VOLUME 1, ISSUE 5 MAY, 2017 PARISH NEWSLETTER

St. Rita of Cascia - May 22

W hen St. Rita of Cascia’s husband was murdered, her two sons avowed to avenge his death. St. Rita

prayed that they would die rather than commit murder. She got her wish. The boys contracted a fatal

illness and died before they were able to act.

St. Rita got exactly what she prayed for, but fortunately for most of us, God gives us what we need, not what

we think we want. Because we have limited insight and vision, we ask for what appears best at the time.

God, on the other hand, sees what is best for eternity.

Let’s say you interview for a job you really want. It’s with a good company and has great benefits. You

storm the gates of heaven, begging that you get the position. Then the letter comes: Thank you for your

interest, but….You naturally feel disappointed and angry. Didn’t God let you have the job? Maybe the job

wouldn’t have lasted. Maybe God wants you to change careers. Maybe there would have been temptations

that would have proven disastrous to your spiritual development if you had been given the position.

We probably will never know the answers to our questions, but at times like these, all we can do is trust that

God has other plans in mind, plans that are always in our best interest.

The next time you don’t get what you pray for, give thanks for having been protected from misjudgment and

give thanks for the blessings you know will come.

Has there ever been a time that not getting what you wanted

turned out to be a blessing in disguise?

* * * * * ** * *

I BELIEVE THAT GOD KNOWS WHAT IS BEST FOR ME.

VOCATION INTERCESSION FOR MAY

That Mary’s example of care for others and faith in God may inspire many women and

men to serve the Church and help heal the world, we pray to the Lord.

Minute Meditation

Mary completes the waiting hope of the women of the Old Testament, and she guides us on our own path as we

find, not only who we are in Jesus, but all the possibilities of who we can be if we allow him to draw near to us and

transform us with grace and mercy. ~Franciscan Media

Left to right: Brad, Anthony, his head chef, Lisa and Fr. Lou Mattina.

Brad Kalthoff, the manager and proprietor of Outback Steakhouse in Greenbrook,

donated and cooked the dinner for the April Fishes and Loaves Café. The menu was

chopped steak, smothered in mushrooms and onions, smashed potatoes, vegetable,

salad and their delicious rye breads. There were cheeseburgers available for the

children.

Lisa Couch from FISH presented him with a certificate of Appreciation.

O heart of Jesus in the

Most Blessed Sacrament,

burning with love for us,

inflame our hearts with

love for thee.

This is a very special day for Our Lady of Fatima Parish. On behalf of Father Da Silva, we extend our love, support, and prayers to the following children who received the Sacrament of Eucharist on Saturday, May 6, 2017.

Gracious and Loving God, When your Spirit descended upon the apostles at Pentecost, they spoke the

language of those who came to hear their testimony.

They proclaimed a new covenant in Christ Jesus, sanctified by His blood, bound for the Holy Spirit, and

sealed in the waters of baptism.

We give you thanks and praise for releasing your Spirit upon us; and in our time pray that it will break

through the many barriers that divide nations and people.

Let your Spirit open our eyes as a communion of faith to your ongoing presence among us, so we can

recognize you when we serve one another.

Let your Spirit open our minds so that we may gain wisdom to work together for reconciliation and

peace, and unite our talents to build a better world.

Let your Spirit open our hearts so that together we can live more fully in Christ, shine His light of mercy

and love and prepare for the day of his glorious return.

We pray this through your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God

forever and ever, Amen.
