Questions of the Week
Fourth Sunday of Advent
Theme: Jesus is identified as Lord before he is born.
Step One: Listen to the Word
As you hear this reading, what words or phrases strike you? What
in this reading touches your heart? What lingers in your memory?
Step Two: Look into Your Life
Question for Children: How does the Blessed Virgin Mary help
you to follow Jesus?
Question for Youth: When have you experienced the presence
of the Holy Spirit?
Question for Adults: What role does Mary play in your own
spirituality? If you were Elizabeth, how would you greet her at
your doorway, if she were to arrive there?
Virgen María a seguir a Jesús?

Dear Friends,
Many, many thanks to all who made our Festival in honor our
Lady of Guadalupe a success. I had fun and looking around it
seemed that everyone else was having fun, as well. The food was
wonderful and our dancers were magnificent. And at the end,
some lucky people went home with presents for under the tree.
Special thanks must go to our Pastoral Council and especially to
the sub-committee which organized all of this: Arturo Gonzalez,
Jr. (our Council Chair), Gabriella Puente (our vice Chair),
Salvador Juarez, Rosalba Lopez, Grabiel Gonzales, Francisca
Santos, and Beatriz Amezquita. Thanks to all of the individuals
and groups which gave of their time and talents, especially, SINE,
Grupo de Oracion, y Movimiento Familiar Cristiano. Thanks to all
of you who supported the Festival and the parish through your
purchase of raffle tickets and your presence.
All of our thanks to Our Blessed Mother, the Virgin of Guadalupe.
I am sure that it was through her intercession that the rain held off
despite the dire forecasts.
In a week or two, we will have the final accounting for the
Festival, but I can tell you now that it was a financial success and
helped in a significant way to improve our finances.
Our thanks as well to the Knights of Columbus Msgr. A.L.
Connell Council 3700 for their generous donation of $500.00 to
the works of the Parish.
May each night this week be a Holy Night for you.
Fr. Joe

Queridos amigos,
Me divertí
Gabriel Gonzales, Francisca Santos y Beatriz Amezquita.

The Fourth Sunday of Advent – The Scriptures of this last Sunday of Advent turn our attention to the approaching birth of the
promised Messiah (Gospel, 1st Reading), and the humility and obedience that will characterize his life (2nd Reading). Like last
week’s call to joy, this long-awaited fulfillment of redemption – God’s greatest mercy towards fallen humankind! – brightens
these dark days of December even more. Have a blessed Advent! – For daily prayer and reflections for this week, go to “Advent”
on the parish website (http://www.stpiusvchurch.com/advent).
www.stpiusvchurch.com/advent).

Find the Missal (Ordinary of the Mass) at 150 in Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song
First Reading Mi 5:1-4a
Thus says the LORD: You, Bethlehem-Ephrathah too small to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for
me one who is to be ruler in Israel; whose origin is from of old, from ancient times. Therefore the Lord will give them up,
until the time when she who is to give birth has borne, and the rest of his kindred shall return to the children of Israel. He
shall stand firm and shepherd his flock by the strength of the LORD, in the majestic name of the LORD, his God; and they
shall remain, for now his greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth; he shall be peace.
Responsorial Psalm Ps 80 R. Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.
Second Reading Heb 10:5-10
Brothers and sisters: When Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you
prepared for me; in holocausts and sin offerings you took no delight. Then I said, ‘As is written of me in the scroll, behold, I
come to do your will, O God.’“ First he says, “Sacrifices and offerings, holocausts and sin offerings, you neither desired
nor delighted in.” These are offered according to the law. Then he says, “Behold, I come to do your will.” He takes away
the first to establish the second. By this “will,” we have been consecrated through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ
once for all.
Gospel Lk 1:39-45 Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of
Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth,
filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of
your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound
of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed are you who believed that what was
spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”
El Misal (Ordinario de la Misa) esta en Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song a Partir de 150
Primera lectura Miq 5, 1-4a
saludó a Isabel.
