables (corn, green beans and cranberries) • canned or packaged turkey gravy mix (no glass containers
please) • cake mix and frosting • 5-pound bags of white potatoes or sweet potatoes (bring
Nov. 10th & 11th )
THANK YOU for your generosity. Peace & Justice Ministry
