Parents of children to be baptized must attend two classes of prepara-tion. Godparents need only attend the first class. Godparents must be practicing Catholics who have received Confirmation. The classes take place on the 3rd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 7:30 pm in English in the Old Church. If you do not live in this parish, you must obtain a letter of permission from your own parish to baptize your child at St. Peter Chanel. The Priest, a Steward of the Mysteries of God. By Fr. Francis Fernandez Carvajal
Jesus selects the Apostles, not only as messengers, proph-ets and witnesses, but also as his own representatives.
This new identity, to act in persona Christi, must be ex-pressed in a life which is simple and austere, a holiness which inspires a wholehearted dedication to the welfare of others. The Gospel of today’s Mas tells us that Jesus sent his disciples and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He told them to take a staff for their journey, but nothing else: no bread, no haversack, and no money in their wallets.
God takes possession of the man he calls to the priesthood and consecrates him to the service of his fellow men, and bestows upon him a new personality. And once he has been chosen and consecrated to the service of God and others he is not just a priest at certain moments only, for example while he is carrying out sacred functions. He is a priest always and at every moment, whether he is performing the highest and most sublime office or the most vulgar and humble action of his ordinary life. Just as a Christian can-not leave aside the fact that he is a new man, that Baptism has given him a particular character, and act ’as if’ he were just a man purely and simply, neither can the priest leave aside his priestly character and behave ‘as if’ he were not a priest. Whatever he does, whatever attitude he adopts, whether he likes it or not, it will always be the ac-tion or the attitude of a priest, because he is a priest al-ways and at all times down to the very depths of his being, whatever he may do or whatever he may think.
The priest is a messenger of God to the world, sent to an-nounce to mankind its salvation, and is constituted a stew-ard of the mysteries of God. These mysteries include the Body and Blood of Christ, which he offers the faithful at Mass and Holy Communion; the grace of God in the sacra-ments; and the divine word which he utters in preaching, in catechesis and in confession. To the priest has been confid-ed the most divine of divine works, the salvation of souls. He has been made an ambassador and a mediator between God and men.
It warms my heart to think of the quiet man and supernatu-ral dignity of those brothers of mine, scattered throughout the world. It is only right that they should now feel them-selves surrounded by the friendship, help and affection of many Christians. And when the moment comes for them to enter God’s presence, Jesus will go out to meet them. He will glorify forever those who have acted on earth in his Person and in his name. He will shower them with that grace of which they have been ministers.
Let us meditate now in the presence of God on how well we pray for priests, how we treat them, how grateful we ought to be to them for having responded positively to our Lord’s call, how to help them persevere and be saints. Let us ask God our Lord to give all of us priests the grace to perform holy things in a holy way, to reflect in every aspect of our lives the wonders of the greatness of God.
Flower of Carmel
The Flos Carmeli is a Carmelite hymn and prayer. Flos Carmeli is Latin for “Flower of Carmel” and was first used as the sequence for the Feast of St. Simon Stock. Be-ginning in 1663, it became the se-quence for the Feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel. It is said to have been written by St. Simon Stock himself (ca. 1165 – 1265). The prayer is taken from the first two stanzas of
the sequence.
Oral tradition tells of St. Simon Stock praying with a pas-sionate intensity to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel during a time of great distress and hardship for the Order. With fervor and faith, he prayed for the first time the Flos Car-meli prayer which he wrote. And Our Lady answered that prayer. Thus, for seven centuries the Flos Carmeli con-tinues to be prayed to the Blessed Mother with the firm faith that she will answer its request with her powerful help.
The prayer below is from the first two verses of the long-er sequence.
Flos Carmeli Prayer
O beautiful Flower of Carmel, most fruitful vine, Splendor of Heaven, holy and singular,
who brought forth the Son of God, still ever remaining a Pure Virgin,
assist me in this necessity. O Star of the sea, help and protect me!
Show me that Thou art my Mother. O Mary, conceived without sin,
pray for us who have recourse to Thee! Mother and Beauty of Carmel, Pray for us!
Virgin, Flower of Carmel, Pray for us! Patroness of all who wear the Scapular, Pray for us!
Hope of all who die wearing the Scapular, Pray for us! St. Joseph, Friend of the Sacred Heart, Pray for us!
St. Joseph, Chaste Spouse of Mary, Pray for us! St. Joseph, Our Patron, Pray for us!
O sweet Heart of Mary, Be our salvation! Amen.

I would like to thank everyone who made my anniversary celebrations joyous and memorable: Oblate brothers, choirs, servers, floral arrangers, those who prepared the wonderful meals and decorated, those who attended and prayed with me, all those who gave spiritual bouquets, so generous, and monetary offerings. Everything was beau-tiful, and made me very happy to be a priest, and to be serving the people of St. Peter Chanel Parish. I thank you in my prayers and Masses. God bless the People of God whom I serve!

Esta nueva identidad –actuar in persona Christi– se ha de manifestar en una vida sencilla y austera, santa; debe mostrarse en una entrega sin límites a los demás. El Evangelio de la Misa nos relata que Jesús los envió dán-doles autoridad sobre los espíritus inmundos. Les encar-gó que llevaran para el camino un bastón y nada más: ni pan, ni alforja, ni dinero en la faja...
Dios toma posesión del que ha llamado al sacerdocio, lo consagra para el servicio de los demás hombres, sus her-manos, y le confiere una nueva personalidad. Y este hom-bre elegido y consagrado al servicio de Dios y de los de-más, no lo es solo en determinadas ocasiones, por ejem-plo, cuando está realizando una función sagrada, sino que «lo es siempre, en todos los momentos, lo mismo al ejer-cer el oficio más alto y sublime como en el acto más vul-gar y humilde de la vida cotidiana. Exactamente lo mis-mo que un cristiano no puede dejar a un lado su carácter de hombre nuevo, recibido en el Bautismo, para actuar “como si fuese” un simple hombre, tampoco el sacerdote puede hacer abstracción de su carácter sacerdotal para comportarse “como si” no fuera sacerdote. Cualquier co-sa que haga, cualquier actitud que tome, quiéralo o no, será siempre la acción y la actitud de un sacerdote, por-que él lo es siempre, a todas horas y hasta la raíz de su ser, haga lo que haga y piense lo que pensare».
El sacerdote es un enviado de Dios al mundo para que le hable de su salvación, y es constituido administrador de los tesoros de Dios: el Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo, que dispensa en la Misa y en la Comunión; y la gracia de Dios de los sacramentos, la palabra divina, mediante la predicación, la catequesis, los consejos de la Confesión. Al sacerdote le es confiada «la más divina de las obras divinas», como es la salvación de las almas; ha sido cons-tituido embajador y mediador entre Dios y el hombre.
«Saboreo la dignidad de la finura humana y sobrenatural de estos hermanos míos, esparcidos por toda la tierra. Ya ahora es de justicia que se vean rodeados por la amistad, la ayuda y el cariño de muchos cristianos. Y cuando lle-gue el momento de presentarse ante Dios, Jesucristo irá a su encuentro, para glorificar eternamente a quienes, en el tiempo, actuaron en su nombre y en su Persona, derra-mando con generosidad la gracia de la que eran adminis-tradores».
Meditemos hoy junto al Señor cómo es nuestra oración por los sacerdotes, con qué finura los tratamos, cómo les agradecemos que hayan querido corresponder a la llama-da del Señor, cómo les ayudamos para que sean fieles y santos. Pidamos hoy «a Dios Nuestro Señor que nos dé a todos los sacerdotes la gracia de realizar santamente las cosas santas, de reflejar, también en nuestra vida, las ma-ravillas de las grandezas del Señor».
Flor del Carmelo
El Flos Carmeli es un himno Carmeli-ta y oración. Flos Carmeli en latín sig-nifica "Flor del Carmelo" y fue utiliza-da por primera vez como la secuencia para la Fiesta de San Simón Stock. A partir de 1663, se convirtió en la se-cuencia de la fiesta de Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmelo. Se dice que fue escrito por el mismo San Simón Stock (ca. 1165-1265). La oración se toma de las dos primeras estrofas de la se-cuencia.
La tradición oral cuenta de San Simón Stock rezando con una intensidad apasionada a Nuestra Señora del Monte Car-melo durante un momento de gran angustia y de dificultades para la Orden. Con fervor y fe, oró por primera vez la ora-ción Flos Carmeli que escribió. Y Nuestra Señora contestó esa oración. Por lo tanto, durante siete siglos el Flos Carme-li sigue siendo rezado a la Virgen con la firme fe de que ella va a responder a la solicitud con su poderosa ayuda.

¡Oh Bellísima Flor del Carmelo, Fructífera Viña, Resplandor del Cielo, Madre Singular del Hijo de Dios,
Virgen Siempre Pura! Madre Santísima, después de habernos traído el Hijo de
Dios, permanecisteis intacta y sin mancha ninguna. ¡Oh Bienaventurada Siempre Virgen,

¡Oh María, sin pecado concebido, rogad por nosotros que recurrimos a vos!

To-do fue muy hermoso, y me hizo muy feliz de ser un sacer-dote, y de servir al pueblo de la Parroquia de San Pedro Chanel. Did You Know? Help children be aware of unhealthy behavior among others
Children have more opportunities to be out of your immediate sight during the summer. It’s important to remind your child that if anoth-er child or adult – including people they know and trust – try to touch them inappropriately they should: Say NO and GET AWAY from any person or situation that makes them feel scared, uncomfort-able or confused. Tell them to TRUST THEIR FEELINGS and be sure to TELL a trusted adult. And it’s never too late to tell a trusted adult what happened. Holy Hour for Persecuted Christians
There will be a bilingual Holy Hour led by Fr. Larry Darnell, OMV. Every Tuesday night, 8:00 – 9:00 pm in the Main Church. The Holy Hour will include: 1)A bilingual rosary accompanied by meditation reading. 2)A bilingual meditation on present-day Christian martyrs martyr-dom in general, or on the Passion of Christ. 3)Benediction and blessing to conclude the Holy Hour.

Tendremos una hora Santa (bilingüe) para rezar por los Cristianos perseguidos, dirigida por el P. Larry Darnell, OMV. Todos son bienvenidos.

Altar Servers' Meeting
Our monthly altar servers' meeting from now on will normally be on the third Saturday of the month. This month's meeting is Saturday, July 18 at 4:00 in the old church. For August there will be a retreat with Fr. Jer-emy Paulin and Fr. Craig, Wednesday to Friday morn-ings, Aug. 12-14. This will take the place of the Servers' Meeting for August. Fr. Craig looks forward to seeing you on July 18; new servers are welcome!
Reunión de Monaguillos
Nuestra reunión de monaguillos desde ahora en ade-lante será cada tercer sábado del mes. La reunión de este mes tomara lugar este sábado, 18 de julio a las 4:00 pm en la iglesia antigua. Habrá un retiro con el P. Jeremy Paulin y el P. Craig el 12 a 14 de agosto (miércoles a viernes por la mañana). Esto tomará el lugar de la reunión de los Servidores en agosto. El P. Craig cuenta con su presencia el 18 de julio; ¡nuevos servidores son bienvenidos!
