Parents of children to be baptized must attend two classes of prepara-tion. Godparents need only attend the first class. Godparents must be practicing Catholics who have received Confirmation. The classes take place on the 3rd and 4th Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm in English in the St. Joseph Building, room 102. If you do not live in this parish, you must obtain a letter of permission from your own parish to baptize your child at St. Peter Chanel. Freedom, a Gift from God by St. Josemaria Escriva
We have learned with gratitude, because it makes us realize the happiness we are being called to, that all creatures have been created out of nothing by God and for God: both men, who are rational creatures, alt-hough we so often act unreasonably, and the irrational beings who roam the surface of the earth, or burrow in its inmost recesses, or sail the azure skies — some soaring so high that they come face to face with the sun. But in all this wonderful variety, it is only we men (I am not referring now to the angels) who can unite ourselves to the Creator by using our freedom. We are in a position to give him, or deny him, the glo-ry that is his due as the Author of everything that ex-ists. This possibility makes up the light and shade of hu-man freedom. Our Lord invites us, urges us to choose the good, so tenderly does he love us! ‘See, today I set before you a choice between life and death, good and evil. If you pay heed to the commandments of Yah-weh your God which I command you this day, by lov-ing Yahweh your God, by walking in his ways and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his ordinances, then you shall live... Choose life, that you may live.’ Ask yourself now (I too am examining my con-science) whether you are holding firmly and unshaka-bly to your choice of Life? When you hear the most lovable voice of God urging you on to holiness, do you freely answer 'Yes'? Let us turn our gaze once more to Jesus, as he speaks to the people in the towns and countryside of Palestine. He doesn't want to force himself upon us. 'If you have a mind to be per-fect...', he says to the rich young man. The young man refused to take the hint, and the Gospel goes on to say: abiit tristis, he went away forlorn. That is why I have sometimes called him the 'sad lad'. He lost his happi-ness because he refused to hand over his freedom to God. (Excerpt from Friends of God, 24)

Altar Servers’ Meeting
We had a wonderful celebration of the Easter Triduum—thanks also to you, Servers! You assisted at many Baptisms and Confirmations, as well as other parts of the intricate Liturgies. Now we’re back on schedule our meeting on the third Saturday of the month: April 21 at 4:00 pm. I’m looking forward to seeing the older servers and well as the younger ones. Let us continue to deepen our knowledge and love of the Mass. ~Fr. Craig
Prayer to the Holy Spirit for the Church
O Holy Spirit, Creator, propitiously help the Catholic Church, and by Thy heavenly power strengthen and confirm it against the
assaults of the enemy; by Thy charity and grace renew the spirit of Thy servants whom Thou hast anointed , that in Thee they may glorify the Father and His only-begotten Son , Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
It Is Sure To Come Look at your fellow human beings; what befalls them. Some of them fall dead on the streets; some are found dead in their beds; some have their lives suddenly crushed out; some are cut off in their occu-pations; some die in agonizing pains; some go forth in the morning and return not in the evening; some die in the midst of mirth and laughter; some meet violent death at the hands of others; some die at their meals, away from home, separated from friends, and many die in their sins. Nearly all are called when they least expect it. Consider these stern facts and you will not easily sin. “It is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgment”. Death is sure to come. Con agradecimiento, porque percibimos la felicidad a que estamos llamados, hemos aprendido que las criaturas todas han sido sacadas de la nada por Dios y para Dios: las racionales, los hombres, aunque con tanta frecuencia perdamos la razón; y las irraciona-les, las que corretean por la superficie de la tierra, o habitan en las entrañas del mundo, o cruzan el azul del cielo, algunas hasta mirar de hito en hito al sol. Pero, en medio de esta maravillosa variedad, sólo nosotros, los hombres —no hablo aquí de los ánge-les— nos unimos al Creador por el ejercicio de nues-tra libertad: podemos rendir o negar al Señor la glo-ria que le corresponde como Autor de todo lo que existe. Esa posibilidad compone el claroscuro de la libertad humana. El Señor nos invita, nos impulsa —¡porque nos ama entrañablemente!— a escoger el bien. Fíja-te, hoy pongo ante ti la vida con el bien, la muerte con el mal. Si oyes el precepto de Yavé, tu Dios, que hoy te mando, de amar a Yavé, tu Dios, de seguir sus caminos y de guardar sus mandamientos, decretos y preceptos, vivirás... Escoge la vida, para que vivas. ¿Quieres tú pensar —yo también hago mi examen— si mantienes inmutable y firme tu elección de Vida? ¿Si al oír esa voz de Dios, amabilísima, que te esti-mula a la santidad, respondes libremente que sí? Volvamos la mirada a nuestro Jesús, cuando hablaba a las gentes por las ciudades y los campos de Palesti-na. No pretende imponerse. Si quieres ser perfecto..., dice al joven rico. Aquel muchacho rechazó la insi-nuación, y cuenta el Evangelio que abiit tristis, que se retiró entristecido. Oración al Espíritu Santo para la Iglesia
Oh Espíritu Santo, Creador, ayuda propi-ciamente a la Iglesia Católica y, por Tu poder celestial, fortalécela y confírmala
contra los asaltos del enemigo; por Tu caridad y gra-cia, renueva el espíritu de Tus siervos a quienes has ungido, para que en Ti glorifiquen al Padre y a Su Hijo unigénito, Jesucristo, Nuestro Señor. Amén.
Está seguro de venir Mira lo que les sucede a tus compañeros humanos. Algunos caen muertos en las calles; algunos se en-cuentran muertos en sus camas; algunos tienen sus vidas repentinamente aplastadas; algunos están aisla-dos en sus ocupaciones; algunos mueren en dolores agonizantes; algunos salen por la mañana y regresan no por la tarde; algunos mueren en medio de la alegría y la risa; algunos enfrentan muertes violentas a manos de otros; algunos mueren en sus comidas, lejos de ca-sa, separados de sus amigos, y muchos mueren en sus pecados.
