Dear Friends,

We come together today on this Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time to worship God, who “makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” In our first reading, the prophet Isaiah wrote of the transformative power of God. God will open the eyes of the blind and the ears of the deaf. God will allow the lame to dance and the mute to sing. God will remake the world as well, bringing life-giving water to the barren desert. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus displays this transformative power and tender mercy in his healing of a deaf man. The witnesses to this act cannot help but proclaim Christ’s power and compassion. Let us live this week as we encountered this same power and compassion in the reception of Holy Communion which heals and guides us these days!

On Monday of this week we will begin the traditional PREP program with a prayer service in church at 5 PM. After this prayer, our students and parents will have an opportunity to meet their teachers and receive the materials for the coming year. Today after the 9AM Mass, our Family Catechesis Program will begin with the PREP parents assembling to be instructed on the monthly materials (which they will teach their children) while their children will be with their teachers for this time. How exciting it is to begin again our discovery of Christ by learning of his great love and sacrificial grace he pours out to us each day. How blessed we are as a parish to be able to offer such diverse opportunities for teaching our children about the ways of faith. I am deeply indebted to Mrs. Heeney, our Director of Religious Education and her Administrative Assistant, Mrs. O’Neil, as well as to our catechists, instructors and volunteers who assist with the various components of a vibrant PREP program. How blessed we are, indeed!

Next weekend we will begin our annual celebration of Forty Hours. This is a special time of grace and prayer for the entire community. We are happy to welcome Father Anthony Hangholt, the parochial vicar of St. Philip Parish in Lafayette Hills, as our guest homilist. I heard Father preach last year and he is an inspiring homilist. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will begin at the conclusion of the 11AM Mass next weekend and will conclude with the Solemn Evening Prayer and Procession on Tuesday evening, September 18th. Each evening we will celebrate Evening Prayer beginning at 7PM. PLEASE, make this time a priority for you and your family. Sign up in the narthex to spend some time with the Lord. We cannot leave the Blessed Sacrament without someone to watch and pray with him. Also, next Monday, September 17th is the Feast of Saint Robert Bellarmine, our parish patron. Make it a special priority that day to pray for his intercession on our behalf as a family of faith gathered under his protection.

Just a reminder that tomorrow (Monday, September 10th) we will resume our regular daily Mass schedule. Mass will be celebrated in the chapel Monday through Friday at 7AM and 9AM and on Saturdays at 9AM. This is a perfect way to begin each day, maybe you can join us one day each week? We would love to see you!

May the week hold for all of you God’s choicest blessings!

With prayers,

The Twenty-third Sunday In

JUST A THOUGHT: “The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.” As we start a new school year together, we may all focus on the work expected of our children. Will they work hard in school? Will they make new friends and keep old friendships? Will they grow in their faith? Will they challenge themselves – or rise to challenges given them? This might also be a time for all of us to challenge ourselves to grow – learn!

The manna bag collection of non-perishable food items held in July was our most generous effort to date. There were 150 bags totaling 1751 lbs of food, almost double last years total. The Coordinating council is very grateful for all of your kindness and generosity. It will support the food cupboard through the lean summer months. The teen ministry is grateful for your support and for giving us a good mornings work of service, separating, dating and stacking all of the donations. God bless you!

FORTY HOURS DEVOTION September 16-18, 2018

Guest Homilist for all three evenings— Rev. Anthony Hangholt

Parochial Vicar of St. Philip Neri Parish in Lafayette Hill

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament begins at the close of the 11:00 Mass

on Sunday, September 16.

Perpetual Adoration will continue over the three days ending with a Eucharistic Procession.

Evening prayer will begin each evening at 7:00 PM.

A few insights on the Eucharist from the Presence Series:

God Is With Us — God becoming man in the person of Jesus Christ (Incarnation) is the

culmination of God’s plan to be present to his people. He continues to accompany us on the

journey of this life, to be united with us, and he accomplishes this through the Eucharist.

The Story of the Eucharist — The Eucharist was prefigured in the Old Testament

(the Passover Feast, God providing manna for his people in the wilderness, etc.) as well as in

Jesus’ miracles and teaching.

Give yourself an opportunity to explore this beautiful story of the Eucharist, this life giving mystery — the source and summit

of our faith. Just go to the formed.org and enter the St. Robert’s parish code: 46KPWV and register OR go to

www.saintrobertwarrington.formed.org and register.

Adoration sign-up sheets will be in the Narthex starting next weekend. Please plan to spend a half hour or an hour with Our Lord..

St. Robert’s Day - Saturday, October 13

8 am - 4 pm The visible, public centerpiece of 40 Days for Life is a focused, 40-day prayer vigil outside a single Planned Parenthood center or other abortion facility in your community. It is a peaceful and educational presence. Those who are called to stand witness during these 40 days send a powerful message to the community about the tragic reality of abortion. It also serves as a call to repentance for those who work at the abortion center and those who patronize the facility. At least two persons (more are welcome) are needed to cover our 9 hours on Oct. 13. Please make the call to sign up to cover an hour. Call Jan @ 215/343-4572 to schedule a time to come, pray and witness.

Monday Exposition/Divine Mercy Chaplet Come join us at 3:00PM every Monday during the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Jesus, speaking to St. Faustina, forcefully speaks to us about the great mercy He has for us. From the diary of St. Faustina; I heard these words in my soul: Say unceasingly the chaplet that I have taught you. Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy. I desire that the whole world know My infinite mercy. I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy (Diary, 687). Pamphlets will be available in the chapel to help you along with the prayers that are said using a Rosary. You may keep it for your personal use.

Music Ministry Information

The Music Ministry provides joy, comfort, inspiration, and musical prayer for our liturgies and various Parish celebrations. This is possible due to the generous sharing of time and talents of our committed members. Our Adult Choir rehearsals begin on Wednesday Sept 12th at 7pm in the Church. If you can carry a tune and want to learn, please come and join us!

Children in grades 4-8 are welcome to join our Children’ Choir. Rehearsals are on the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the month from 10am – 10:45am in Church. We will sing for the 11am Mass on the 3rd Sunday of each month through May. The first rehearsal will be Sunday Sept 9 at 10am. However, due to the 40 Hours schedule in September, our first Mass for this choir will be October 21st . If your children enjoy music, this is a wonderful way to have them participate in Mass with their peers. It is also an opportunity for service to their community as the choir has sung at nursing homes, our various

Parish celebrations, and even at the Channel 6 studios for the televised Mass.

We are also planning to bring back the Epiphany Teen Group! Further information will follow as soon as the details are complete.

If you have any questions about the Music Ministry, please contact Elaine Johnson at

[email protected] or 215-918-0283.
