Work Day—Saturday, August 5th, 7:30am til 2:30pm—This is a joint effort to bring the parish and school together

for a workday — Bring your tools: hammer, screwdriver, saw, gloves, & yard tools or other equipment you need and let’s go to work! There’s a lot to be done before school and Faith Formation begin! So if you’re not on vacation or out of town on August 5th, please consider pitching in and helping—you can earn service hours too! Things planned to do: working on kneelers in the church, clean all the flower beds in front of the school and PLC, clean around the new storage bldg. and behind Maintenance garage, remove overgrowth from fences, possibly tear down the old festival garage (if we get enough help). To Volunteer: Pick up a blue form from the brochure rack fill it out and turn in today.

Loving and Generous God, it is You who call us by name and ask us to follow You.

Help us to grow in the Love and Service of our Church as we experience it today.

Give us the energy and courage of Your Spirit to shape its future

Grant us faith-filled leaders who will embrace Christ's Mission of love and justice.

Bless the Church of St. Pius V by raising up dedicated and generous leaders from our families and friends who will serve Your people as Sisters, Priests,

Brothers, Deacons and Lay Ministers.

Inspire us to know You better and open our hearts to hear Your call, as seminarian Joseph Blackburn has done.

17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Find the Missal (Ordinary of the Mass) at 150 in Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song First Reading 1 Kgs 3:5, 7-12 T

The LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night. God said, "Ask something of me and I will give it to you." Solomon

answered: "O LORD, my God, you have made me, your servant, king to succeed my father David; but I am a mere youth, not

knowing at all how to act. I serve you in the midst of the people whom you have chosen, a people so vast that it cannot be

numbered or counted. Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart to judge your people and to distinguish right from

wrong. For who is able to govern this vast people of yours?" The LORD was pleased that Solomon made this request. So God said

to him: "Because you have asked for this— not for a long life for yourself, nor for riches, nor for the life of your enemies, but for

understanding so that you may know what is right— I do as you requested. I give you a heart so wise and understanding that there

has never been anyone like you up to now, and after you there will come no one to equal you."

Responsorial Psalm Ps 119 R. Lord, I love your commands.

Second Reading Rom 8:28-30

Brothers and sisters: We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. For

those he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, so that he might be the firstborn among many

brothers and sisters. And those he predestined he also called; and those he called he also justified; and those he justified he also

glorified

Gospel Mt 13:44-52

Jesus said to his disciples: "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and

out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine

pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net

thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into

buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from

the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. "Do you understand all

these things?" They answered, "Yes." And he replied, "Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like

the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old."

y no sé cómo actuar.

que me has pedido. Te voy a conceder,

Salmo Responsorial Salmo 118 R. Yo amo, Señor, tus mandamientos.

Segunda lectura Rom 8, 28-30

Evangelio Mt 13, 44-52

St. Pius V Catholic Church July 30, 2017

Dear brothers and sisters,

In the gospel today we hear of the one who searches, the one who is not really looking but finds, and the one who, without realizing it, is

simply drawn in. All of us here, clergy and lay, can find ourselves in this gospel. Some of us have experienced all three situations in the

course of our lives. Perhaps we were brought into the faith as children, not fully understanding what it was that we were receiving. If so,

perhaps there was a period where we went searching before realizing that, like Dorothy of Kansas, the treasure was right in front of us.

Perhaps there was a moment when we received, in the scripture or the words or writings of a holy person, an inspiration, “the revelation

of light”, which set our hearts afire with unquenchable desire. However we came to recognize the treasure that is more precious than

“thousands of pieces of gold and silver”, it was by the grace of God who calls us “according to His purpose”.

If we recognize this treasure which, by the working of the Holy Spirit resides within the Body of Christ, the Church, we will give of our-

selves to possess it, to have it for ourselves and for our children. The gospels for the past few weeks have spoken to us of this in the par-

ables of the Sower and the Seed and the Wheat and the Weeds. This is what we have been talking about in the parish for these past few

weeks as we call for your participation in the Ignite Campaign and in DSF. It is what we have been talking about when you are asked to

come forward as catechists or to join in a day of work.

“All good things come to those who love the Lord.” He will grant the prayer of our hearts as he did the prayer of Solomon. He places

the treasure before us. Let us seize, not the day, but eternity.

O Lord, “let your compassion come to us that we may live.”

Fr. Joe

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Queridos hermanos y hermanas,
En el evangelio de hoy oímos hablar de quien busca el tesoro, el que no lo busca pero si lo encuentra, y tambien el que sin darse cuenta es
atraído. Todos nosotros aquí, clericós y laicos, podemos encontrarnos en este evangelio. Algunos de nosotros hemos experimentado estas
tres situaciones en el transcurso de nuestras vidas. Quizás fuimos traídos a la fe como niños, sin entender completamente que era lo que
estábamos recibiendo. Si es así, tal vez hubo un período en el que fuimos a buscar antes de darnos cuenta de que, al igual que Dorothy de
Kansas, el tesoro estaba justo en frente de nosotros. Tal vez hubo un momento en que recibimos, en santa escritura o en las palabras o
escritos de una persona santa, una inspiración, "la revelación de la luz", que conviertio nuestros corazones en llamas con un deseo inex-
tinguible. De cualquier manera llegamos a reconocer el tesoro más precioso “que miles de monedas de oro y plata y que fue por la gracia
de Dios que nos llama "según Su designio salvador.".
Si reconocemos este tesoro que, por obra del Espíritu Santo, reside dentro del Cuerpo de Cristo, que es la Iglesia, daremos de nosotros
mismos para poseerlo, para tenerlo para nosotros y para nuestros hijos. Los evangelios de las últimas semanas nos han hablado de esto en
las parábolas del Sembrador y la Semilla y el Trigo y la Cizaña. Esto es de lo que hemos estado hablando en la parroquia durante estas
últimas semanas pidiendo su participación en la Campaña Enciende y en DSF. Es de lo que hemos estado hablando cuando se les pide
que se presenten como catequistas o se unan en un día de trabajo o que piensen en la escuela de la parroquia para sus niños.
" Todo contribuye para el bien de los que aman a Dios". Él concederá la oración de nuestros corazones como lo hizo con la oración de
Salomón. Él pone el tesoro ante nosotros. Aprovechemos, no solo el día, sino toda la eternidad.
Oh Señor, " Muéstranos tu ternura y viviremos". P.Joe
Living Our Faith… Parish Social Ministry Jesus said that the reign of heaven is like a buried treasure and a fine pearl. Those who find it sell all they have to attain it. Wow! What a
hard thing to hear! How many of us have heard this and put it aside because we don’t think that Jesus really meant it or that the only
people that can follow this are very special people, saints! We work so hard for what we have and Jesus tells us that we should sell
everything to attain it. The basic question is: where is my priority? Am I spending all my time and energy on getting all the new toys and
all the advancements we can make at work? Am I forgetting my family? Am I ignoring my neighbor’s needs? Perhaps a good social
ministry prayer is: Lord, what do I let go and still fulfill my responsibilities? Open my eyes that I may see you in the face of my brothers
and sisters, open my ears that I may hear the cry of the poor, and open my heart that I may love you over anything else in my life.
Viviendo nuestra fe…. Pastoral Social Parroquial Jesús dijo que el reino del cielo es como un tesoro enterrado y una perla fina. Los que lo encuentran venden todo lo que tienen para
alcanzarlo. ¡Aayy! ¡Qué cosa tan difícil de oír! ¡Cuántos de nosotros hemos oído esto y lo hemos puesto a un lado porque no pensamos
que Jesús realmente lo quiso decir o que las únicas personas que pueden seguir esto son personas muy especiales, santos! Trabajamos
duro por lo que tenemos y Jesús nos dice que debemos vender todo para lograr el Reino. La pregunta básica es: ¿Cuál es mi prioridad?
¿Estoy gastando todo mi tiempo y energía en conseguir todos los juguetes nuevos y todos los avances que podemos hacer en el trabajo?
¿Me estoy olvidando de mi familia? ¿Estoy ignorando las necesidades de mi vecino? Tal vez una buena oración del ministerio social es:
Señor, ¿qué dejo ir y aún cumplir mis responsabilidades? Abre mis ojos para que te vea en la cara de mis hermanos y hermanas, abre mis
vendrán este año para aprender más de Jesus y de la fe católica. Ud. puede ayudarles a aprender y a crecer llegando a ser un catequista;
por supuesto, Ud. aprenderá más acerca de su propia fe. Ofrecemos entrenamiento, materiales, y el apoyo de un catequista experimentado.
Pray that catechists come forward to serve our children for 2017-2018: O God, our Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of cate-
chists to be heralds of the Gospel to our parish family. … We pray that our parish family will always be blessed with those who have
answered the call to share in Christ’s prophetic mission as catechists. May we too be open to the universal call to service that Christ ad-
dresses to all of his disciples… We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Favor de orar para que catequistas lleguen a servir a nuestros hijos en el año 2017-2018: Oh Dios, nuestro Padre Celestial, nos has
dado el don de los catequistas para ser anunciadores del Evangelio a nuestra familia parroquial. … Oramos para que nuestra familia
parroquial sea siempre bendecida con aquellos que han respondido a la llamada a participar en la misión profética de Cristo como cate-
quistas. Que también seamos abiertos al llamado universal al servicio que Cristo dirige a todos sus discípulos… Lo pedimos en el
nombre de Jesús. Amén.
The Parish & School, along with St. Joseph Workers & St. Fiacre
Gardeners, is invited to
Come & help on Saturday, August 5th—7:30am — 2:30pm This is a joint effort to bring the parish and school together for a workday — Bring your tools: hammer, screwdriver, saw, gloves, & yard tools or other equipment you need and let’s go to work! There’s a lot to be done before school and Faith Formation begin! So if you’re not on vacation or out of town on August 5th, please consider pitching in and help-ing—you can earn service hours too! Things planned to do: working on kneelers in the church, clean all the flower beds in front of the school and PLC, clean around the new stor-age bldg. and behind Maintenance garage, remove overgrowth from fences, possibly tear down the old festival garage (if we get enough help). (If you have any questions, call Alice at 713-473-9484) Yes I would like to help on August 5th: Name ____________________________________________________________________ Phone ____________________________________________________________________ How many people coming_____________
The Parish & School, along with St. Joseph Workers & St. Fiacre
Gardeners, is invited to
Come & help on Saturday, August 5th—7:30am — 2:30pm Este es un esfuerzo conjunto para reunir a la parroquia y la escuela durante un día de trabajo - Traiga sus
herramientas: martillo, destornillador, sierra, guantes, herramientas de patio u otro equipo que necesita y
vamos a trabajar! ¡Hay mucho por hacer antes de que la escuela y la Formación de Fe empiecen! Así que si
usted no está de vacaciones o fuera de la ciudad el 5 de agosto, por favor, considere lanzar y ayudar-usted
puede ganar horas de servicio también! Cosas planeadas para hacer: limpiar todos los macizos de flores en
frente de la escuela y PLC, limpio alrededor del nuevo edificio de almacenamiento. Y detrás del garaje de
mantenimiento, quitar el crecimiento excesivo de las cercas, posiblemente derribar el garaje del festival de
edad (si tenemos suficiente ayuda).
