Creo, o ….no creo
Llega a esto …o creemos que Jesús es el pan de vida, que Él es quien da vida, que unión con Él es vida eterna. O lo creemos, o no creemos. El gran discurse de Jesús en el Evangelio de Juan llega al momento de decidir, una decisión que separa los que creen en Jesús (discípulos) y los demás (los que echaron para atrás). Jesús
separa a los discípulos creyentes de la mul tud incrédulo. Ahora los Doce ene que hacer su profesión de fe, que Jesús no es sólo el Santo de Dios (el Mesías), sino que Él es también quien comunica “vida eterna”. Para nosotros esto es la Eucaris a, el sacramento donde las palabras de Jesús son “espíritu y verdad”. Cada de las lecturas de este domingo sencillamente piden que como discípulos, lo que hacemos (sea lo que sea) ene que ser lo que profesamos ser, cualquiera nuestro es lo de vida, ser lo que decimos somos. En esta manera los seguidores de Jesús actuarán como Él, y el mundo lo verá a Él caminando en el mundo en ellos.

I do believe, or I don’t believe That’s what it comes down to … either we believe that Jesus is the bread of life, that He is the one who gives life, that union with him is eternal life ….or, we don’t. The progression of the great discourse of Jesus in John comes down to a decision that separates those who believe in him (his disciples) and the others (those who stepped back). Jesus separates his believing disciples from the crowd that is incredulous. Now the Twelve are to make their confession of faith, that Jesus is not only the “Holy One of God” (the Messiah), but he is also the one whose words communicate “eternal life”. For us, this is the Eucharist, the sacrament where the words of Jesus are “spirit and truth”. Each of our readings this Sunday is asking simply that whatever we do as disciples, we must be who we profess to be, and in whatever lifestyle we live, be who we say we are. In this way, followers of Jesus will act life Jesus, and he will be seen again walking the earth through them.

serviremos al Señor". (JOSUÉ 24:15)
Cuando nos comprometemos a servir al Señor, debemos estar dispuestos a ser socios en la obra del
eñor. Un socio es una persona que invierte tiempo en oración todos los días, participa con alegría en obras de caridad y apoya generosamente a la parroquia y la misión de la Iglesia. Si decimos que servimos a Dios,
¡debemos realmente hacer algo y no solamente hablar sobre eso!
21st Sunday in Ordinary Time “If it does not please you to serve the Lord, decide today whom you will serve…As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (J 24:15)
When we commit to serve the Lord, we must be
willing to become a partner in the work of the Lord. A partner is a person who invests time in prayer every
day, joyfully participates in charitable works and generously supports the parish and Church mission.
If we say we serve God, we must actually do something and not merely talk about it!

Development Corner By: Bill Noel Do you know what is happening on Wednesday August 29th? That is the date of our parish annual meeting, in Verbeten Hall beginning at 6:00 pm (refer to additional information on page 7 of today’s bulletin). Besides some delicious food, you should plan to be there to be “in the know” on what is happening at St. Philip! Fr. Bill will lead a discussion, including details regarding a very generous bequest that we received in May 2018.
Did you know our new “hearing loop” also works in Verbeten Hall? This will be an opportunity to try it out!
If you have mobility challenges and would like assistance with using our elevator and wheelchair lift, contact the parish office at 920-468-7848, or call me on my cell phone at 920-680-0681.

Además de cenar juntos queremos que estén al día con lo que está pasando en San Felipe. Padre Bill va a guiarnos en la conversación que incluye detalles sobre una donación muy generosa que recibimos este mayo pasado.

Now that our parish picnic/fiesta is behind us, it is time to begin the
planning for our winter fundraiser, Christmas at Riverside !
Our 1st meeting will be
Monday, August 27 at 4:15 pm in the St. Philip Center.
Join us as we discuss our winter
Christmas party—all are welcome. (You will not have to chair a committee by
attending this first meeting-bring suggestions!)
Just a note to let you know… There is a “harvest table” in the
church vestibule for seasonal fruits/vegetables.
BRING what you have extra from your garden, and feel free
to TAKE what you can use! Bags for produce are available
on the table...God is good!
HEALING YOUR GRIEVING HEART GROUP:
This group meets on Thursdays, 6:30-8:00 pm at Resurrection Parish, 333 Hilltop Dr., Green Bay,
beginning September 20th. This is a 5-week session, with no fee to register. Open to all parishes—we are an
ecumenical support group sponsored by Resurrection and St. Matthew Parishes.

dedicated to voting for the position of Trustee-Secretary. Lucy Bunker is completing her two-year term and has agreed to place her name for re-election,
and Christina Rodriguez has agreed to place her name on the ballot.
Additional nominations made be made in writing; the amended corporate by-
laws regarding trustee elections are available on the diocesan website and
on our parish website.

mile Friends of the Poor Walk on Monday, Sept. 3 (Labor Day) to raise awareness of those living in poverty in our community.

• Walk to Hinterland Brewery-10-11 am • To register: www.stvinnyshelps.org • This walk is dog friendly. There will be water,
snacks, and a commemorative t-shirt in addition to fun, friends, and family! All monies raised help those in need in the Green Bay community.
